M: Hello, and thank you for asking me to your teachers’ meeting to talk about the Dinosaur Museum and to tell you a bit about what you can do with your students there. Well, let me give you some of the basic information first. In regard to opening hours, we’re open every day of the week from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m. except on Mondays when we close at 1:00 p.m. And in fact the only day in the year when we’re closed is the 25th of December. You can book a guided tour for your school group any time that we’re open. If you bring a school group to the museum, when you arrive we ask you to remain with your group in the car park. One or more of the tour guides will welcome you there and brief you about what the tour will be about. We do this there because our entrance is quite small and we really haven’t got much room for briefing group in the exhibition area. There are two cafes in the museum, with seating for 80 people. They are open to the public. If you want to eat there, you’ll need to reserve some seating, as they can get quite crowded at lunch time. Then outside the museum at the back there are tables, and students can bring their own lunch and eat it there in the open air.

Vincent van Gogh was born in 1853 in Zundert in the south of the Netherlands. He was unlucky to live only for 37 years and to discover his love for art at the age of 27. Therefore, he worked as an artist for only 10 years of his life.
During the Enlightenment Age (启蒙时代), emphasis on literature, philosophy, science, fine arts and music became more widespread especially with the growing middle class. This means that Vincent van Gogh had lived in a flourishing artistic movement, which was supposed to help him succeed as an artist and become rich. On the contrary, he did not win reputation as an artist. Although Vincent painted 900 paintings and more than 1,100 drawings, his works remained unknown and unsold and his brother Theo supported him financially during his lifetime.
Perhaps one of the reasons for his failure as an artist is his clumsy behavior when he suffered from mental illness. Another reason is his short-tempered nature and rudeness which most of the time brought him bloody fights with his fellow Gauguin (高更) that ended up with cutting off Vincent’s ears. Moreover, he was always dirty and not well-dressed, which made people avoid dealing with him and buying his artistic works. Furthermore, his poor health gave more blows to his life and caused an early death to such a great artist. But now in our age, his magnificent painting (Portrait of Dr. Gachet加谢医生的肖像) is sold around 150 million dollars at auction (拍卖). Vincent van Gogh is just an example of the talented people who failed in their pursuit of glory.
24. What can we learn about Vincent before he was 27?
A He showed no love for art. B. He enjoyed staying alone.
C. He had a great interest in art. D. He spent much time painting.
25. How many reasons are given to present Vincent’s failure as an artist?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
26. Why didn’t people like to trade with Vincent?
A. He was in a mess. B. He became angry easily.
C. He didn’t have fine works D. He often fought with others.
A 25. C 26. A

根据第一段的第二句“He was unlucky to live only for 37 years and to discover his love for art at the age of 27. Therefore, he worked as an artist for only 10 years of his life.”(不幸的是,他只活了37岁,并在27岁时发现了自己对艺术的热爱。 故选A项。

Another reason is his short-tempered nature and rudeness which most of the time brought him bloody fights with his fellow Gauguin that ended up with cutting off Vincent’s ears. Moreover, he was always dirty and not well-dressed, which made people avoid dealing with him and buying his artistic works. Furthermore, his poor health gave more blows to his life and caused an early death to such a great artist.”(也许他作为一个艺术家失败的原因之一是当他患有精神疾病时的笨拙行为。
根据第三段的第三句“Moreover, he was always dirty and not well-dressed, which made people avoid dealing with him and buying his artistic works.”(此外,他总是很脏,穿着不讲究,以致人们避免与他打交道,也不购买他的艺术作品。) 故选A项。

After months of expectation, the official mascot (吉祥物) of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games-a giant panda-inspired cartoon character-made its first public debut with cheers at Beijing’s Shougang Ice Hockey Arena(首钢冰球馆).
The panda is named “Bing Dwen Dwen” in Chinese. Bing means “ice” in Chinese, while Dwen Dwen suggests “health and cleverness” -characteristics also shared by pandas. Pandas are perhaps the most recognized animal species in China, organizers said.
“Pandas combine China’s traditional culture and its modern appearance together with winter sports elements in a fascinating image that shows our great expectations for the Games and shows that we welcome the world,” said Beijing Mayor Chen Jining.
“I have already seen the mascot and from what I’ve seen, it’s a wonderful choice,” IOC (国际奥委会)President Thomas Bach said before introducing the character. “The mascot really takes in the best elements and characteristics of China and the Chinese people. It will be a great ambassador for the country and the 24th Winter Olympics.”
The ring of light surrounding the mascot’s face is suggestive of ice and snow tracks, as well as the flowing “ribbons” (丝带) of the National Speed Skating Oval(国家速滑馆). The oval is one of two new competition sites in downtown Beijing expected to become a landmark of the Games, according to its chief designer Cao Xue.
The introduction of the mascots marks the key point of a journey that began in August 2018, when Beijing organizers started a global design competition for the mascots. A total of 5,816 designs were received from 35 countries, and were reviewed by Chinese and international experts in a comprehensive evaluation and selection process.
The new mascot will serve as spirited symbol of the Games that will take place in the three zones of downtown Beijing, the suburban district of Yanqing and co-host city Zhangjiakou in surrounding Hebei province.
27. What does the underlined word “debut” in paragraph1 mean?
A. Design. B. Appearance. C. Understanding. D. Attention.
28. What does Bach think of the mascot?
A. Surprising. B. Entertaining. C. Satisfying D. Interesting.
29. What’s paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The origin of the mascot image. B. The introduction to the mascot designer.
C. The hard work behind the mascot design. D. The hidden meaning of the mascot image.
30. What can be a suitable title for the text ?
A. The Mascot of the 24th Winter Olympic Games
B. A Historical Moment of the Winter Olympic Games
C. A Lovely Panda Welcomes the World
D. Comments on the Mascot of the 24th Winter Olympics
B 28. C 29. D 30. A
根据划线单词上文“After months of expectation, the official mascot (吉祥物) of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games-a giant panda-inspired cartoon character(经过数月的期待和保密,2022年冬季奥运会官方吉祥物——一个以大熊猫为灵感的卡通人物)”和下文“at Beijing’s Shougang Ice Hockey Arena(在北京首钢冰球场)”可知,2022年冬季奥运会官方吉祥物在长时间的期待和保密后,在北京首钢冰球场第一次亮相,由此可知,划线单词“debut”指的是“出现;亮相”,与B项“appearance(出现)”意思一样,故选B。
根据第四段中“I have already seen the mascot and from what I’ve seen, it’s a wonderful choice(我已经看到了吉祥物,从我所看到的来看,这是一个很好的选择)”可知,巴赫认为吉祥物很好,由此可推知,他对吉祥物是很满意的,故选C。
根据第五段“The ring of light surrounding the mascot’s face is suggestive of ice and snow tracks, as well as the flowing “ribbons” (丝带) of the National Speed Skating Oval(国家速滑馆). The oval is one of two new competition sites in downtown Beijing expected to become a landmark of the Games, according to its chief designer Cao Xue.(环绕吉祥物脸部的光环让人联想到冰雪赛道,以及流动的国家速滑椭圆形“丝带”。据总设计师曹雪介绍,国家速滑馆是北京市中心两个新的竞赛场地之一,有望成为本届奥运会的标志性建筑。)”可知,第五段主语介绍了吉祥物形象的隐含意义,故选D。
【30题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“After months of expectation, the official mascot (吉祥物) of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games-a giant panda-inspired cartoon character-made its first public debut with cheers at Beijing’s Shougang Ice Hockey Arena(首钢冰球馆).(经过数月的期待和保密,2022年冬季奥运会官方吉祥物——一个以大熊猫为灵感的卡通人物,在北京首钢冰球场首次公开亮相。)” 由此可知,A项“The Mascot of the 24th Winter Olympic Games(第24届冬奥会的吉祥物)”适合做文章的标题,故选A。

Reasons you're not losing weight
Trying to get rid of the pounds but find it useless? A report found that 38 percent of adults in England are obese and 46 percent are overweight. So why do we find it so hard?____31____
•Your portion sizes are too big.
Portion sizes have expanded over history. Sixty years ago food was more expensive and more scarce and portions were smaller.____32____Thus, controlling your portion sizes by weighing foods helps you to keep the weight off.

When dieters have less sleep over a period of time, they long for sugary or high calorie snacks to "wake up". However, it's not the whole story.____33____Because of this, you will hang on to fat.
•You're disorganized with the three meals.
Breakfast is "the most important meal of the day" yet more than half of Britons skip it. Actually, it aids your weight loss, making you feel full- until lunchtime without any snacks.____34____That's because late night eaters tend to make worse food choices.
•____35____
We might be told that fruit and grains are beneficial to our health. But even they can keep the fat on if we eat too many of them. For example, fruits are good but many are full of fructose(果糖), which also contribute to weight gain if eaten in large quantities.

That's because late night eaters tend to make worse food choices."(这是因为夜猫子往往会做出更糟糕的食物选择。)

I was excited. I had been invited to go to my friend's birthday party. Tori was not my best friend, but she was in my class and we did stuff together. And I liked to go to parties. I asked my mom and she said I could go, so I told Tori that I’d be there.
And then, two days later, my very, very best friend called. She and her family were going to Disneyland for the whole day. She invited me to go with them. Disneyland! I loved Disneyland so much. I really wanted to go... more than anything. I ran to ask my mom if it was okay. That’s when my mom reminded me that Tori’s party was on the same day. She said I couldn’t change my mind just because something better came along.
I was mad. So mad. Disneyland was my favorite place in the whole world and I loved to go there ... and I especially liked going with my best friend. My excitement about going to the birthday party was gone. Tori’s party would be okay but not as fun as a whole day at Disneyland and besides that, Tori wasn’t even my best friend. I begged my mom. She said no. I cried. I sulked (生闷气). My mom still said no.
My mom explained to me – once you accept an invitation to something, you can’t change your mind and go to something just because you want to do the other thing more. That isn’t nice. She asked me to think about how I would feel if someone did that to me. I didn’t want to admit it, but my mom was right. It would hurt my feelings if someone did that to me.
Although I didn’t want to, I told my best friend that l wouldn’t be able to go to Disneyland with her. So my friend and her family went to Disneyland and my mom dropped me off at Tori’s party.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
When my mom came to pick me up, I didn’t want to leave.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
In spite of the fact that I had not wanted to go, I had a great time at the party! We did stuff that was fun and different. We watched a movie that hadn’t come out in theaters yet; we were the first people to see it and that was pretty amazing. There was also a make-your-own pizza contest. Laughter filled the house as we saw each other covered in pizza dough and cheese. And the most exciting moment came when we were awarded presents for the first pizza we had made in life. I was so immersed in the enjoyable atmosphere that I totally forgot my annoyance at not being able to go to Disneyland with my best friend.
When my mom came to pick me up, I didn’t want to leave. On the way home, I kept talking about the fun things we had done, my face glowing with excitement. My mom was glad that I’d had a good time at the birthday party and she told me that she was proud of me for understanding what a friend should do. Not only did I love the party and have a great time, but I also learned an important lesson: you can’t just dump someone because something better comes along. My mom was right... as usual.
