If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that you can't just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say"Hi", and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word "communication" in a dictionary, it would say"the exchange of ideas, the conveyance(表达) of information, correspondence, means of communication: a letter or a message". To maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse.
This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, not when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the incident go. Communication is the key factor here. If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie's, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication.56. In the writer's view, dealing with parents is _____ than with children.A. more difficult B. easier
C. more uninteresting D. more interesting57. The main idea of the second paragraph is _____.A. the importance of friendship
B. to make your feeling known to others
C. the importance of communicationD. the disagreement between generations58. When parents and children are in communication, the key to a happy relationship is that _____.A. children should always obey their parents B. they should be equal
C. parents play the leading part D. neither of them know the feelings of each other.59. The example in this passage proves that _____.A. Sophie's parents are willing to listen to her
B. Sophie is very polite to her parents
C. Sophie did well in explaining her being late
D. communication is the solution to misunderstanding60. All the following statements are correct except "_____".A. If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know
B. It is better to say "Hi" to others than say nothing
C. If you are not able to communicate, walk away
D. Communication is a two-way dealCKids are natural scientists. That may be why they ask so many questions.Younger kids take up science and math with amazing enthusiasm, yet as they get older they often lose their excitement. Children look on scientific exploration as play, but as they get older they start to connect it with big heavy books, long worksheets and a lot of really confusing words. What a tragedy! We had their attention, they were listening, they were participating, they were learning and then we lost it to boredom. We need our kids to play more. More play brings up basic scientific concept.Being familiar with basic scientific concepts brings about exploration which leads to research. Once they are researching, they are completely into the learning. My boys built a small 9hole golf course next to our driveway one day. It was a great product of science. They dug out the holes and channels to guide the golf ball. They played with architecture with a series of pipes they had found in the garage. They tested speed and momentum(动量)by creating one of the holes across the driveway. They experienced biology when deciding which front yard plants could be used as a part of the course and which needed to be pulled up.If I had sent them out to the yard to build a 9hole golf course,it would have never happened. It was because it was their idea that it worked. I try to tell them some of the concepts after the fact. When they ask about something,I try to relate it back to something they have built, experienced,or felt. I try to give them a vocabulary around what they already know.An afternoon can change the way kids look at the world. Not bad for a day of play.61.What can we learn about kids' attitudes towards science from the first three paragraphs?A. Kids think they are born to work as scientists.B. Younger kids begin to learn science on purpose.C. Older kids often link science with boring things.D. Children's taking an interest in science is a tragedy.62. In what order does children’s play develop into learning according to the writer ?A. Play--Doing exploration-Making serious scientific research - Getting familiar with basic scientific concept.B. Play-Doing exploration--Getting familiar with basic scientific concepts - Making serious scientific research.C. Play-Getting familiar with basic scientific concepts -- Doing exploration - Making serious scientific research.D.Play-Making serious scientific research-Getting familiar with basic scientific concepts- Doing exploration.63.By building the small golf course, the writer's boys learnt about all of the following things EXCEPT____.A. speed B. momentum C. biology D. agriculture64. If the writer had forced the boys to build a small golf course, they might have _______.A. asked her some related scientific conceptsB. made a better golf course than the one they had builtC. asked their friends to help them with the workD. got bored and refused to follow the writer's directions65. In which part of a newspaper is the article probably included?A. Architecture. B. Education. C. Health. D. As a senior analyst, my workdays were routinely twelve to sixteen hours long. Like all the old soldiers, we looked forward to receiving mails from home.We soldiers received many “To any service member” mails from the States. Those mails were sent by the general public in our mother country to soldiers far away from home, as an expression of support. I never took any of those letters, since I wrote to my wife on a daily basis, as well as occasionally writing notes to my daughter Jenny’s classroom, and I didn’t feel I had time to write to anyone else. After five or fix months of hearing from the mail—announcing the availability of “To any service member” mail, I decided to take a few of the letters. Because I planned, as time permitted, to drop them a line telling them “Thanks” for their support.I picked up three letters, and placed them in my cargo pocket and went back to work. Over the next week or so, I started responding to the letters. When it came time to answer the third letter, I noticed it had no return address, but a California postmark, which made me think of home. I had missed spending Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s with my family. Homesickness seized me.I opened the card and started to read the letter attached, which was a short one. About the third or fourth sentence down, it read, “My daddy is a soldier over there, if you see him tell him hi and I love and miss him.” This statement really touched me and made me miss my family even more. Looking down to the name of the sender, I sat in silence as tears filled my eyes.Who will usually write “To any service member” mails?
