D.02-4329-7122.BIn the winter of 1910,Dr.Wu Lien-Teh stepped off a train in the northern Chinese city of Harbin. He was there to solve a medical mystery,at great personal risk.Over the past few months,an unknown disease had swept along the railways of northeast China, killing 99.9% of its victims. The Qing Imperial court had sent the Cambridge-educated Dr.Wu north to stop the epidemic. When Dr.Wu arrived in Harbin on Christmas Eve,1910,he carried little in the way of medical instruments and had only one assistant. One of Wu’s first acts upon arrival was to set up special quarantine(隔离) units and to order lockdowns to stop infected persons from traveling and spreading the disease. He had teams check households for possible cases, and even managed to convince authorities to completely close the railways in the early weeks of 1911.Of particular concern was the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, which had become a great annual migration of people traveling across the country to see their families. Thanks to Dr.Wu’s efforts, the number of plague victims began to die down, and by March 1,1911,the epidemic was fully contained. The pneumonic (肺炎的) plague outbreak of 1910-1911 lasted nearly four months, affected five provinces and six major cities, and accounted for over 60,000 deaths. It is clear that without the brave and decisive actions taken by Dr.Wu,it could have been much worse.Had the epidemic gone unchecked, allowing holiday rail passengers to spread the disease to the rest of China could have meant a catastrophic loss of life and possibly a global health crisis. In April 1911,Dr.Wu chaired an International Plague Conference in Shenyang, attended by scientists from 11 countries including the United States,Great Britain,Russia,Japan and France. They praised Dr.Wu for his handling of the 1910-1911 outbreak. For a time,Dr.Wu was the world’s most famous plague fighter,a title be defended in a malaria epidemic in China in 1919,and a return of plague in 1920.4.What was Dr.Wu’s mission in 1910?A.To take personal risk.B.To end an epidemic.C.To provide medical education.D.To investigate the number of victims.5.Which of Dr.Wu’s acts stopped the disease from spreading nationwide?A.Setting up special quarantine units around the country.B.Treating infected persons with his medical instruments.C.Checking households himself for possible cases.D.Convincing authorities to close the railways.6.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?A.The disease worsened after March 1,1911.B.60,000 people would have died without Dr.Wu’s efforts.C.A global health crisis followed the 1910-1911 outbreak.D.The plague broke out again about 10 years later.7.What can be the best title of the text?A.A Plague FighterB.A Global Health CrisisC.The Beginning of the Chinese Public Health SystemD.A Plague OutbreakCChocolates, syrup(糖浆),cream on top, many of the hot drinks we consume even more at this time of year certainly sound sugary, but just how much sugar they contain might come as a shock. The health campaign group Action on Sugar has found that Starbucks hot chocolate made with milk has almost 94 grams of sugar. That equals 23 teaspoons. At Caffe Nero, the salted hot chocolate packs in almost 60 grams of sugar, about 15 teaspoons. And Casta’s cream latte(拿铁) has 32 grams of sugar, that’s 8 teaspoons. The drink makers won’t have those details listed next to the price. If known,it would be quite alarming. That’s how capitalism works. The capitalists have to get people addicted to certain things to keep selling it more.If told the amount of sugar contained, many would take hot drinks just as a treat not on a daily basis. Some drinks have actually reduced in sugar over the past few years, but many more haven’t.The most sugary seasonal drink was from Starbucks with more than 14 teaspoons of sugar.Other companies like breakfast cereal manufacturers and yogurt manufacturers are reducing sugar. And so are soft drinks, yet the milk based drinks, milk shakes, hot chocolates and lattes just don’t seem to have changed in the same way.And while some companies are actually being really responsible for reducing their sugar, some have actually increased that in the last two years which just seems ridiculous.Coffee chains do offer low-calorie alternatives, but Action on Sugar are still calling for more tax on hot coffee drinks. Not much of a Christmas present for the coffee chains, but maybe a gift in the long term for our health.8.What does the first two paragraphs mainly talk about?A.Consumers favor sugar contained hot drinks.B.The amount of sugar in some hot drinks is frightening.C.Famous hot drink makers prefer hot chocolate series.D.Cream latte is the signature hot drink for Starbucks.9.What can we learn about hot drink makers?A.Most of them are trying to reduce sugar in certain drinks.B.Chocolate and syrup are irreplaceable parts of their products.C.They won’t show consumers how much sugar a drink contains.D.Four of them have been investigated by the health campaign group.10.What’s the writer’s attitude toward the hot drink makers?A.Supportive. B.Doubtful.C.Objective. D.Reserved.11.How can the sugar-originated hot drink problem be eased?A.Taxes can be raised on hot drink makers like coffee chains.B.More official groups like Action on Sugar could be founded.C.Sugar content can be labeled in place of the price for hot drinks.D.Warnings can be given to those enjoying weekly hot drinks.DIs there a link between social media and depression? Do Facebook and Instagram have a negative impact on your mental health? It’s complicated.Sometimes, looking through Instagram just makes you feel bad.You try not to envy your friends, but they always seem to be traveling somewhere cool, eating something fancy,or looking cute in perfect just-rolled-out-of-bed hair.On the other hand, there are times when you laugh at funny memes (表情包),catch up with old friends, and feel happy to belong to fun social media communities.Clearly, social media isn’t all bad.People are increasingly suspect that there’re the potential problems of social media.Things like cyberbullying, screen addiction, and being exposed to endless filtered images (美颜) that make it impossible not to make comparisons between yourself and others often make the news.In July,a big study came out in the journal JAMA titled “Association of Screen Time and Depression in Adolescence.” This big headline seems to confirm what a lot of people have been saying—screen time is horrible for young people. The study followed over 3,800 adolescents over four years as part of a drug and alcohol prevention program.Part of what the investigators measured was the teens’ amount of screen time, including time spent on social media,as well as their levels of depression symptoms. One of their main findings was that higher amounts of social media use were associated with higher levels of depression. That was true both when the researches compared between people and compared each person against their own mental health over time.Case closed? Not so fast. Before we end the debate once and for all, let’s take a closer look at this and other studies.Let’s ask ourselves: what exactly is the relationship between social media use and depression? It turns out there are several warnings.12.Why do people sometimes feel bad when looking through Instagram?A.They feel unbalanced.B.They can travel nowhere.C.They don’t look perfect.D.They lack contact with old friends.13.Why is the article in journal JAMA mentioned?A.To comment. B.To suggest.C.To prove. D.To explore.14.Which may agree with the findings of the study?A.Teens’ amount of screen time is limited.B.Depression is related to social media use.C.It is not easy to tell reasons for depression.D.Social media use contributes to mental health.15.What’s the best title of the text?A.How to reduce depression?B.Shall people reduce screen time?C.Do social media cause depression?D.Why is it time to give up social media?第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。How to live a happy life? No,but we’ll do better,” I said.“I’ll ask Jesus to get us food today.” My words sounded brave even to myself. She shook her head and went to work.I had planted a garden in our backyard. The lettuce (莴苣) and peas were up,but nothing was ready to eat.I looked through the kitchen and discovered Mom was right. We only had cereal (麦片) for our breakfast. While my sister and brother played,I prayed and tidied the house.I was washing our front-room window when a cheery man in a blue shirt came over and rang the doorbell.Although I’d never seen him before, his big smile made me trust him. When I opened the door,he asked “Have you heard about the new grocery store a mile from here? Today is its grand opening.”I nodded.I’d seen their signs as I rode past on the school bus.“They’re giving away gift coupons (礼券) to celebrate.” He pulled three white cards from his shirt pocket and handed them to me.“The first is for a huge loaf of bread, the second is for a gallon of milk, and the third lets you choose a half-gallon of your favorite flavor of ice cream.”注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。Paragraph 1: I stared.“Really?
