Good morning/afternoon!Step 1 Revising the usage of subject in a sentenceT: The most common subject can be expressed by nouns, pronouns, numerals, infinitives, gerunds, etc. For example:1. The universe is entirely made up of different kinds of matter.T: The universe is the noun as the subject.2. To see is to believe. T:To see” is the infinitive as the subject.3. Driving a car to Beijing took longer than I expected.T: Driving…” is the gerundial phrase as the subject.【设计意图:理解主语从句首先理解主语,所以从做主语的成分入手,自然引出主语从句。】 Step 2 Exploring the rules of subject clauses T asks Ss to go through the text in A P20 and asks students to pick out relevant sentences.T: Open your books at page 20 and read through the text. And then find out the sentences with subject clauses. T: When a sentence serves as a subject, it is a subject clause. Pick out the sentences with subject clauses in the text. T asks students to underline the subject clauses.Answers:1. That Hubble is based in space allows it to see further than ground-based telescopes, and it allows scientists to learn more about the universe. 2. Whether life on other planets does exist is yet to be proved, but the signs are promising. 3. It is clear that telescopes are crucial tools for space exploration and that developing the required technology will help astronomers all over the world make exciting discoveries. 4. How much we will learn from the telescopes is merely limited by our imagination.设计意图:通过发现课文中的主语从句,让学生获得对主语从句的基本认识。】 Step 3 Working out the rulesT asks Students to work out the form of subject clauses. We can use a noun clause as the subject of a sentence. We can use (1)________ to introduce a subject clause when the clause is a statement. We can use (2)________ to introduce a subject clause when the clause is a yes-no question. We can use a question word to introduce a subject clause when the clause is a wh-question. Finish off writing B3.Sample answer:It is clear that many exciting things will happen in the development of space exploration in the future. I think manned space missions to Mars will happen in my lifetime and a permanent base on Mars will also be established. Hopefully, new energy sources will be developed, which will make space flight cheaper and faster. But how soon and how far we advance in developing the required technology to do so depends on the collaboration between the many countries around the world. It is possible that the technology will be available before 2040 and I am looking forward to that.
