Step 1 Vocabulary revision: days of the week
Help Ss recall the seven days in a week, showing the correct spelling on the screen. Then have Ss listen to four conversations. What days do the people talk about? Have them write the number of the conversation on the day of the week.
Audio script:
- Man: Do you sleep late on weekends?
Woman: Oh, no. I get up early on Saturdays.
Man: When do you get up?
Woman: At 4:30 A.M. I go to work at 5:30
- Woman: Let’s go to the movies this week.
Man: OK. When?
Woman: How about tonight?
Man: No, I’m busy tonight
Woman: Well, then tomorrow…Thursday.
Man: OK. Thursday is fine.
- Man: Do you have dinner with your family every night?
Woman: No. I go to school at night on weekdays, so I get home late.
Man: So do you have dinner with your family on the weekend?
Woman: Well, we always have dinner together on Sundays.
- Woman: Excuse me. When does the train come?
Man: Then train isn’t running tonight. It doesn’t run at night on Mondays.
Woman: Oh, no! I guess I need a taxi.
Play the audio program as many times as necessary for Ss to complete the task. Elicit the answers from the class. If there is disagreement, have Ss listen again, and repeat the conversations. For more able Ss, have them act out the dialogues.
Step 2 Conversation
The conversation introduces simple present questions about daily activities.
Set the scene. Have Ss look at the illustration on the screen and the names in the conversation. Ask:, “What are Jack and Amy talking about?” Then play the audio program while Ss listen. Play the audio program again, or model the conversation line by line. Ss listen and read, then look up and repeat. Have Ss practice the conversation in pairs. Have a few Ss act out the conversation for the class.
Conversation:
Jack: Let’s go to the park on Sunday.
Amy: OK, but let’s not oto early. I sleep late on weekends.
