Bran Castle originally dates back to the year 1212 and is mistakenly believed to be the home in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The author never visited this fortress, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, but it still attracts literature fans to its weakly-lit hallways for night tours and an annual Halloween party.

Last week,my sister and I were talking about how many of our friends had phones. My sister said she thought it was dumb that kids in high school had them, especially taking the phones to school, since most of your friends were at school anyway. As she said,“Why would they call you when they could see you in class?” I agreed with her.I mean,it’s not likely that your friends are going to call you when you’re in class!
But the next day after school, when two of her friends came over to our house,my sister told her friends she thought taking a phone to school was totally cool and she couldn’t wait to get one. When I reminded her that just the evening before she thought taking a phone to school was a dumb idea, she stared at me and if looks could kill,I’d be even dead!
When her friends left,I asked her if she really had changed her mind about wanting a phone to take to school.“No,”she said.“But both of my friends have phones and take them to school,so I didn’t want to tell them that I thought it was a dumb idea.”
You see,my sister just told her friends what she thought they wanted to hear.I think my sister works way too hard to fit in with her friends.Personally,I don’t want to work that hard to have friends.I mean, what would be so terrible about my sister believing one thing about kids having phones and her friends believing something different?Besides when your friends know where you stand in terms of how you feel or what you think is cool or uncool, they respect you.At least show respect for yourself by sticking up for what you believe in.And even if they don’t agree with you good friends will think you’re cool for being true to yourself.
4.What does the underlined word “dumb”(Para.1) most probably mean?
A.Cool. B.Smart. C.Silly. D.Common.
5.How did the sister feel when the author said what her sister really thought?
A.She was angry. B.She was excited.
C.She was satisfied. D.She was disappointed.
6.How is the passage developed?
A.Telling a story first and then arguing.
B.First to be general and then particular.
C.Listing examples and then summarizing.
D.Raising a question first and then analyzing.
7.Which does the author agree?
A.Good friends never lie to each other except white lies.
B.Seek common points while reserving differences.
C.Be true to yourself and good friends will respect you.
D.Good friends must have the same interest and views.

Gooch isn’t just encouraging children to read more. She’s also showing them that horseback riders can look like her.Online, she’s often referred to as the “Black Cowgirl”.“It feels amazing to be that kind of representation,” Gooch said.

China’s Yungang Grottoes (石窟) will complete the scanning of all the caves in five years, paving the way for the creation of digital versions that can withstand weathering and other real-world damage.
So far,the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Shanxi Province has completed three-dimensional scans of one-third of its Buddhist grottoes, according to the Yungang Grottoes Research Institute.“We’re racing against time,” said Ning Bo,director of the institute’s digitalization office,“Weathering is like cancer to grottoes, eating away at the sculptures year by year.Few technologies can prevent such progressive damage.”
Using three-dimensional laser (激光) scanning and multiplanar (多平面) reconstruction, the institute is working to capture the shapes, colors and other fine details of the grottoes and create millimeter-level digital archives for future study and preservation.“We hope to preserve the grottoes in digital form as much as possible,so people in the future will still have access to the information even if the grottoes fade away.” Ning said, adding that the digitalization will also allow the public to “visit” the grottoes more easily on their computer screens.
The digitalization project, which began in 2003 at the grottoes, still faces challenges posed by the caves’ enormous sizes, complicated structures and exquisite sculptures, according to the institute.“The Yungang Grottoes were built into a mountain, and so our team is actually scanning structures as huge as a mountain.Besides, the inner structures vary wildly from exotic domes to traditional Chinese architecture,” said the director.
The Yungang Grottoes, located in the city of Datong, has 45 major caves and more than 59,000 stone statues. With a grotto complex stretching about 1 km from east to west,it is one of the largest ancient grottoes in the country.
12.What does Ning Bo mean by saying “racing against time”?
A.Scanning the grottoes is an urgent task.
B.It is not an easy job to scan the grottoes.
C.He is dying because of a severe disease.
D.There is a deadline required by UNESCO.
13.Why are the Yungang Grottoes being scanned?
A.To keep them from being damaged.
B.To carry out a scientific experiment.
C.To preserve them for future generations.
D.To make them accessible via the Internet.
14.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The influence of the project.
B.The difficulties facing the team.
C.The beauty of the grottoes.
D.The structures of the statues.
15.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
A.Education. B.Technology.

SQRRR or SQ3R introduced by Francis P.Robinson is a reading comprehension method named for its five steps:survey, question, read, recite, and review.
Survey
The first step, survey or skim, advises that one should go through a chapter and note headings,sub-headings and other outstanding features. 1 ,but it provides an outline or framework for what will be presented. The reader should identify ideas and formulate questions about the content of the chapter.
Question
2 .For example, change headings and sub-headings into questions, and then look for answers in the content of the text.
Read (R)
Use the background work done with “S” and “Q” in order to begin reading actively. 3 .Passive reading,in contrast, results in merely reading without engaging with the study material.
Recite (R)
The second “R” refers to the part known as “Recite”.The reader should try to retrieve (取回) from memory what was learned in the same manner as telling someone else about the information. It is important that the reader use his/her own words in order to formulate and conceptualize the material.Try recalling and identifying major points (headings/sub-headings) and answers to questions from the “Q” step. 4 .
Review (R)
The final “R” is “Review”.Once you reach the end of the passage, say back to yourself what the point of the whole passage is—again, using your own words. 5 .Classrooms all over the world have begun using this method to better understand what they are reading.
A.Making meaning with time management
B.This survey step only takes 3-5 minutes
C.Arise questions about the content of the reading
D.This process suggests better understanding a topic
E.This recital step may be done either in an oral or written format
F.This means reading in order to answer the questions raised under “Q”
G.The method offers a more efficient and active approach to reading comprehension
