Children start ut as natural scientists. Helping them enjy science can be easy; there’s n need fr a lt f scientific terms r expensive lab equipment. Firstly, listen t their questins. I nce visited a classrm f seven-year-lds t talk abut science as a jb. The children asked me “textbk questins” abut schling, salary and whether I liked my jb. When I finished answering, we sat in silence. Finally I said, “Nw that we’ve finished with yur lists, d yu have questins f yur wn abut science?”
A by raised his hand, “Have yu ever seen a grasshpper(蚱蜢)eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stmachache. Why?” This began a set f questins that lasted nearly tw hurs.
Secndly, give them time t think. Studies have shwn that, after asking a questin, adults typically wait nly ne secnd r less fr an answer, n time fr a child t think. When adults increase their “wait time” t three secnds r mre, children give mre lgical, cmplete and creative answers.

But in talking abut science, quick praise can signal that discussin is ver. Instead, keep things ging by saying, “That’s interesting” r “I’d never thught f it that way befre,” r cming up with mre questins r ideas.
Never push a child t think. It desn’t make sense; children are always thinking. What’s mre, this can turn a cnversatin int a perfrmance.
Lastly, shw; dn’t tell. Real-life impressins f nature are far mre impressive than any lessn children can learn frm a bk r a televisin prgram. Let children lk at their fingertips thrugh a magnifying glass(放大镜), and they’ll understand why yu want them t wash befre dinner.
    5. What des the underlined wrd “lists” in paragraph 1 refer t?
    A. Plans.B. Ideas.
    C. Textbk questins.D. Persnal difficulties.
    6. Hw can adults make children answer questins in a better way?
    A. By asking them t answer quickly.B. By giving them mre patience.
    C. By giving them a clue t the questin.D. By teaching them t think lgically.
    7. What shuld adults d t encurage children in a science discussin?
    A. Perfrm gd behavir.B. Give quick praise.
    C. Make the discussin shrter.D. Ask mre questins.

    A. Hw t help children enjy science.
