I was sitting at my kitchen table the other day with a pen, notebook, calculator and a pile of bills. I was doing my monthly budget. There were bills for electric water, rent, insurance, the car payment, the phone bill, and the cable bill. Plus money needed to be set aside for food, gas, clothes and hopefully a little left over to save for those unexpected bills that always seemed to show up. When I was done, I shook my head, closed my eyes and thought of a time long ago when I would regularly get treasures.
When I was a boy, we lived across the road from Camp Caesar. It held week long camps all through the summer and my grandma who I lovingly called “Nanny” worked in her big kitchen. I remember slipping there getting a smile, a hug, a kiss and a hot roll from Nanny. Then she would always take deep in her pockets and pull out a treasure, a shiny quarter. She would give it to me and I would run down the hill to either get an ice cold can of coke from the pop machine or I would head to the camp’s swimming pool where I could buy a warm cup of cherry coke for 15 cents and a tiny 10 cent bag of chips from a stand. I took my time because it was always a big decision. It was nice too feeling so rich for a few minutes.
Looking back now I can see that the real treasure was not the quarter at all. It was the love with which Nanny gave it to me. I would have still visited her at work every day if I had never gotten a single quarter. It was her smile, hugs, and kisses that were priceless in my heart then and now.
The old saying is true, “With your work you can make a living, but it is with your love that you make a life.” You can always welcome love into your heart, soul and mind. And you can always share your love with others. It is that one treasure that lasts forever.
24.According to Paragraph 1, what was the author trying to figure out?
A.Where to get treasures. B.What food and supplies to buy.
C.How to sort out these bills at hand. D.How to balance the money available.
25.What does the underlined word “roll” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A kind of bread B.A kind of act.
C.A sound. D.A greeting.
26.Which of the following best describes Nanny?
A.Considerate. B.Generous.
C.Affectionate. D.Enthusiastic.
27.Why does the author mention the old saying in the last Paragraph?
A.To change people’s heart and soul.
B.To show what we should value in life.
C.To explain work and love can make a life.
D.To advise more love and sharing in childhood.

Climate change is changing the migration routes of animals worldwide. Take the mule deer for example. Every spring in Wyoming, green-up first appears at lower altitudes before progressing up the mountainside. Migrating mule deer follow and seek food on this green wave. But as a changing climate leads to more frequent and more severe droughts, the greenery is not as abundant as it used to be.
Ellen Aikens, a researcher from the University of Wyoming, tracked mule deer as they surfed the green wave. In comparison to wet years, the green-up lasted across the landscape for about half as long in drought years and was also fragmented. Although the deer were able to keep up with the faster green wave, the nutritional value was lower, leaving the animals less prepared for the challenges of the year ahead.
Meanwhile in Europe, the population of Bewick’s swans that spend the winter in the Netherlands is declining. But when researchers looked at the data more closely, they found an increase in the wintering population of swans in Germany. It turns out that since the 1970s, the swans’ wintering habitat has shifted an average of 13 kilometers to the east each year.
“The swans like to spend time where it’s 5℃. And the temperature line has shifted in the same rate as the swans shifted eastward,” said Rascha Nuijten, an ecologist at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology.
These findings are important to our understanding of the conservation of migrant animals. When it comes to protecting a certain species, it’s not just about the current situation. Nature is dynamic. And the species that is present now might not be present in 10 years, not because we didn’t protect it but because maybe it is dynamic in its way. We need to include the dynamics of nature into our legislation and management.
28.What’s the challenge the mule deer face?
A.Wet years. B.Low altitudes. C.Fast green wave. D.Lack of quality food.
29.What do we know about Bewick’s swans from Paragraph 3?
A.They are endangered.
B.They used to spend winter in Germany.
C.They move their wintering habitats eastward.
D.Germany has more of them than the Netherlands.
30.What does Rascha Nuijten intend to tell us?
A.Its warmer in the east.
B.The 5℃ line shifts at a fast rate.
C.The swans move with the temperature line.
D.Climate change affects the swans’ feeding habits.
31.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce two research findings.
B.To appeal to protect animals in a dynamic way.
C.To discuss methods of fighting climate change.
D.To explain why animals change their migration routes.

Experts note that an unhealthy lifestyle can put you at great risk of heart disease and stroke. So doctors urge us to eat healthy foods, get exercise, stop smoking and limit our alcohol intake. But there is something else you can do. And it is free and easy. Smile!
Dr. Chockalingam, a heart disease specialist in Columbia, advises his patients to smile. He says a smile may be one way to help your heart. "When we smile, the brain wiring changes. The chemicals that are released are more positive." He says smiling is the first step in fighting physical and emotional stress and its sometimes harmful effects on human health. This is not just New Age advice. Several studies support his opinion.
When you feel stressed or under pressure, your body releases many natural hormones (荷尔蒙) including adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline increases your heart rate and blood pressure. Cortisol is the body's main stress hormone. It increases sugar in the bloodstream. If you are truly in danger, these hormones can help you. They are part of what we call our fight-or-flight response.
However, when we are stressed for a long period, these stress hormones are ever-present in our bodies. And that, medical researchers warn, may lead to health problems.
Researchers say the connection between stress and heart disease is still unclear. However, they claim that when people are stressed for long periods of time, they may have an unhealthy lifestyle, which can lead to health problems.
Dr. Chockalingam says a smile may be one way to help. He tells his patients to smile 20 times an hour. To some, that might seem like a lot of smiling. Or some might even feel foolish ... smiling for seemingly no reason. But a smile does not involve drugs. It is not invasive like a surgical operation. It is free and it has no bad side effects.
"Once people smile, they are relaxing. This relaxation directly lowers blood pressure, improves sugar levels in the blood. If we are smiling, we are breaking that link between stress and health." And it just may provide a little extra protection to everyone's heart health.
32. Which of the following agrees with Dr. Chockalingam's opinion?
A.Smile has the same effects as laughter.
B.Smile can be used to take the place of medicine.
C.Smile is better than any healthy lifestyle to health.
D.Smile can make our body produce beneficial chemicals.
33. What can we know about the mentioned stress hormones?
A.They can lower our blood pressure.
B.They will surely lead to heart diseases.
C.They can benefit us when we are in danger.
D.They will make us live an unhealthy lifestyle.
34. Why does Dr. Chockalingam think smiling is helpful to our health?
A.It can make us relax. B.It increases sugar levels.
C.It has little bad side effects. D.It can happen for no reason.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A.A Thorough Analysis of the Causes of Heart Diseases
B.One Thing You Can Do Right Now to Help Your Heart
C.One Thing That Is Closely Connected with Stress Hormones
D.The Clear Connection Between Unhealthy Lifestyles and Heart Diseases
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Tips for Keeping Awake in Class
If you want to keep awake during class, sleep the night before your class. Students who doze(打瞌睡)in class often missed sleep the night before. Getting enough sleep is your first line of defense when it comes to staying awake in class.36. For most people, eight hours of sleep is enough to get through the day, but your body may require more.
37. This will train your body to know when it needs to be asleep and when it is time to wake up. Allow yourself time to relax before heading to bed by putting away your phone, homework, and other things that keep your mind active. Getting enough high-quality sleep can help you.
Another way is to take a shower before class. 38. The warm water from your shower raises your body temperature. This also increases your heart rate so your blood travels around your body faster. Finally, it helps deliver oxygen to your important organs so your body can work at the best level of efficiency.
39. When your body is exposed to cold water, your blood will flow at a higher pressure, meaning that your circulation(循环)is even further increased. The cold water will also help wake you up because it will shock your body, forcing you to breathe more deeply.40. And thus you will be more mentally sharp.
A.Having a warm meal also works.
B.This will increase your oxygen intake.
C.Perform a series of movements before sleep.
D.This helps you feel refreshed and awakens your senses.
E. For some extra energy, finish your shower with cold water.
F. Make sure to get some shut-eye if you have a class the next day.
G. Keep a regular sleep schedule by going to bed at the same time each night.

书面表达:
Dear Chris,
I’m really worried about your present situation where you’ve been addicted to webcast in summer holidays and always spend a lot of time watching programs in various kinds of live studios. My opinions are as follows.
Undeniably, webcast is quite popular among young people, for it makes online shopping more convenient and leisure time colorful. However, there exist some potential risks if we have excessive viewing of it. Initially, it will do harm to our health, which may cause short-sightedness. Besides, excessive viewing takes up too much time and energy which should be put into study.
Thus, never should we be an addict to webcast, wasting too much precious time on it. It’s wiser to set aside some time to accompany parents or do something more meaningful.
Best wishes!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
