We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parts less than 10 minutes? walk from home where neighborhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen ? any screen ? and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today抯 children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet.
In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organizations have begun coming
up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago film-maker David Bond realized that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say 揷hocolate? into his three-year-old son抯 ear without getting a response. He realized that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself 搈arketing director from Nature?. He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.
揓ust five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,? David Bond says. 揟here is a lot of
really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the
age of seven, then being outdoors will be a habit for life.? His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: 揥e just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.”
Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as
they need it. Let us get them out and let them play.
    24. What is the problem with the author抯 children?
    A. They often annoy their neighbors. B. They are tired of doing their homework.
    C. They have no friends to play with. D. They stay in front of screens for too long.
    25. How did David Bond advocate his idea?
    A. By making a documentary film. B. By organizing outdoor activities.
    C. By advertising in London media. D. By creating a network of friends.
    26. Which of the following can replace the underlined word 揷harts? in paragraph 2?
    A. records B. predicts C. delays D. confirms
    27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Let Children Have Fun B. Young Children Need More Free Time
    C. Market Nature to Children D. David Bond: A Role Model for Children
    C
If you enjoy American stories, you抣l have noticed that many of them take place on the road. Many famous American novels are about stories that occur while their characters are traveling along highways. These novels are often celebrations of American life.
Jesmyn Ward抯 National Book Award winner Sing, Unburied, Sing is a road novel, but not a
celebration. The road journey here is through Mississippi, as an African-American mother and her two children travel to collect her white husband as he抯 released from jail.
Neither the mother, Leonie, nor the father, Michael, are ideal parents. Leonie in particular is
so full of anger and regret that she takes out her unhappiness on her children, the 13-year-old Jojo and his little sister Kayla.
The telling of the story is divided between various narrators. Jojo, the boy, is the most
sympathetic of them. But it is worrying to read about how he experiences the world. Even though
    第七次模拟考试英语试题 第4页,共8页。
he抯 young, he抯 already experienced the dark side of life. The opening sentence of the book gives a sense of Jojo抯 unnatural maturity ? 揑 like to think I know what death is. I like to think that I could look at it straight.”
But who, or what, is to blame for these sad circumstances? For Ward, it抯 clearly the past. She
admires the work of fellow novelist William Faulkner. When she thinks about the past, she抯 of the same mind as him.
Faulkner famously wrote, 揟he past is never dead. It抯 not even past.? At one point, Ward
says that her characters are 損ulling the past with them? like a too-heavy trailer (拖车) coupled to the car, as they journey on through Mississippi to the jailhouse. The biggest part of this past, of course, is racism ? the remains of slavery ? which is always there, and ruining life.
This is probably why The Washington Post listed Sing, Unburied, Sing as one of its 10
choices of 2017抯 Best Books. 揟he misery of this one family is tied to crimes that stretch over decades,? wrote the newspaper.
    28. What can we learn about Sing, Unburied, Sing from the text?
    A. It was recently adapted as a film.
    B. It抯 a celebration of American life.
    C. 1t is a story of a road trip through Mississippi.
    D. It抯 one of 2017抯 best-selling American novels.
    29. According to the text, what is the character Jojo like?
    A. He is the main narrator of the novel.
    B. He is unusually mature for his age.
    C. He presents less sympathy than others.
    D. He is the youngest child in the family.
    30. What is the root cause of the family抯 difficulty according to the text?
    A. The unhappy marriage of the parents.
    B. The experience of being in prison.
    C. The lack of financial support.
    D. The existence of racism.
    31. Why is William Faulkner抯 line mentioned in the text?
    A. To prove Ward shares a similar opinion of the past with him.
    B. To show Ward has drawn a lot of inspiration from him.
    C. To show Ward is as great a novelist as he is.
    D. To compare Ward抯 writing style with his.
    D
In the near future, instead of going to your wardrobe (衣柜) to choose something to throw on
for your next video call, you might turn to your virtual wardrobe to pick out a 3D digital dress to
wear. At least, that抯 what a number of people in the fashion and tech space are relying on as more businesses look to the promise of digital fashion. Moreover, those virtual clothes won抰 just be for your video calls, but could eventually be worn all over the virtual world, and eventually,
perhaps, viewed on your body in the real world through the Augmented Reality (AR) glasses.
揟here are more and more 憇econd worlds? where you can express yourself. But there is probably an underestimation of the value being attached to individuals who want to express themselves in a virtual world with a virtual product, through a virtual image,? a marketing officer Robert said. As the field develops, there are two ways of using digital clothes ? wearing them yourself through AR and providing digital clothes for your virtual body.
But why should we replace our physical clothes? Supporters say there抯 unlimited creative
expression through digital clothes, which now look increasingly more elegant thanks to developments in 3D and AR technology. 揅lothing represents an expression of a personality. It always exists in the physical world, and it will exist in the virtual world,? said Simon Whitehouse, a designer.
He explained, 揊rom the brand side, it抯 incredibly profitable to sell clothes without
producing physical clothes. It抯 reinventing an entire supply chain. There抯 no water usage, and there抯 very limited CO2 emission. There are no samples being sent out or returned. There are no show rooms, and there抯 no physical prototype (实物模型).”
    32. What can you probably do in the near future according to paragraph 1?
    A. Open a virtual fashion clothing store.
    B. Design 3D digital clothes for yourself.
    C. Buy a bigger wardrobe for your bedroom.
    D. Wear virtual clothes made by digital technology.
    33. What can we infer from Simon抯 words in paragraph 3?
    A. AR technology will bring a challenge to people.
    B. One抯 character will be seen in the virtual world.
    C. Digital clothes will be more convenient for people.
    D. One抯 expression only can be seen in the physical world.
    34. What is Simon抯 attitude to digital clothing?
    A. Approving. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Grateful.
    35. What is the text mainly about?
    A. The increase in AR glasses. B. The digital fashion in the future.
    C. The virtual body in digital clothes. D. AR glasses made by new technology.
