As I sat at school, my best friend grabbed my phone and tried to unlock it. After a few guesses she said "What's your password?" "I'm not telling you," I responded. She begged, "I just want to look at your pictures.” She asked me why I was so protective of my phone. I tried to answer, but felt a little confused. No one else cared about that much, and it wasn't like I had anything to hide. I realized that people could learn whatever they wanted about me from my phone because of all the pictures and information I stored in it.
On the new mobile phone, there’s a fingerprint scanner as an optional precaution (预防措施) for those who want to use it. When my dad got the phone, the first thing I did was to put my fingerprint into his phone when he didn’t notice. The added security technology gave my dad a false sense of security. When I picked up his phone,he said,“Your fingerprint won’t work, only mine” with a smug (自以为是的) look on his face, which quickly disappeared when his phone “magically” opened for me. He looked worried as though the privacy of his phone was violated (侵犯). Then I showed him how I put my fingerprint into his phone when he wasn’t looking. What it proved to me is that people are so worried about privacy that a phone can sell for much more just for better security.
Let's go back to my original issue. I feel so protective of the information on my phone because we live in a world where we're constantly connected, and anyone can learn whatever he or she wants about us in just a minute. Our privacy can be violated immediately. I didn't believe my brother when he said "Welcome to the world of never being not connected" to me when I got my first phone, but that is exactly the world we live in today.
24.Why is the author so protective of her phone?
    A.Her phone has no password.
B.Her phone had been stolen before.
C.She has something to hide in the phone.
D.She fears that her privacy will be violated.
25.The author gives the example of the new mobile phone to prove that _______.
A.she often plays a trick on her father
B.her father cares little about his privacy
C.people prefer to pay more for better security
D.a fingerprint scanner is a great invention
26.From what the author's dad said, we know that he _______.
A.was confident of his phone's security
    B.made fun of his daughter
C.considered his fingerprint to be magical
D.didn't want his daughter to play his phone
27.The last paragraph implies that __________.
A.people should constantly change their phones
B.people are closely connected by technology
C.it's good that your information is available
D.one needs to change his password daily
    C
Scientists have developed a new type of smart bandage (绷带) that can signal the type of acterial (细菌) infection it's protecting, just like a traffic light, as well as release the right type of drugs on demand. The traffic light system works just like this:Green means no bacteria or a low concentration of bacteria, yellow means drug-sensitive (DS) bacteria responsive to standard ntibiotics (抗生素) and causes antibiotic release, and red means drug-resistant (DR) bacteria that need extra help to be wiped out.
In testing the bandage on mice, the research team was able to successfully treat both DS
and DR infections using the new method. However, the common methods of sensing resistance are limited by time, the requirement for professional personnel, and expensive instruments. Moreover, the abuse of antibiotics causes the accelerated (加速) process of bacterial resistance.
It's easy to see how a simple bandage and light could overcome some of these limitations. Treatment doesn't have to wait for a doctor to make a diagnosis (诊断), and the bandage can get the right sort of drugs applied at the earliest opportunity. What's more, the person wearing the bandage gets real-time feedback on what's happening with the infection, if there's an infection at all. The researchers say it offers numerous benefits over existing treatments that make use of light, including photodynamic therapy (疗法) or PDT.
We've been seeing quite a few upgrades to the traditional bandage in recent years, thanks to advances in science——like the nanofibre mesh (网格) that attracts bacteria and draws some of it out, speeding up the healing process. Then there's the novel bandage for treating burns, which stops bacteria from multiplying and lowers the risk of infection.
The more work that a bandage can do while it's protecting a wound, the better a bandage is. Efforts to improve bandages continue and now we've got a bandage that not only releases antibiotics, but also tells the patient exactly what's going on, too.
28.What is the smart bandage mainly designed to do?
    A.Avoid the use of antibiotics.
    B.Clear out harmful bacteria.
    C.Detect bacterial infections.
    D.Increase treatment options.
29.What is the advantage of the smart bandage?
A.It saves much time and cost.
B.It removes the risk of infection.
    C.It prevents the bacterial resistance.
    D.It improves doctor-patient relationship.
30.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A.Traditional bandages are out of use now.
B.More smart bandages will be developed.
C.Progress in science calls for more research.
D.People are urged to study medical science
31.What does the text focus on?
    A.A successful test on mice.
    B.A colour-changing bandage.
    C.Sensing drug-resistant bacteria.
    D.Preventing abuse of antibiotics.
    D
More attention is being paid to the air issue in London, especially with a continuing nvestigation into the death of Ella Kissi-Debrah, a 9-year-old girl who lived just meters from one of the capital's busiest roads. Ella died in February 2013 having suffered from many asthmatic attacks (哮喘发作) and had been taken to hospital for nearly 30 times in the three years prior to her death. She may become the first person in the UK for whom air pollution is listed as the cause of death.
Today low emission (排放) has helped reduce dangerous poisonous air in parts of the United Kingdom capital by 94 percent, according to an annual report from Transport for London (TFL). The transport authority said they had established the defined areas where access by some polluting vehicles is restricted or forbidden in Central London in February, which contributed mostly to the change.
The TFL report showed traffic on roads fell by half during lockdown. Figures showed a big increase in the number of people walking and cycling in London, with journeys made on foot or by bicycle up from 29 percent between January and March 2020 to 46 percent between March and June 2020.
TFL will spend at least 75 million pounds on walking and cycling programs across the capital over the next six months. About 88.5 kilometers of new or upgraded cycle lanes have been built or are under construction.
"This new data shows just how important walking and cycling have been in helping Londoners stay healthy and safe," TFL Streetspace delivery manager Helen Cansick said. "That's why it's crucial that we continue to invest to support walking and cycling, ensuring that the capital can become a healthier and more sustainable place for everyone."
32.What does Ella Kissi-Debrah’s death indicate?
A.Air pollution is a big cause of death
    B.Children often suffer from asthma.
C.Big cities are polluted more seriously.
D.Air pollution and its effect are severe.
33.What mainly contributed to the reduced poisonous air in parts of London?
A.Policy on lockdown. B.Change in transport.
    C.Low-emission zones. D.Reduction in economy.
34.What does the TFL report show?
    A.Short-distance journeys are more popular.
B.The traffic on roads increases a lot.
C.Walking and cycling are Londoners' first choice.
D.More Londoners choose to walk and ride.
35.What's the best title of this text?
    A.London's air is now cleaner.
    B.Traffic restrictions take effects.
C.Walking and cycling help stay healthy.
D.Air issue in London is gaining attention.

An anonymous (匿名的) person's rude note was sent to a struggling neighbor. Prior to receiving the unpleasant letter last month, Randa Ragland and her family had been facing a variety of tough challenges. Her husband had lost his job; she had been diagnosed (诊断) with some health issues; but worst of all, her 3-year-old son Jaxen had been diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma (神经母细胞瘤) just before his birthday. Jaxen had already suffered seven surgeries and been hospitalized more than 20 times.
Being a desperate Mom, Ms. Ragland had to care for her little one attentively and tried to get in contact with the"best doctor in the world for this condition". She and her husband travelled all the way state after state to give her little one a fighting chance. Exhausted and worn out, she found the sparkle (火花) of the hope for lighting the messy situation was to go out.
On top of all of this, she opened her mailbox in Pinson, Alabama, to find an unaddressed note from a neighbor criticizing her for the state of her lawn (草坪). The note said that since her yard had fallen into disrepair, its appearance was "affecting the resale value"of their homes and that Ragland needed to "do better."
At first, she felt a little angry. But so much had been going on with her and her family. She just didn't have the energy to be more negative.

    Good morning everyone,
I'm delighted to make a speech before I go back to China next month.I really want to express my sincere gratitude for your generous help as well as the great kindness! During the short time, not only have I enhanced my English, but also I have learnt about abundant knowledge about cross-culture.I'm blessed with the chance to study further here with you, which is a memorable time in my life!Besides, you are welcome to China to experience rich Chinese culture and I'll be the guide.
    That's all. Thank you!

    读后续写:
Unexpectedly, her post was shared by dozens of people. It spread throughout the community. The very next day, a team of lawn care service members showed up to take care of her grass; dozens of volunteers showed up with tools to clear away the rubbish; and people brought groceries from the store, while others tidied up the house. All of these volunteers joined together to form a group devoted to helping the Ragland family.
Ms.Ragland had never met any of these people before in her life. The sympathy and enthusiasm of the volunteers had an enormous impact to relieve her struggles. No one had imagined that the note to the struggling neighbor later led to an outpouring of kindness from across the community and the country. Needless to say, Ms. Ragland was filled with so much gratitude and her life was actually lit up by the note.

W: I think there's too much traffic on the road today. It's not safe to ride in traffic.
M: Well, look, I'm driving downtown. Shall I give you a ride?
    W: OK.Thanks.

    Text 4
    W: You're looking well, David!
M: I played tennis last month, but I stopped. I've done a lot of swimming instead.
W: It shows! I'm thinking of taking up basketball again.

    Text 5
M: Have you seen my mobile phone anywhere?
W: I saw it on the bed earlier
M: I've used it since then. Did I put it on the desk afterwards?
W: You often leave it on the sofa when you're watching TV.
Oh,you're right. Look, you couldn't see it because of the books.

    Text 6
    W: So, I hear you're working at Lorenzo's.
    M: Yeah
W: What's it like to work with him? I heard he's a real tough boss to work for.
M: Mm...it isn't easy working for such a perfectionist, but he is so creative, especially with his desserts. I feel like I'm learning a lot just by watching him. Besides, the money is good. How about you? Are you still at the Magic Pan?
W: Yeah.I like the atmosphere in the kitchen there, although the food they serve isn't really the kind I want to be making, and I'm definitely not learning much.
    Text 7
W: This is the worst movie I've ever seen. Who recommended it to you? Probably Jane, right?
M: I really don't remember but it was definitely someone from our office. We don't have to see it until the end if you don't want.
W: So what can we do now?
M: Well, there's a great new Mexican restaurant nearby. Would you like to try it? We could go there for lunch now.
W: That sounds great. I love Mexican food.
M: Maybe after lunch we could take a walk in the park.
W: Yeah.I haven't been to the park for a long time. And it's supposed to be really nice out.
M: Right. We'll spend a few hours quietly relaxing.

    Text 8
M: It sure is cold today.Does the building not have any central heating?
W: Are you wearing enough clothes? I feel warm and comfortable.
M: Well,I wanted to put a sweater on, but I wasn't sure it was smart enough. I'm still getting to know the dress rules in this company.
W: A lot of people are pretty relaxed about the rules! You're still new;you'll get used to them.
M: Well, I'll be more productive if I feel more comfortable. My fingers are so cold that they are difficult to move today! I'm typing much slower than usual.
W: Poor you! Why don't you check the Lost and Found? There might be a spare sweater you can wear for today.
M: Well, I plan to buy one in the supermarket nearby during the lunch break.

    Text 9
    W: I need a non-smoking room,please.
M: Fine. So today is the 17th of June and is that just the one night?
W: I will check in tomorrow and I might stay for four nights, but I'll just book for three because I'm not sure yet.

M: OK.We have rooms available, and you can just extend your stay later if you decide to. Do you have any special requirements?
W: If possible, I'd like a room with a view of a river.
M: I'm afraid there isn't one available till the 19th. But we have rooms with a view of a park on a hill. And we can move you then if you like.
    W: OK.
M: Well, breakfast is served in the Washington Room between seven and ten. You'll need to take your registration card with you. If you'd prefer to have breakfast served in your room, just complete the request form and hang it on the outside of the door.
W: Is there a good connection to send e-mails in the room?
M: Well, for some reason the wireless signal isn't very good in the bedrooms, so we usually advise guests to go to the lounge. Alternatively, there are PCs in the hotel's business center on the fourth floor.
    Text 10
Welcome to the museum. Before we go, let me just give you a taste of what we have here.
Well, for one thing, we have a fine collection of the twentieth and twenty-first century paintings, many by very well-known artists. I'm sure you'll recognize several of the paintings. This is the gallery that attracts the largest number of visitors, so it's best to go in early in the day before the crowds arrive.
Then there are the nineteenth-century paintings and sculptures. The museum was opened in the middle of that century, and several of the artists each donated one work.
Then there's the collection of coins. Most of them were discovered by farmers digging their gardens, and donated to the museum!
And our clay and glass were left to the museum by its founder. And in the terms of his will, we're not allowed to add anything to that collection: he believed it was perfect in itself, and we don't see any reason to disagree!
