As we all know, doctors are terrible pilots. They don’t listen because they already know it all. I was
lucky: I became a pilot in 1970, almost ten years before I graduated from medical school. I didn’t realize
then, but becoming a pilot makes me a better surgeon. I loved flying. As I flew bigger, faster planes, and in
worse weather, I learned about crew resource management(机组资源管理), or CRM, a new idea to make
flying safer. It means that crew members should listen and speak up for a good result, regardless of
    positions.
I first read about CRM in 1980. Not long after that, an attending doctor and I were flying in bad
weather. The controller had us turn too late to get our landing ready. The attending doctor was flying; I was
safety pilot. He was so busy because of the bad turn, he had forgotten to put the landing gear (起落架) down.
He was a better pilot — and my boss — so it felt unusual to speak up. But I had to: Our lives were in danger.
I put aside my uneasiness and said, "We need to put the landing gear down now!" That was my first real
lesson in the power of CRM, and I’ve used it in the operating room ever since.
CRM requires that the pilot/surgeon encourage others to speak up. It further requires that when
opinions are from the opposite, the doctor doesn’t overreact, which might prevent fellow doctors from
voicing opinions again. So when I’m in the operating room, I ask for ideas and help from others. Sometimes
they’re not willing to speak up. But I hope that if I continue to encourage them, someday someone will keep
    me from “landing gear up”.
    24. What does the author say about doctors in general?
    A. They pretend to be good pilots.
    C. They like flying by themselves.
    B. They are unwilling to take advice.
    D. They are quick learners of CRM.
    25. When did the author deepen his understanding of the power of CRM?
    A. when he saved the plane by speaking up
    C. when his boss landed the plane too late
    B. when his boss operated on a patient
    D. when he was in charge of a flying task
    26. What does “landing gear up” in the last paragraph probably mean?
    A. Listening to what fellow doctors say
    B. Overreacting to different opinions
    C. Following flying requirements
    D. Making a mistake that may cost lives
    27. Which of the following can best summarize the main idea of this passage?
    A. The Making of a Good Pilot
    B. CRM: A New Way to Make Flying Safe
    C. A Pilot-Turned Doctor
    D. Flying Makes Me a Better Doctor

The world's largest iceberg is floating toward South Georgia in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Scientists
fear the iceberg could crash into the island and block major feeding areas for a large population of penguins
    第 4 页 共 10 页

and seals. If the iceberg hits the island, it could prevent the penguins and seals from reaching food supplies.
The huge iceberg is named A68a. It broke away from Antarctica's Larsen C Ice Shelf in 2017. Satellite
images show the iceberg has remained in one piece. It is estimated to be about 150 kilometers long and 48
kilometers wide. It is traveling at one kilometer per hour and is on a path to hit South Georgiain around 30
    days.
This is the time of year when seals and penguins spend a lot of time caring for their young. The
distance that parents have to travel to find food is crucial. That means they have to go a lot further or go
around the iceberg to find sources of food.
Ecologists say an iceberg crash would also disturb materials settled on the seabed, possibly polluting
the surrounding seas. As the iceberg melts, it would also release large amounts of fresh water into the ocean.
This could affect kril(l 磷虾)populations that are a major source of food for the island's wildlife. The iceberg
could remain for up to 10 years and change the area's whole ecosystem. These are globally significant
populations of these species. If these species fail in this particular area, then the numbers globally are going
    to go down quite dramatically.
Professor Geraint Tarling, an ecologist at the British Antarctic Survey, said, "The breaking off of
icebergs from Antarctica is a natural process. But the process is changing with climate change. What we're
seeing with models and some observations now is that this is happening at an increasing rate. And so, this
might become more of a usual thing in the future."
    28. Why are the scientists worried about the coming iceberg crash?
    A. It will bring extremely cold weather.
    B. It will destroy the feeding areas of the animals.
    C. It will prevent animals from moving to other places.
    D. It will put wildlife on the island at risk of starving.
    29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
    A. The importance of the iceberg.
    B. The characteristic of the iceberg.
    C. The traveling speed of the iceberg.
    D. The forming process of the iceberg.
    30. What damage can an iceberg crash bring according to paragraph 4?
    A. Using up much fresh water.
    B. Polluting the surrounding farms.
    C. Affecting the number of certain species.
    D. Changing the world's ecosystem.
    31. How does Tarling think of the breaking off of icebergs from Antarctica?
    A. It may slow down in the near future.
    B. It has a great influence on the climate.
    C. It may become common in the future.
    D. It helps scientists conduct a sea study.

The last few months have seen record numbers of us working from home, which begs the question: are
    offices still needed?
The likelihood is that you or a family member may have spent at least some time working from home
since lockdown began. According to Finder. com, a huge percent of us were working from home, which
has led commentators to name the last few months a mass-work-from-home experiment.
Many people soon noticed positives such as increased productivity as a result of no office distractions,
and more free time because there’s no need for commuting. For more, parents in particular, the ability to
work from home with flexible hours has been a huge positive. Home working also cuts pollution levels
due to fewer of us relying on the daily commute and would save companies the costs of renting office space.
Some argue the shift to remote working is long overdue, with broadband technology now widely
available and an ever-increasing number of people balancing working with childcare.
“Hopefully it will show employers who were resistant that it is possible to work effectively from home,”
says Mandy Garner, managing editor of Workingmums.co.uk. Mandy adds that flexible working was
regarded mainly as a bit of a favour done to mums. There was little research about it. Now we have
    countless studies showing the benefits.
A key concern, however, is loneliness, with Finder. com reporting 19 percent of remote workers were
experiencing this. Even with video calls, it is difficult to recreate the buzzing dynamic of an office. Many
people also have a daily battle with poor Wi-Fi. And there’s the challenge of switching off once the
working day is over—an office creates a physical and mental line between work and home, which can be
easily blurred(变得模糊) when working from home.
The future of offices is uncertain but with the benefits—to employees and employers—of remote working,
it may be that a real shift has taken place and we won’t be going back to work in the same way again.
    32. What do we know about working from home?
    A. It was resisted by employees.
    B. It can result in more distractions.
    C. It may lead to higher efficiency.
    D. It brings about broadband technology.
    33. What advantage does working in offices have over working from home?
    A. It will keep employees free from loneliness.
    B. It may have the challenge of switching off.
    C. It can balance working with childcare.
    D. It can build a line between work and home.
    34. What is the author’s attitude toward remote working?
    A. Positive.
    B. Sympathetic.
    C. Disapproving.
    D. Indifferent.
    35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A. The Benefits of Remote working

    B. The End of the Office
    C. A Mass-work-from-home Experiment

    Dear Eric:
How is everything going these days? The annual “Campus Culture Week” activity held in our school

    参考范文:
Good morning, everyone! It is my honor to be here to share with you my opinions on what to
    learn in senior high school.
In the coming three years, your school life will be challenging. First, you should learn to
learn efficiently. Personally, I used to try effective methods to achieve my academic goals.
Developing a good habit is also of importance. It really benefited me a lot to preview lessons, get
actively involved in class, and review what had been taught after class. In addition, you should
learn how to get along well with others. In school, I respected teachers and was friendly to
    classmates.
Finally, you should take part in sports and outdoor activities frequently. They were really
helpful to build up my body ad enrich my school life.
No pains, no gains. I am sure that with great efforts, you will enjoy a colorful and fruitful life
    here. Thank you!
    听力原文
    (Text 1)
W:Hello. Can I try on the skirt over there?
M:Certainly. Do you mean the brown skirt with yellow flowers?
W:No, the pink one with white flowers.
    (Text 2)
W:Excuse me. Could you tell me how to get to the train station?
M:Just go down Market Road for two blocks and turn left. It’s next to a church, on First Street.
    W:I see. Thanks.
    (Text 3)
M:Two hours ago, I saw Jim in his office. Is he home yet?
    1

W:No, he said he would be back at 4, but it’s already 5 o’clock.
    (Text 4)
M:Hi Jane. How is your new neighbor Miss Green? Is she quieter than your last neighbor?
W:Well, I feel like I am living next to a dancing hall now.
    (Text 5)
M:Why do you always look out of the window during the math class, Meg? Maybe you don’t like
    math.
W:I just don’t know what you’re talking about.
M:Then why do you look out of the window? Do you think math is boring?
    W:No, I don’t. I like math a lot.
    (Text 6)
W:How do you feel about meeting Sarah’s parents?
M:I’m worried about making a bad impression. I find it difficult to get along with people straight
    away.
    W:But you’re a DJ, aren’t you?
M:Yeah, but it’s easy for me to hide behind my music desk at work. I’m not very good at making
    conversations in public.
W:What are you most nervous about?
M:Well, I gave up studying to become a DJ, and I don’t think Sarah’s parents will be satisfied with
that. Also, I changed my hair style last week, and they’ll probably be shocked by that.
W:How are you going to try and make a good impression?
M:Well, I’m going to wear smart clothes. And I’ll take her mom some flowers.
    (Text 7)
M:This is a wonderful pie. Is it homemade?
W:Yes, it is. But I didn’t make it. Jack did.
M:I didn’t know your husband cooked.
W:Every week he makes something wonderful. He makes great fresh bread. Sometimes we give
    some to our neighbors.
M:What else does your amazing husband do?
W:He makes the dinner every night.
M:Really?! I don’t even know how to fry an egg!
W:Jack even does the washing. I spend longer hours traveling from my home to my office and
spend fewer hours at home, so he doesn’t mind.
M:Yes, our company is a little far from your home. Who does the cleaning?
W:We both do. That way it only takes a small part of Saturday.
    (Text 8)
    W:Can I help you?
M:Hi. I think there should be two rooms booked for us in the names of John Smith and May Hunter.
W:Umm, just a moment. Yes, two single rooms?
M:That’s right. We’re attending the “Sun, Sea and Sand” meeting. Does that mean we get a discount?
W:Yes. People for the meeting will get a ten percent discount here and in some museums. OK. Here
are your room keys. Ms. Hunter is in Room 1101 and Mr. Smith, you are in Room 1106.
M:Thank you. By the way, do you have a map of New York? We want to go out for dinner later.
    W:Yes, here you are.
    2

M:And do you know any good places to eat?
W:Well, do you like Italian food? There are some Italian restaurants.
M:Sounds great. Italian food is my favorite.
    (Text 9)
W:Hello and welcome to Amazing Adventures. Today we have a scientist Dr. Ken Roberts, who
studies storms with us. Now, Dr. Roberts, you’re what some people call a “storm hunter”. Can
you tell us what that is?
M:Yes. A storm hunter’s someone who follows storms like tornadoes to study them.
W:Interesting. Can you tell us more about what sort of things you do?
M:Certainly. Well, for example, if I want to study tornadoes, then I usually follow them in my car.
That way, I can get close enough to get measurements with my instruments.
W:Do you have any studies planned for the future?
M:Well, if I get a chance, I’ll try to film the inside of a tornado and publish the pictures in a magazine
so that people can know it.
    (Text 10)
Now, listen carefully! I want to tell you about a new TV quiz show for children. It’s called
Answer That, and it will be on channel five at 4:00 every Thursday. It will be just like the popular
adult quiz show on the same channel on Monday afternoon. I’m sure you’ve all seen that. Every
week there will be 48 children on the program. They will be in 8 teams, and each team will have
6 children. The questions will be easy at the beginning of the quiz and then they will get more
difficult. They will all be about films, music and TV. So it has nothing to do with your science
knowledge or whether you’re good at sports or not. In the end there will only be one team left —
the winners. There will be some great prizes. Last week, the winners got a mobile phone. This
week the winners will all get a new camera. Everyone loves taking photos. Next week the first
prize is a computer for everyone. If you would like to be on Answer That, then call 05735 789
    655. Just give your name, age and school address, so that we can fill in the application form for
you. And maybe you will be on TV soon. OK, that’s all for me. Thank you for listening. And I
wish you all a good night.
