Training for a marathon requires careful preparation and steady, gradual increases in the length of the runs. 36 , buy the best-fitting, best-built running shoes you can find.
A. After six days
B. For a good marathon runner
C. Before you begin your training
D. With each day, increase the distance by a half mile
E. If they still feel good, you can begin running in them
F. Time spent for preparation raises the quality of training
G. Now you are ready out a goal of improving distance and time
39 If you've been betrayed, you are the victim of your circumstance. But there's a difference between being a victim and living with a "victim mentality".
A. Learn to really trust yourself
B. It is putting confidence in someone
C. Stop regarding yourself as the victim
D. Remember that you can expect the best in return.
E. They've been too badly hurt and they can't bear to let it happen again..
F. This knowledge carries over in their attitude toward their future relationships.
G. Seeing the positive side of things doesn't mean you're ignoring what happened.
Try to solve the problem. After you're calm and you have support from adults and friends, it's time to
get down to business. 74 Even if you can't solve it all, you can solve a piece of it.
A. Ask for a helping hand to get you through the tough situation.
B. Notice your friends' feelings and find a way to help them.
C. Different people feel stress in different ways.
D. Ah, it feels so good when the stress is gone.
E. You need to figure out what the problem is.
F. And don't forget about your friends.
G. Then find a way to calm down.
【答案】E
【解析】本段主题句是“Try to solve the problem”,空后句又有solve it,其中it指什么?
(a)并列与递进关系:and,or,also,neither...... nor,either ......or,......is to say,as well as,besides等;
(b)因果关系:because,for,since,as,thus,hence,therefore,so,so......that,as a result等;
(c)转折让步关系:but,however,yet,rather than,instead of,despite,in spite of 等;
(d)时间关系:at last,finally,first,firstly,next,second,secondly等。
例如:
Practice safe wear and care of contact lenses(隐形眼镜). Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. While some follow the medical guidance for wearing contact lenses, many are breaking the rules and putting their eyesight at risk. _________ Otherwise, you may have problems such as red eyes, pain in the eyes, or a more serious condition.
A. Eat your greens
B. Eye care should begin early in life
C. They can properly protect your eyes
D. Stay in good shape by taking more vitamins
E. Parents usually don't care about their own eyesight
F. Always follow the doctor's advice for appropriate wear
G. This frequent eye activity increases the risk for eye tiredness
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don't cook more often: ability, money, and time. 36 . Money is a topic I'll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen.
A. Try new things.
B. Ability is easily improved.
C. Make three or four instead.
D. Understand your food better.
E. Cooking is a burden for many people.
F. Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.
G. A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.
According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive things to their children.
A. A healthy body contributes to one's intelligence.
B. Parents should also be careful about what they say to young children.
C. What people want to express is like this.
D. The children are then more likely to grow up bright and intelligent.
E. It needs exercise.
F. You are such a smart child.
G. These are very old questions and the answers to them are still not clear.
所以注意在选项中查找表示结论、总结等的信号词,如therefore,as a result,thus,in short,in a word等词语.
There is no doubt that analyzing the exact data is important to assessment of an actual event. But data shouldbe dealt with wisely. We often get wrong data which mislead us. Remember, data have no feeling but we humans have. Data do not mean much to people if we do not have the abilities to analyze the data with the knowledge and confidence to judge whether they are true or false. .
A. We should try our best to be wise thinkers.
B. Data can make our life easier and more comfortable.
C. But sometimes we may find that data aren't everything.
D. Sometimes our hearts and mind are more sensitive than data.
E. Now and then the so-called specific data puzzle us very much.
F. The exact data should come from assessment of an actual event.
G. There are many things in our life which cannot be measured by data.
【答案】A
There are a number of things you can do to beat your fears. One important approach is to become an expert in your problem. There are countless books and websites providing up-to-date theories and explanations about fears. If you become an expert in your fear, you will be able to make good decisions about the best treatment to overcome it.
A. You can also go to lectures and workshops.
B. Making some simple changes to your diet can make you look good.
【答案】A

Thieves often search drawers in the master bedroom but tend to leave kids’ rooms untouched. Just make sure it's a place your child can’t easily access,1ike on a high closet shelf.”

Some individuals are born with a gift for public speaking. ___1___ Do you want to be a good public speaker? Here are some principles you must master.
People want to listen to someone who is interesting, relaxed and comfortable. Too often when you stand up to give a speech, you focus on the “public” at the expense of the “speaking”. ___2___ Focus on the speaking. Talk directly to your audience, be yourself and make a connection.
Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People’s attention wanders constantly. Your goal is not to be a perfect public speaker. ___4___ And like everything else in life, that takes practice. Remember, even world champion athletes practice their skills on a consistent basis.
___5___It’s rare to hear someone say, “I wish that speaker had spoken longer. “On the other hand, you probably can’t count the times that you’ve thought, “I’m glad that talk is over. It seemed to go on forever!” So surprise your audience. Always make your presentation just a bit shorter than anticipated. It’s better to leave your listeners wishing for more than shifting restlessly in their seats waiting for your speech finally to end.

D. When it comes to public speaking, less is usually more.

Methods to dry, smoke and salt food were invented thousands of years ago.(干燥、烟熏和加盐的方法是几千年前发明的保存食物的方法)讲到了传统保存食物的方法。空格后Today, canning is one of the most popular methods of storing food.(今天,罐头是最流行的储存食物的方法之一)讲到了现代的事物保存方法。 那么A项The process of canning is much more recent.(装罐的过程是最近才开始的)很好地起到了过渡的作用。
The cold method is used for soft fruits and vegetables that could lose their shape or taste.(冷法是用来处理软的水果和蔬菜,它们可能会失去形状或味道)那么空格后应该将用热法来储存质地较硬的事物。那么D项Firmer fruits and most vegetables are usually cooked.(较硬的水果和大名数法节通堂是煮熟的)满足这一意义。故选D。
After the food has been placed in glass bottles, boiling water is poured into the bottles to about three centimeters below the top.(把食物放进玻璃瓶后,把开水倒进瓶子里,大约在瓶口以下三厘米处)可知这一句话是在讲如何制作罐头。 Then covers are placed on the bottles, but they are not turned all the way.(然后在瓶子上盖上盖子,但它们不会一直转动)具体讲瓶子里装好水后的下一步,就是盖上盖子,满足此处过渡。故选F。
In other words,a vacuum(真空)is created.(换句话说真空就形成了)我们可以得知,上一句是在讲如何创造真空。那么B项B.This makes a strong barrier to keep the air out.(这就形成了一个强大的屏障来阻止空气)满足制造真空的条件。故选B。
It is also a good way to store food for six months to a year, or even several years, in case of an emergency.(这也是一个很好的方法,以储存粮食半年至一年,甚至数年,以防紧急情况)可知,横线前一句应该是在讲罐头事物的保存时间,那么G项Canning allows your family to enjoy foods that might not come fresh throughout the year.(罐头可以让你的家人享受可能一年都不新鲜的食物)就是在讲罐头事物的保质期。故选G。

Twenty years ago the most common ambition of American children was to be a teacher, followed by working in banking and finance, and then medicine. But today's situation is quite different. (1)________ Instead they most commonly say they want to be a sports star, a pop star, or an actor-in other words, they hope to become a celebrity .
According to experts, young people desire these jobs largely because of the wealth and the fame. (2)_________ Let's take athletes and singers as an example. Their careers are short-lived. Many athletes' best time only lasts a few years and singers can have a very limited career. The field that was once the focus of their lives becomes something they have little or no involvement in. As a result, they'll have a feeling of worthlessness and a lack of control. (3) ________The truth is quite simple: they have been so far removed from it for so long.
In spite of these disadvantages, there is greater ambition than ever among young people to achieve that status. They are not satisfied just making a living-they want to be rich and famous. Globally, more and more TV shows provide talent competitions where winners can achieve their goals in just a few weeks or months. (4)______They unrealistically believe that this lifestyle is easily obtained and leads to great satisfaction.
While many people argue that there is nothing wrong with having such ambitions, others feel that this trend will finally lead to dissatisfaction as more and more people are unable to reach their goals. (5)________ That means they ignore the simple fact that great effort is needed before success. As a result, many people won't realize their childhood dreams, which could have a negative effect on their happiness.
A.The younger generation don't favor these professions any more.
B. In many ways this has been brought about by the celebrity culture.
C. Unfortunately, they do not always have a positive effect on people's life.
D. Besides, it can be difficult for them to adapt back to a normal everyday life.
E.People no longer have a sense of satisfaction once their goals have been achieved.
F.This quick way of gaining wealth and fame creates a celebrity culture among people.
G. The reason is that they don't realize it takes talent and hard work to be rich and famous.

由“Thieves already know you’re storing valuables,so upgrade your secret hiding places to ones that are harder to detect. Thieves often search drawers in the master bedroom but tend to leave kids’ rooms untouched. Just make sure it's a place your child can’t easily access,1ike on a high closet shelf.”
由“but they also make it easy for burglars to see inside your home”可知,但它们也让窃贼很容易看到你家里面的情况。
由“Whether you’re going away for two weeks or just a long weekend, ask a neighbor to check daily for flyers stuck in your front door. Foxy criminals have been known to leave pizza ads in doors to see how long it takes for residents to remove them.”
由“Burglars are often people you’ve seen before, like a serviceman working on your house. If a yard worker or unknown visitor uses the bathroom,he may open the window so he can gain entry later”可知,窃贼通常是你以前见过的人,就像一个在你家里工作的服务人员。
由“Operation Identification is a nationwide project that encourages people to mark their property to fight against burglary and theft.”
