The Best and Worst Things to Buy in March
Frozen food
Grocery store ads aren’t the only places to find deals on freezer-section treats. To take advantage of the deepest discounts, combine coupons (优惠券) from sponsoring brands, such as Dole, Green Giant and Tyson Foods, with grocery store sales. Plus, look for printable savings on Coupons. com and EasyHomeMeals.com. Brands participating in National Frozen Food Month will offer more than 180, 000 coupons that make frozen food among the best things to buy in March.
Boxed chocolates
If you desire to give a gift to a friend in March, consider chocolate. Two minor holidays in March provide the perfect excuse: National Chocolate Caramel Day on March 19 and National Chocolate-Covered Raisin Day on March 24. You can discover chocolate deals online as well as in stores. Head to sites like RetailMeNot.com to find discount coupons for boxed chocolate savings of 10 percent or more.
New cars
With the latest car models filling dealers’ lots, you’ll have a hard time finding discounted models from the year before. Car dealerships are less motivated to offer steep discounts from March through May. Instead, plan to buy your car during the fall or winter. You should also research the auto you want at TrueCar before heading for the dealership. The site offers information on what people in your area paid for vehicles equipped with the options you want.
Spring clothing
When warm weather makes you want to head outdoors, resist the urge to do so wearing the latest fashions. You won’t find March deals on swimsuits, Easter dresses or other spring items. To find discounts on clothes of this spring, hold off until Memorial Day weekend. You can also look for online and in- store savings at Amazon, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and other retailers.

My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window?”
Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher may have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.
“Oh,”I thought. I was the one who broke the window. It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? I didn’t even get an allowance. “My father is going to have a fit.”I thought. I didn’t want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I was pulled it skyward. I told the truth. “I did it.”It was hard enough to say what I had.
My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me.
“I know how you like bird,”she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden face. “Here is that field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It’s time we got a new one for the school anyway. You will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed, I am rewarding you for your truthfulness.”
I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide---the very one that I had been saving up money to buy.
All that remains of that day is my memory and the lesson my teacher taught me. That lesson stays with me every day, and it will echo forever.
4. From the story, we can learn that the boy _____.
A. didn’t break the window on purpose B. lacked the strength to admit his guilt
C. tried to think about what he had done D. didn’t know what the teacher would find out
5. If the boy admitted guilt, he thought he would NOT ______.
A. be punished by the teacher B. make his father angry
C pay for the broken window D. get a bird field guide
6. Which of the following best describes the changes in the boy’s feelings?
A. Afraid--Surprised--Thankful B. Frightened--Amazed--Proud
C. Regretful--Guilty--Excited D. Nervous--Afraid--Satisfied
7. What is the lesson the boy’s teacher taught him?
A. Every coin has two sides B. Honesty is always valued
C. Bad luck never comes alone D. It’s never too late to be careful
C
If you want to be a volunteer, you have to answer the following typical questions. Do you want to work with people, animals or machines? Do you want to work indoors or outdoors, directly serve people in need or serve people behind the scenes? Every year, thousands of people in the west offer volunteer service. Volunteering greatly strengthens the community because it helps the old, the young, the weak, the sick, and the disabled and the injured to solve problems.
Volunteers usually help in many different ways. They may give people advice, offer friendship to the young, drive the elderly to church (if up to the driving age), advise kids against drugs(毒品), work as assistants in schools or nursing homes, raise funds, plant trees, help out in local libraries and do many other things. Volunteering can be a few hours a week or a few hours a month. Anybody who wants to serve people in need can become a volunteer.
In fact, the art of volunteering is a process(过程) of both giving and receiving. Volunteering allows volunteers to meet new people, make new friends and mix with people from all walks of life. Volunteering is an excellent way to experiment and try out new techniques and skills, discover your individual(个人的) talents and explore career choice. Being a volunteer will take you on a wonderful journey and help you learn more than what you can get from books.
8. As a volunteer, only when you grow old enough can you _______.
A. plant trees on hills B. give advice to others
C. drive the elderly to church D. help out in local libraries
9. How is the second paragraph mainly developed?

C. By giving explanations. D. By listing examples.
10. It can be inferred from the passage that to be a volunteer, _______.
A. you can do experiments B. you can get something valuable
C. you need to work very long D. you must be very strong
11. What’s the best title of the passage?

Cheating(作弊) can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.
Many people like the action of cheating. In their opinion, it makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test---unless the person cheats again.
Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they shouldn’t get that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.
Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.
If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school. A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.
12. The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, ______.
A. it is unfair to other people. B. it does harm to their health.
C. teachers should punish them. D. teachers shouldn’t stop them at once.
13. Many people like cheating because they think ______.
A. the material in the test is very difficult. B. they want to do better than the others.
C. cheating can make hard things seem very easy. D. they have little time to study their lessons.
14. The fourth paragraph mainly tells us ______.
A. some kids can’t pass the test without cheating B why kids cheat in the test.
C. cheating isn’t a good idea. D. some kids don’t spend the time studying.
15. We can learn from the passage _______.
A. cheaters are often thought highly of
B. people show no respect for those who cheat.
C. parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble.
D. kids cheat in the test because of swim practice.

书面表达 (满分20分)
Aiming to raise our awareness of protecting school environment, a tree-planting activity with the theme of “Green School, We Are in Action” was organized by the Students’ Union on Saturday afternoon last week.
At 2:00 p.m., the students and teachers from different grades actively participated in it, some digging, some planting and others watering. During the activity, 1000 new trees were planted along the main road in our school as planned. Looking at the lines of young trees, tired as they were, they smiled delightedly.
This activity provided us a good platform for communication between teachers and students. It also enabled us to contribute to building a beautiful and green school together and planting hope.
