If you’re looking to start your own checklist of places to visit during your life, begin with our list of the top tourist attractions in the world.
Petra, Jordan
You may have an Indiana Jones feeling as you walk through a 1.2-kilometer-long narrow crack (裂缝) in the sandstone hills and get into a hidden city. First built over 2,000 years ago and lost to the outside world for 600 years, the city was only discovered in 1812.
Fantastic buildings are built directly into the red rock walls and are wonderfully preserved, just begging to be explored and photographed.
Grand Canyon, USA
The greatest natural attraction in the United States, the Grand Canyon is a key sight for all travelers planning their lifetime of adventures. Standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon, looking out over the carved landscape, will awaken your senses.
Stonehenge, England
Stonehenge is one of those places that makes you consider what went on here over 4,500 years ago. It’s long been a mystery to historians, and has caught the imagination of countless visitors. Despite the large number of tourists that stand on Stonehenge, the place still has a mystical feel.
Niagara Falls, Canada & USA
On the edge between the United States and Canada, these great falls have been drawing explorers and travelers for centuries. Just over an hour from the city of Toronto, Niagara Falls is easy to get to, and the town is a fun place to spend a night or two.
Walk up to the edge of the falls, wander along the paved walk (人行道) lining the gorge (峡谷) for different views, or take a boat tour for a close-up look at the water pouring over the lip of the gorge above you. For a bird’s-eye view, head up the Skylon Tower to look out over the falls.

When Ben was two, Mac gave him a little blue cup that was made in China and ever since the cup has become one of the most important things in Ben’s life. Mac never thought that the little cup would cause such a big problem. Ben became dependent on this cup because ever since he received the gift he would only drink water from the exact type of little blue cup. Over 12 years, Ben refused to drink water without the cup. In the past several years, the use of social media has grown in a way that no one could have guessed. It has turned some teenagers into celebrities and turned the famous into the infamous overnight.
A key feature of social media, however, is its volatility. Trends come and go, disappearing almost as quickly as they appeared. So, what were the key social media trends of 2022?
Short video apps such as TikTok and its Chinese equivalent (等同物) Douyin, took the world by storm. The Telegraph reported that TikTok was ranked 8th on Apple’s App store in April. And Douyin had more than 300 million domestic (国内的) monthly active users in June at home, CNBC said.
Why are these short videos-which are rarely longer than a few minutes—so popular? Jiang Yige, Singapore-based analyst at FengHe Fund Management, has a theory. “Short videos are just right to fill in the little gaps in our busy schedules,” he told CNBC.
These videos—apart from being very convenient—are important to teenagers because they allow them to express themselves, according to Teen Vogue.
Liza Koshy, a user of the US app Musically who has over 2 million followers, said,“ The sense of community that users of short video apps get is another appealing feature.”
Live streaming is a feature of our social media life that now seems as natural as sunrise. It’s a pretty neat idea: You can watch anyone, anywhere, live. However, China has taken live streaming to a whole new level. In China, more than 100 million viewers monthly watch a live streaming video. Forbes thought that a number of factors had led to the popularity of live streams. Among them is viewers’ ability to interact with unknown names.
However, the quick development of social media may be having side effects too. Fake news is one serious problem it causes. Materials shared on these platforms are often not checked for accuracy. The most basic content can be false and can mislead users one way or another. We use social media all the time; that doesn’t mean that we understand the influence it is having on us. We should be mindful of both the time we spend on it and its impact on our minds.
8.What does the underlined word “volatility” in Paragraph 2 possibly mean?
A.Being changeable. B.Being famous.
C.Being promising. D.Being popular.
9.According to Liza Koshy, why are short videos very popular?
A.They are very cheap.
B.They help people kill time.
C.They provide a sense of community.
D.They allow people to express themselves.
10.What do we know about social media?
A.The information from social media is totally reliable.
B.When it comes to social media, people only know short videos.
C.People can’t communicate with each other without social media.
D.There is still much room for social media to make improvement.
11.What is the author’s attitude to the quick development of social media?
A.Objective. B.Subjective
C.Supportive. D.Negative.

You might think of martial arts movies when you see people performing graceful moves down the river, all standing on a bamboo strip, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting.
Over 2,000 years ago, the high-quality wood, nanmu, in Guizhou was in great demand by the royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no better transportation, people had to stand on one log to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo’s lower price. Due to the skills it takes for one to master this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list this year.
Yang Liu, a 24-year-old inheritor of bamboo drifting, learned it at 7. “Usually, the bamboo under your feet is about 9 meters long, and the bamboo in your hands is about 5 meters. If the length or diameter of the bamboo is not long enough, it will not float. Keeping our feet firmly positioned on the narrow bamboo pole is the key, so we should fight against the current by constantly changing the angle. I lost my balance and fell in the water many times while practicing. Once I fell, I gave it another try until I knew how to handle the most difficult part.” she said.
The love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in winter cold and summer heat. As hanfu culture has been on the rise, Yang started wearing hanfu while performing, creating a more beautiful feel. In 2020, Yang began to post her videos on social media. “I'm extremely proud to get responses from viewers that bamboo drifting makes the line between what is possible and impossible unclear. It’s my mission to keep it alive and known to more people,” Yang Liu told China Daily.
12.What can be learned from the first two paragraphs?
A.The martial arts movie is a form of cultural heritage.
B.Nanmu was delivered to the north by land.
C.Bamboo was costly in Guizhou 2,000 years ago.
D.Bamboo drifting involves lots of skills.
13.What is the biggest challenge in bamboo drifting?
A.Finding the proper bamboo. B.Holding the bamboo firmly in hands.
C.Maintaining a fixed angle. D.Keeping balance.
14.What do the viewers think of bamboo drifting?
A.Unbelievable. B.Impossible. C.Confusing. D.Complicated.
15.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Transporting Bamboo down the River. B.Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guizhou.
C.Balancing with Grace. D.Yang Liu: a Creative Performer.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a boy of nine, I used to help Mrs. Long, a retired art teacher who lived across my home. She paid me very little for the help, but she taught me how to paint and promised me, “When Christmas comes, I shall have a present for you.”
I kept wondering what it would be. The boys I played with had baseball gloves, ice skates and bicycles. I hoped that Mrs. Long would buy any one of them for me.
“But it would hardly be ice skates,” I reasoned with myself. “An old woman like Mrs. Long wouldn’t know much about ice skates.”
I also ruled out the bicycle because she was just a retired art teacher in the local school and could not afford it.
On my last day at work, Mrs. Long said, “You’ve been a very good boy. On Christmas Eve I’ll make a present for you. Please come to my house and collect it.”
“Since she is going to have the present in her house, and since she will make it, unquestionably she is going to give me a pair of baseball gloves,” I thought. Actually, I became so convinced that I could imagine myself playing baseball with my friends in those gloves.
A day before the Christmas Eve, I could wait no longer and presented myself at the door of Mrs. Long’s house and said, “Can I have my present today, Mrs. Long?”
“I’ve been waiting for you,” she said, leading me into her house. She sat me in a chair, disappeared to another room, and in a moment stood before me holding a package which under no circumstances could hold a bicycle or a pair of skates, or even a baseball glove.
I lifted it from her hand and found it was extremely light.
“What is it?” I asked with disappointment on my face.
“A kind of magic,” Mrs. Long said. “It can give you whatever you dream of if you have learned how to use it.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Suddenly, curiosity replaced my initial disappointment.

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了世界各地的节日以及庆祝活动。
36.考查时态,语态和主谓一致。句意:自古以来,各地都有各种各样的节日和庆祝活动。由“since ancient times”可知,句子时态是现在完成时,且节日和庆祝活动是被举行,因此空格处是现在完成时的被动语态,即have/has been done,主语“Festivals and celebrations of all kinds”是复数,因此空格处是have been held。故填have been held。

46.Dear Chris,
I’m so glad to hear from you and to know that everything’s going on well with you.
In your last letter, you asked me about the students’ participation in labor practice in my school. I would like to share something with you.
The students in our school often take part in a variety of labor practices. Sometimes, we help our parents do some housework, which will relieve our parents’ burden. Besides, we participate in the labor in our school, such as cleaning the classroom, watering the plants and so on. What’s more, we go outside our school to do some work, enabling us to adapt to the society earlier.
As for me, I often go to the nursery house in our city and help the elderly, believing that will bring them happiness. What about you? Do you have the same experience?
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Jin

47.One possible version:
Suddenly, curiosity replaced my initial disappointment. Her words were enough to set my mind dancing with all kinds of possibilities. By the time I reached home, I had the box on my knees, tearing at the colored string that bound it. There in the box lay 20 colorful pencils and a collection of coloring paper drawn by Mrs. Long. The pictures were so beautiful that I fell in love with them immediately.
It was not until some years later that I realized the real importance of the gift. It was much more significant than a baseball glove or a pair of skates, which would just satisfy a temporary desire. But the great present Mrs. Long gave me opened a window to a totally new world. Her gift was exactly what I needed, and it reached me at the time when I was best able to comprehend it.
