在复合句中，修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫作定语从句。被定语从句修饰的词叫作先行词。定语从句必须放在先行词之后。连接先行词和从句的词叫作关系词。Eg: The man(先行词) wh(关系词) is standing under the tree(定语从句） is my uncle. I still remember the night(先行词) when(关系词) I first came t the village.
关系词用来引导定语从句，在先行词和定语从句之间起纽带作用，用来连接先行词和定语从句。 同时关系词又在定语从句中充当某一成分，关系词可以在从句中作主语、宾语、定语或状语。1. 作主语Eg: I dn’t like peple wh talk much but d little.2. 作宾语Eg: She is the persn that I met n the street yesterday.3. 作定语Eg: The girl whse father is a teacher studies very hard.4. 作状语Eg: This is the huse where I was brn.
1. 当先行词是人时，关系词可用（that/wh/whm/whse),其中that/wh在从句中可以做主语、宾语；whm在从句中只能作宾语；whse在从句中可作定语。2. 当先行词是物时，关系词可用(that/which/whse),其中that/which在从句中可作主语和宾语;whse在从句中可作定语。3. 当先行词指时间时，关系词常用when，在从句中作时间状语。4. 当先行词指地点时，关系词常用where,在从句中作地点状语。
1. 只能用that，不能用wh/which的情况： (1) 先行词是all, few, little, nthing, everything, anything等不定代词时： Eg: Tm tld his mther all that had happened. (2) 先行词被nly, n, any, all等词修饰时： Eg: This is the nly bk that I can find. (3) 先行词是序数词或被序数词修饰的词时： Eg: He was the secnd persn that tld me the secret. (4) 先行词被形容词最高级修饰的词时： Eg: This is the best bk that I have ever read. (5) 先行词既有人又有物时： Eg: He talked abut the peple and the things that he remembered.
2. 只能用which，不能用that的情况： (1) 在非限制性定语从句中： Eg: The meeting was put ff, which was exactly what we wanted. (2) 定语从句由“介词+关系代词”引导且先行词是物时： Eg: The thing abut which he is talking is f great imprtance.
