    Lemurs (狐猴) are cute animals that live n the island f Madagascar, the furth­largest island in the wrld. Lemurs have big eyes, lng nses, and lng tails (except fr the Indri) and live high in the trees f Madagascan frests. Lemurs are quite intelligent. They are the cusins f mnkeys and lk quite similar t mnkeys. They als swing thrugh trees and live in family grups.
    There are different species f lemurs. Sme lemurs (the Indri) sing like a whale, and sme (the Sifaka) walk like a ballet dancer. Sme lemurs are very small, like the Pygmy Muse Lemur which weighs nly 25—30 grams. Others, like the Indri, can weigh up t ten kilgrams. Sme lemurs are ncturnal,_being awake at night and sleeping during the day, and sme are nt ncturnal but diurnal. Generally, the smaller lemurs are ncturnal, while the bigger nes are diurnal. All the species are unique t Madagascar.
    Hwever, all f the lemurs are endangered species. Many species have already disappeared in the last few centuries. There are nt many lemurs left.     In the depths f the French Guianese rainfrest, there still remain unusual grups f indigenus (土著的) peple. Surprisingly, these peple live largely by their wn laws and their wn scial custms.     “I have a special lve fr the French Guianese peple. I have wrked there n and ff fr almst ten years,” says Gin. “I've been able t keep firm friendships with them. Thus I have been allwed t gain access t their living envirnment. I dn't see it as a lawless land. But rather I see it as an area f freedm.”
