My dad was one who never knew a stranger. He was a farmer in the Midwest and he spent his winters selling insurance and daily necessities. Daddy could really talk with anyone and his favorite thing was to find out their incomes. Once we were at Chicago's O'Hare Airport — this was when you could still be escorted to your boarding gate. Daddy was sitting with me as I waited for my flight to Fort Lauderdale. A Russian guy sat down next to daddy. The gentleman could not speak a word of English but this did not stop my dad. He found out his business, how many children he had and, of course, how much he made.
I used to feel embarrassed by this. Last year, I was home visiting with my husband and my twins. When I was in the car with my mom, she told me a story about how she was in the doctor's office with daddy and how he was talking to the others in the waiting room as usual. She said he started talking to a young man in a wheel chair who couldn't talk, couldn't move his arms or head, and really couldn't do anything. But daddy was asking questions getting the young man to smile in response. And he carried on like that with the disabled man till he was called back to the doctor's office.
When the young man and his father got up to see the doctor, the father of the young man came and shook my dad's hand and said,“Thank you for speaking to my son. Most people just turn away when they see him.”
My father ended up dying later that month because of a sudden heart attack. Fortunately all 9 of his children had been home that summer to visit. I told this story about his love of talking at the funeral.

All animals play. Running and rolling are ways for them to have fun. But it also seems to be how they communicate and strengthen bonds with each other.
When a dog comes up to another dog, front legs bowed or his tail high or wagging, his friend knows he wants to play. But new research shows that this play behavior is surprisingly similar when horses and dogs play.
“Up to now, most studies have focused on dog-human play due to the important implications that such studies have in understanding the special relationship we establish with our pets,” researchers from Italy wrote in the journal Behavioural Processes. “Here, we focused on social play between dogs and horses.”
To study communication among different species, Elisabetta Palagi and her colleagues from the University of Pisa found 20 YouTube videos of dogs and horses playing where their interactions(互动)lasted at least 30 seconds. They analyzed the videos, looking for specific patterns of play.
They found that while playing, both dogs and horses often had relaxed, open mouths, which is a common playful facial expression in animals. Some also copied each others' movements, like pretending to bite, playing with an object, or rolling on their backs on the ground. The team also found that the dogs and horses copied each other's facial expressions. This behavior, called rapid facial mimicry, has been seen before in dogs and sun bears, points out National Geographic. But it has never been documented between animals of different species.
“A 2000-pound horse can play with a relatively tiny dog because the two are able to communicate their intentions. It's an important study because it shows how two animals who look and behave so differently can manage to discuss how to play in a way that's comfortable for both,” Barbara Smuts, a behavioral ecologist at the University of Michigan, told National Geographic.

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei officially launched the 2.0 version of its self-developed operating system (OS) on Wednesday night, the HarmonyOS. The move paved the way for the Chinese firm to challenge Google's and Apple's role in current and future OS ecosystems.
Among the major advantages, the HarmonyOS, with a highly scalable(可扩展的)distributed platform, can be applied to multiple devices, including smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices, the company said.
Analysts said the OS will do a lot to promote Huawei's transformation into being a software service provider. Huawei's founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that the company was focusing on software because future development in the field was fundamentally “outside of US control and we will have greater independence and autonomy(自主权)”. Ren called on the company's staff to “dare to lead the world” in software.
“The success of a software system will always have to rely on hardware(硬件), but currently, Huawei doesn't have enough hardware to support its software ambitions — that's the most difficult part,” said Jiang Junmu, chief writer at a news website. Once as the world's largest smartphone maker, Huawei's domestic smartphone market share has continued to drop in recent months. Liang Zhenpeng, an industry analyst, said that as an OS aimed for the Internet of Things(IoT) era, the HarmonyOS may need more time and equipment to test than the OS for smartphones, and that will take at least two to three years.
Moreover, Liang noted that an ecosystem will always be the decisive factor for the success of an operating system. “Does the HarmonyOS have enough applications that can attract consumers to update to the OS? That's a question,” Liang said. So far, more than 300 application and service partners, 1000 hardware partners, and 500,000 developers have participated in the construction of the Harmony ecosystem.

My dad was one who never knew a stranger. He was a farmer in the Midwest and he spent his winters selling insurance and daily necessities. Daddy could really talk with anyone and his favorite thing was to find out their incomes. Once we were at Chicago's O'Hare Airport — this was when you could still be escorted to your boarding gate. Daddy was sitting with me as I waited for my flight to Fort Lauderdale. A Russian guy sat down next to daddy. The gentleman could not speak a word of English but this did not stop my dad. He found out his business, how many children he had and, of course, how much he made.
I used to feel embarrassed by this. Last year, I was home visiting with my husband and my twins. When I was in the car with my mom, she told me a story about how she was in the doctor's office with daddy and how he was talking to the others in the waiting room as usual. She said he started talking to a young man in a wheel chair who couldn't talk, couldn't move his arms or head, and really couldn't do anything. But daddy was asking questions getting the young man to smile in response. And he carried on like that with the disabled man till he was called back to the doctor's office.

When a dog comes up to another dog, front legs bowed or his tail high or wagging, his friend knows he wants to play. But new research shows that this play behavior is surprisingly similar when horses and dogs play.

They found that while playing, both dogs and horses often had relaxed, open mouths, which is a common playful facial expression in animals. Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei officially launched the 2.0 version of its self-developed operating system (OS) on Wednesday night, the HarmonyOS. The move paved the way for the Chinese firm to challenge Google's and Apple's role in current and future OS ecosystems.

Analysts said the OS will do a lot to promote Huawei's transformation into being a software service provider. Huawei's founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that the company was focusing on software because future development in the field was fundamentally “outside of US control and we will have greater independence and autonomy(自主权)”. 2.所使用语法结构和词汇较为丰富、准确, 可能有些许错误, 但完全不影响意义表达﹔
3.比较有效地使用了语句间的连接成分,使所续写短文结构紧凑。
第三档(11——15分)
1.与所给短文关系较为密切,与所提供各段落开头语有一定程度的衔接;
2.应用的语法结构和词汇能满足任务的要求,虽有一些错误,但不影响意义的表达;
3.应用简单的语句间的连接成分,使全文内容连贯。
第二档(6——10分)
1.与所给短文有一定的关系,与所提供各段落开头语有一定程度的衔接;
