    Electric Vehicle Benefits
Plug-in electric vehicles (also known as electric cars or EVs) are connected, fun, and practical. They can reduce emissions and even save your money.
Fueling with electricity offers some advantages not available in ordinary internal burning engine vehicles. Because electric motors react quickly, EVs are very responsive and have very good torque(使机器运转的扭转力). EVs are often more digitally connected than conventional vehicles, with many EV charging stations providing the option to control charging from a smartphone app.
Just like a smartphone, you can plug in your EV when you get home and have it ready for you to use the next morning. Since the electric grid (输电网) is available almost anywhere, there are a variety of options for charging: at home, at work or on the road. By charging often, you may never need to go to a gas station again!
You can find many advantages with an electric car:
◆Zero Oil price and promotes Energy Management
◆Aids in reducing the Emission of Green House Gases
◆No tailpipe pollutants emitted and leads to reduced air pollution
◆No gas required to run your Electric Car
◆Cost Effective and many governments are appreciating Electric Cars by money back offers
◆Electric Cars guarantee a smooth drive and reduce noise pollution too.
Electric Cars are modes of Green Transportation that run using Batteries, Solar Panels or other energy sources that are just one time investment. The charging of batteries of saving energy through Solar Panels might be time consuming, but such initiatives ensure a safe environment. Though electric cars are a little costly, we should participate in such a global initiative and encourage others to do the same. After all, it is we who can make our world a better place to live in.
    21. Compared with conventional cars, Electrical Vehicles can _______.
    A. react quickly
    B. increase air pollution
    C. be charged only at home
    D. be connected less digitally
    22. Which of the following is NOT the advantage of an electric car?

    B. Reducing noise pollution
    C. Ensuring a smooth drive
    D. Ruining energy management
    23. What’s the author’s attitude towards electric cars?
    A. Doubtful B. Supportive C. Opposed D. Indifferent

It was Thanksgiving Day a few years ago. My daughter was sitting on the couch watching the parade. My dogs kept lifting their noses to sniff the turkey slowly cooking in the oven. And my sons and I were secretly getting a piece of pumpkin pie with cream to hold us until dinner was done. As we lifted our forks I said, “Life is short! Eat dessert first!” Then I smiled as we ate our pie with delight and gave the outside part to the dogs.
Later I decided to take my oldest dog, Snoopy out for a walk. As we slowly walked through the ankle deep leaves I let my mind wander to memories of Thanksgivings past. I could see my grown children as babies sitting in their high chairs covered in mashed potatoes. I remembered all of those years spent visiting their grandparents and all of the special foods they made. There was sausage stuffing, noodles and cheese, and fried potatoes. There was turkey and delicious desserts made with love. And there was the three day nap (小睡) you wanted to take after dinner.
Even more than the food were the memories of joy that stuck in my mind and stayed in my heart. There were the smiles and hugs, the shared stories and laughter, the love so freely given at this time of the year. I went back inside with all of them flowing through me. I felt both glad and sad at the same time. I was happy for all the blessed times we had shared over the years and sad that they had flown by so fast. Most of all, though, I felt at peace and thankful to God for this wonderful life we are given here.
The truth is the more you love, the more thankfulness fills your heart. The more you love, the more joy you create in your life. Make the most of each day you are given here then. Be thankful for the glorious gift of life. Be the blessing you were meant to be and make every day Thanksgiving Day.
    24. What do the first two paragraphs focus on?
    A. The preparations for Thanksgiving
    B. The happy memories of Thanksgiving
    C. The various ways to celebrate Thanksgiving
    D. The customs of celebrating Thanksgiving
    25. Why did the author feel sad?
    A. Happy times spent with her family seemed short.
    B. She wished she were young again.
    C. She had many regrets in those happy times.
    D. Things changed much and she never felt the same.
    26. What can we infer from the passage?
    A. Desserts were the author’s favorite.
    B. The author’s grandparents were good chefs.
    C. Delicious food was the best part of her memories.
    D. The get-together of the family was full of love.
    27. What does the author want to tell us through the passage?
    A. We should make the best of Thanksgiving Days.
    B. Everybody should treasure the time with their family.
    C. People should live at present and be grateful for what they have.
    D. Thanksgiving Days are the best time for people to express their love.

The Notting Hill Carnival is London’s biggest street festival and one of the most famous carnivals in the world. The carnival is an important cultural event for London’s Afro Caribbean community and celebration of multi-cultural British life.
Notting Hill Carnival takes place in London every August bank holiday. Bank holiday refers to a public holiday, for example Christmas Day. It is the most colourful and largest street event in the UK. The festival celebrates the traditions of the Afro-Caribbean community, who immigrated to England from the West Indies in the 1950s. They brought with them the Caribbean idea of the carnival, with colourful costumes, parades, steel bands and street dancing. The tradition to hold the carnival began in 1964 and it has taken place every year since then.
Preparations for the carnival start many months in advance. Costumes need to be made, and floats built, ready for the carnival street parades. Steel bands practise traditional Caribbean music on instruments built from used oil buckets. Just before the festival, the streets are decorated with yellow, green and red banners, and recording devices are set in place to carry the rhythmic sounds over the loud noise of the London traffic. The carnival is celebrated over three days, and is full of music and colour. Parades of steel and brass bands, floats, and dancers in colourful costumes make their way through the narrow London streets, watched by tens of thousands of people. The streets are lined with stands selling tropical fruits, such as fresh mangoes, watermelons and pineapples. Everyone in London dances—young and old, black and white—and even the policemen on duty take part in the fun. For these three days in August, a little Caribbean magic touches the streets of London.
    28. What is the writer's main aim in writing the text?
    A. To encourage people to celebrate the traditions of black people

    30. During the Notting Hill Carnival, _______.
    A. fruit stands are not allowed in the streets.
    B. preparations start early in the morning
    C. music and colour fill the streets of London
    D. traffic is banned from the main shopping streets
    31. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
    A. The festival is popular with everyone in London.
    B. Only Caribbean people take part in it.
    C. It is gaining in popularity among the white in recent years.
    D. The streets in London are filled with pop music.

    D
In Asia, the car is as much a status symbol as it is a means of transport. A car’s design is not the only consideration when a vehicle has to suit the needs of everyone in the family .
This is the case for one particular group of drivers: The sandwich generation, who are stuck between caring for their children and caring for their parents. For them, the ‘family car’ is often shared with everyone from the newly licensed teens to adults with their own kids, or grandparents struggling with physical mobility.
With differing demands of so many people from boomers to Gen Z, your car has to appeal to all — and keep everyone safe in the event of a car accident.
Over 20% of serious driver accidents involving teens were caused by driving too fast for the road conditions. But it isn’t just risky driving behavior that causes teens to be the source of serious road accidents. In fact, according to research conducted by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, most speed-related teen crashes are due to inexperience and a lack of driving skills rather than intentionally risky driving behavior.
It can be challenging for newbie drivers to appropriately judge the proper speed at which to take turns, especially on less-than-perfect roads or driving conditions. Helping them along is Subaru’s Active Torque Vectoring, which makes up for any over-eagerness, ensuring you can take the car through corners in a smooth and safe manner.
For seniors with slower reaction, or having difficulty stretching out their neck to check blind spots, being able to quickly avoid danger can be critical. Subaru’s Blind Spot Detection system will alert you if there’s a vehicle in the neighboring lane. What’s more, Subaru’s EyeSight Lane Departure Warning warns the driver if they start to stray by accident from their traffic lane and endanger other vehicles in the neighbouring lane, while the EyeSight Lane Sway Warning system will remind you should you begin to move back and forth in your lane.
It can be difficult to find a car that appeals to multiple generations. But there are some things you should never compromise regardless of your age or driving experience. And at the top of that list is safety.
    32. According to the text, what is the reason for most speed-related teen crashes?
    A. Their risky driving behavior on purpose
    B. Their inability to check blind spots.
    C. A lack of experience and driving skills
    D. The busy roads or ideal driving conditions
    33. What will help new drivers to take turns at proper speed?
    A. Subaru’s Active Torque Vectoring
    B. EyeSight Lane Sway Warning system
    C. Subaru’s Blind Spot Detection system
    D. Subaru’s EyeSight Lane Departure Warning
    34. What is the meaning of the underlined word in paragraph 5?
    A. Speed up B. Move away C. Pull over D. Turn around
    35. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. The sandwich generation mainly care about their parents’ demands.
    B. It is challenging to design a multifunctional car to satisfy everyone.
    C. It’s extremely important to drive safely no matter how old the drivers are.
    D. Subaru can ensure driving safety of the drivers ranging from teens to seniors.

As we all know, no one is willing to help a old man when he fell down in the street. The people who stands nearby run away in a hurry instead lending a hand. Even the policeman doesn’t know why he should help him. It is truly that many people are afraid to help old people who fall down nowadays because they are worrying that they may get into trouble. And if the old people are your relatives or your friends, what should you do? Helping other is helping yourselves. So I hope more people are willing to offer a helping hand when seeing someone in troubles.
