Larry was on his underwater expeditions(探险) again but this time, it was different. He decided to take his daughter along with him. She was only ten years old. This would be her first trip with her father on what he had always been famous for.
Larry first began diving when he was his daughter’s age. Similarly, his father had taken him along on one of his expeditions. Since then, he had never looked back. Larry started out by renting diving suits from the small diving shop just along the shore. He had hated them. They were either too big or too small. Then, there was the coach. He gave him a short lesson before allowing him into the water with his father. He had made an exception. Larry would never have been able to go down without at least five hours of theory and another similar number of hours on practical lessons with a guide. Children of his age were not even allowed to dive.
After the first expedition, Larry’s later diving adventures only got better and better. There was never a dull moment. In his black and blue suit and with an oxygen tank (罐) fastened on his back, Larry dived from boats into the middle of the ocean. Dangerous areas did not prevent him from continuing his search. Sometimes, he was limited to a cage underwater but that did not bother him. At least, he was still able to take photographs of the underwater creatures.
Larry’s first expedition without his father was in the Cayman Islands. There were numerous diving spots in the area and Larry was determined to visit all of them. Fortunately for him, a man offered to take him around the different spots for free. Larry did not even know what the time was, how many spots he dived into or how many photographs he had taken. The diving spots afforded such a lot of fish and sea creatures that Larry saw more than thirty varieties of creatures.
Larry looked at his daughter. She looked as excited as he had been when he was her age. He hoped she would be able to continue the family tradition. Already, she looked like she was much braver than Larry had been then. This was the key to a successful underwater expedition.
    24. In what way was this expedition different for Larry?
    A. His daughter had grown up. B. He had become a famous diver.
    C. His father would dive with him. D. His daughter would dive with him.
    25. What can be inferred from Paragraph2?
    A. Larry had some special rights.
    B. Larry liked the rented diving suits.
    C. Divers had to buy diving equipment.
    D. Ten-year-old children were permitted to dive.
26.What can be learned from the underlined sentence?
    A. Larry didn’t wear a watch. B. Larry was not good at math.
    C. Larry had a poor memory. D. Larry enjoyed the adventure.
    27. What did Larry expect his daughter to do?
    A. To become a successful diver. B. To make a good diving guide.
    C. To take a lot of photos underwater. D. To have longer hours of training.

Henry Rollins wrote:“Loneliness adds beauty to life.” Indeed, in the eyes of artists, loneliness never goes out of style. There are paintings that draw loneliness, songs that are inspired by loneliness, and many works of literature that are about this theme.
In the eyes of UK economist Rachel Reeves, however, loneliness is far from romantic. Instead, it’s a serious problem in the country.
So how serious is it? On Jan. 17, UK Prime Minister Theresa May appointed(任命) Tracey Crouch as the country’s first “Minister for Loneliness”. Her job is to tackle the loneliness—a problem which is affecting more than 9 million people in the country, and is more harmful to one’s physical and mental health than smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
And the problem hasn’t just appeared recently. In 2014, the UK was given the title “loneliness capital of Europe” by The Telegraph. A survey found that British people were less likely to get to know their neighbors or build strong relationships with people than those from other European countries.
But this doesn’t mean that the problem only affects Britons. In fact, we’re suffering from loneliness now more than ever, despite most of the world now having access to the Internet, which has made us more connected than ever.
What we need, according to Kim Leadbetter, is to have “proper human connections”. “Our lives nowadays are so busy. We spend most of our time on our phones, laptops. We need to sit down and speak to human beings,” Leadbetter said.
But the first steps toward fighting this problem are to accept its existence. After all, without loneliness, many beautiful paintings, songs, and literary works wouldn’t even exist. And bad or not, being lonely is simply part of the experience of being human.
    28. What can we learn about the UK’s loneliness problem?
    A. The government is working to solve the problem.
    B. More than half of British people suffer from loneliness.
    C. The UK became the loneliest country in the world in 2014.
    D. British people communicate less with their neighbors than ever.
    29. What does the underlined word “tackle” in the third paragraph probably mean?
    A.Suffer. B.Fight. C.Ignore. D.Avoid.
    30. What does Leadbetter suggest doing to deal with loneliness?
    A. Accepting its existence calmly.
    B. Making more phone calls to our friends.
    C. Stopping the use of electronic products.
    D. Communicating with the people around us face to face more often.
    31. Which of the following would the author probably agree with?
    A. Loneliness is bad to society.
    B. It is hard to find a solution to social loneliness.
    C. Loneliness is just a normal part of our life.
    D. Only artists can appreciate the beauty of loneliness.
    D
Slang (俚语) is a popular, less official and often very current form of language. It is an important part of a living language and is constantly changing as language changes. Slang is often playful, direct and sometimes less respectful than the more official and traditional version of language. So now I’m going to lay it on you! To “lay it on” is American slang for “to tell” or “to explain.”
Slang can take many forms. For example, slang can be local to one city or area. In Washington, D.C., there is a whole set of slang to describe politics and business in the city. For example, the term POTUS stands for President of the United States. POTUS can often be found with his wife, FLOTUS, the first lady of the United States. “Inside the Beltway” is a popular expression that describes the area of Washington, D.C. The beltway is the large highway that circles the city.
The Internet has helped create a whole new kind of computer-related slang. An “angry fruit salad” is an expression that describes a Web site with too many bright colors. “Netiquette” is slang for correct behavior when using the Internet.
Young people often develop the latest slang. For example, to say Special English “rocks” or is “phat” means Special English is really great. A “kegger” is a party where beer is served.  If something is “wack”, it is wild and crazy.
Different professions often have their own slang as well. For example, medical workers might describe a complaining patient as a “gomer”. A “tough stick” is someone whose veins are difficult to find when he or she needs to have blood taken.
No matter how well you speak English, there are always new and interesting slang words to discover. There are entire dictionaries for describing slang. Many experts do not even agree on what is and what is not slang. Often slang words later become a part of officially accepted language. Official or not, slang is an energetic and exciting part of the American language that continues to change.
    32. Which of the following can describe slang compared with the official language?
    A. Playful. B. Indirect. C. Very respectful. D. More official.
    33. If you attend a beer party, which slang you may use?
    A. Gomer. B. Kegger. C. Phat. D.Netigquette.
    34. What can be inferred from the passage?
    A. Good English learners have no trouble understanding English native speakers.
    B. Slang words will never be accepted as official language.
    C. Slang words are created by people in their daily life.
    D. Slang may disappear in the near future.
    35. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?
    A. A Brief Introduction of Slang. B. An Interesting story of Slang.
    C. The Difficulty of Slang. D. The Founder of Slang.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you have ever done competitive sports, you will know that starting a new season means a lot of hard work and practice. 36 Here are a few ways to make sure that you’re ready for the first day.
37 Schedule specific workout times during the week to help you stick with it. Ask your coach, gym teacher or trainer for some advice before writing your plan. Besides, write down how long you have worked out and what activity you have done.
Ask your coach if you aren’t sure what you need. New equipment can be expensive, so think about using some second-hand equipment if it’s available. Brothers, sisters and friends can be great sources of used equipment. 38 You can ask your coach to take a look at it before the first day of practice. If you are a returning player, take out all your equipment, try it on and make sure that it still fits and works.
39 Sports camps can help new and experienced players brush up on skills before the season starts. College players, coaches or other professionals usually teach in the camps. Many schools and colleges offer various sports camps during the summer and on the weekend during the school year.
Your school or team will probably require a physical check before allowing you to participate. Because everyone needs to get checked at the beginning of the season, doctors tend to be busy those times of the year. Therefore, set up an appointment with the doctor earlier. 40
    A. Set realistic goals.
    B. You can also consider a sports camp.
    C. Just make sure that it’s very clean and safe to use.
    D. It’s also normal to feel a little nervous about starting.
    E. Making the team and getting in shape are great goals.
    F. Start by writing an exercise plan if you don’t have one.
    G. That can give the doctor plenty of time to fill out your paperwork.

    第三节 (满分15分)
    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落的开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was Christmas Eve, and almost all the people were getting together with their family, having the big dinner or enjoying the charming lights of the Christmas tree. But Tomas was still on the way, and it was still a long way to the destination. He felt tired, lonely and cold, especially when the wind was blowing in his cab. Tomas pulled in the truck and reached for his jacket but stopped when he saw the box on the passenger seat next to him.
His mother was the greatest mother in the world who worried about him spending Christmas on the road alone and had given him a box filled with presents before he left home. Though he is a driver now, his mum still treats him like a kid. He reached into the red stocking that was in the box and brought out a toy tractor that looked a lot like his truck. He wondered how many stores his mother had to go to before she found such a close match. Tears filled his eyes.
He climbed out of his truck and ran into the all-night cafe, which was a truck stop that many truck drivers liked to have a rest in.
But today, besides those truckers who were eating and talking loudly as usual, there were a family of three sitting in a corner, wearing shabby (破旧的) clothes and looking sleepy. The mother hugged the boy who looked unhappy in her arms and the father only muttered something to them or to himself.
Seeing this, Tomas missed his family more. His mum raised four kids by herself, but no matter how hard the life was, she always made sure they had a good Christmas.
    注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为80左右;
    2.续写部分的开头语已为你写好。
    Paragraph 1:
Tomas felt sorry for the boy. No kid should spend Christmas Eve in a truck stop. Then he thought of his box filled with presents chosen by his mother. He looked at the kid again and knew what to do. He put on his jacket, went outside and climbed into his truck. In no time did he come back with that stocking.
    Paragraph 2:
    He walked to the family.

    Dear Andy,
How’s everything going? Recently, I have some trouble with English writing. I’m writing to ask you for suggestions about how to improve it.
First, it’s difficult for me to use the right grammar in my composition. Besides, I’m unable to use proper words and phrases to express my views. The problems bother me so much that I can’t wait to take action to make changes. As an American, you must be good at writing in English, so I hope you can give me some advice. I’d appreciate it if you could help me get rid of the problems.
    Best wishes!
    Yours,
    Li Hua.

He walked to the family. "I think Santa Claus left this for you," Tomas said and handed it to the boy. "Tell Santa thanks, and best wishes to you," the boy's father said and shook Tomas' hand long and hard. The boy's face lit up almost at once and he eagerly dug inside the stocking, full of curiosity and happiness. Tomas felt a little excited and thought it was the greatest Christmas that he had ever had. What made him more amazed was that he didn't feel tired or lonely anymore.

    Text 10
(Man) The other day my friend came back from Africa. We had a good 2-hour conversation about his trip. He did not go on this trip for vacation. He just tried to get to know the poor and the unfortunate better. My friend had expected to feel bad for those people as they did not have what a lot of others do, but he told he didn’t feel this way. The African kids and adults described themselves to be very fortunate and the kind of people that made their lives so great even without things such as phones, laptops and so on. He hopes to be like them making the most of what he has and even in the worst cases being happy. I hope to be able to live like this as well. The power of keeping yourself happy and being appreciative can give you the best feeling in the world. All in all, keep staying happy and smiling. That’s the most important for us.
