“Oh my God! That blue V-neck T-shirt looks so good and it’ll perfectly go with my jeans.” Many times we fall in love with an article of clothing, but after looking at its price we start having second thoughts — whether to buy it or not. Don’t worry. Here we can help you solve this problem by listing four stores!
    * ASOS
ASOS was founded in 2000 in London. As one of the UK’s largest and independent online fashion clothing shops, it offers more than 850 brands (品牌) as well as its own jeans, dresses, shirts and shoes — you name it and it gets it. You can even look at its own magazines to get style and clothing advice.
    * Nautica
Nautica was founded in 1983 in New York City by clothing designer David Chu and a partner. It offers not only men’s clothing but also women's and kids', along with some home collection. It serves over 75 countries.
    * Gap
Gap was founded in 1969 by Donald Fisher and Doris F. Fisher in San Francisco, California. If you’re looking for clothes and personal care products, do stop by this site. Its products are available to buy in over 90 countries with about 3,300 stores. It even provides free shipping on orders over $50. You are advised to sign up for its Gap card.
    * Topshop
Topshop was started in 1964 in the basement of a department store. It now has around 500 shops worldwide, about 300 of which are in the UK. It ships its products to over 100 countries. It offers students discounts and gift cards to make shopping easier for them.
    1. Why does the author list the four clothing shops?

    B. They’re all designed for teens.
    C. They were all founded in the UK.
    D. They all have a history of over 20 years.
    2. What can we learn about the four shops?
    A. Nautica is especially preferred by little kids.

The next important date in the history of photography (摄影) was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his picture you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest thing. This kind of photo was called Daguerreotype.
Soon, other people began to use Daguerre’s way. Travelers brought back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of famous buildings, cities and mountains.
In about 1840, photography was developed. Then photographers could take pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of film and other machines. But this did not stop them, for example, some in the United States worked so hard. Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike

Earlier that day, Riley had run into his pals (朋友) who were spending the day at the Happy Dog Café & Boutique, and wanted to be with them. Therefore, as soon as he was alone, the dog lifted the gale latch (插销) and began the mile-long walk to the doggy daycare.
When Tonia returned a short time later, she found the backyard empty and the gate wide open. Fortunately, before she had time to fear, her husband called to let her know that Riley was safe and having the time of his lifeat his favorite daycare.
According to Teresa McCarter, owner of the centre, a customer had found Riley patiently sitting outside, just waiting to be let in. No sooner had Teresa opened the door than the golden retriever (猎犬) ran in to greet 26 of his best friends, who all seemed as thrilled to see him.
Tonia was not surprised that Riley knew exactly how to get to the daycare, given that he has been going there since he was a puppy. She was, however, amazed that he loved it enough to escape from the house. Though the Mostellers offered to pick Riley up, Teresa decided that if Riley had made the effort to get to the daycare on his own, the least she could do was allow him to enjoy a nice day with his pals.

Recently, I came across an interesting article on the differences between British English and American English. I had a lot of fun reading it and thinking of as many differences as I could as an American.
Their cars have “bonnets (发动机罩)”, while ourselves have “hoods”. They park their cars in a “car park” while we leave ours in a “parking lot”. Our “cookies” are their “biscuits”, while their “rubbers” are our “erasers”.
Then there are the food words. Would you want to eat something called “Toad in the Hole” or “Bangers and Mash” or “Spotted Dick”? I’m here to report they are all very tasty. There are American equivalents (相等物),of course. We’ve got “Shoofly Pie”, “Chicken Fried Steak” and “Mississippi Mud Pie”. What they call “crisps” is what we call “potato chips” and when we ask for “chips” in England we will get what we know at home in America as “French fries”.
They find it hysterical that we call the “toilet” the “bathroom” and they really double over (弯腰) with laughter when we ask for the “restroom”. American ladies in England who ask for the “little girl’s room” or the “powder room” will be met with blank stares. A “fag” is a “cigarette” in the UK, which can lead to endless confusion for British visitors looking for a cigarette in America. Americans on the other hand are endlessly confused by English signs put up over doorways saying “Way Out”. We Americans walk on the sidewalk not the pavement. “Pavement” in America is the actual cement (水泥) the sidewalk is made of.
    12. What do British people call French Fries?
    A. Crisps. B. Shoofly.
    C. Mississippi Mud Pie. D. Chips.
    13. The examples given at the end of the passage mainly show that ________.
    A. Americans don’t like dealing with the British.
    B. English signs are very hard for people to understand.
    C. Americans and the British may find it hard to understand each other.
    D. American English is very different from British English.
    14. What does the understand word “hysterical” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A. difficult B. funny C. perfect D. normal
    15. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Some differences between American English and British English.
    B. Some similar habits between Americans and the British.
    C. Different communicating ways between Americans and the British.
    D. Different body languages between Americans and the British.
D 13. C 14. B 15. A
根据文章第三段“What they call “crisps” is what we call “potato chips” and when we ask for “chips” in England we will get what we know at home in America as “French fries”. (他们所说的“crisps”就是我们所说的“potato chips”,当我们在英国要“chips”时,我们会得到我们在美国国内所知道的“French fries”)”可知,英国人称薯片为“chips”。故选D。
    【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Americans on the other hand are endlessly confused by English signs put up over doorways saying “Way Out”. (另一方面,美国人对挂在门口的英文标牌“Way Out”感到困惑不已)”可推知,文末举例主要说明美国人和英国人可能会发现很难相互理解。故选C。
    【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词所在句“They find it hysterical that we call the “toilet” the “bathroom” and they really double over (弯腰) with laughter when we ask for the “restroom”. (他们觉得我们称“toilet”为“bathroom”是hysterical的,当我们问“restroom”时,他们真的笑得前仰后合)”可推知,当作者他们称“toilet”为“bathroom”时,英国人笑得弯腰,从而推知,英国人认为作者对于卫生间的称呼非常好笑,画线词“hysterical”意为“有趣的”。故选B。
    【15题详解】
主旨大意题。纵观全文,再根据文章第一段“Recently, I came across an interesting article on the differences between British English and American English. I had a lot of fun reading it and thinking of as many differences as I could as an American. (最近,我看到一篇关于英式英语和美式英语差异的有趣文章。作为一个美国人,我读了这本书,思考了尽可能多的不同之处,觉得很有趣)”可推知,本文讲述了作者偶然看到一篇文章说美式英语和英式英语的不同,令他感到很有趣,他针对美式英语和英式英语之间的一些差异展开了说明。故选A。
    Five tips for safe running
We all know that exercise is good for our health. But some kinds of exercise may be better than others. Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems.
Running is good exercise, but it can be hard on the body. ____16____
Take it easy. Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries (受伤) when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed. ____17____
Listen to your body. Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly (意外地). ____18____
They may include body aches, sore muscles (肌肉) and pain that does not go away.
____19____ There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoe that offers the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.
Take good notes. Take time after each run to write down what you did and how you felt. Look for patterns, things that happen over again. These notes will help you find the best exercise for you.
Cross train. As we said earlier, running is hard on your body. So physical fitness experts suggest some form of cross training to improve muscle balance and to help you stay injury free. They say, besides running, swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises. ____20____
    A. Get good running shoes.
    B. Here are five ideas to reduce the risk of injury.
    C. Muscles and joints (关节) need time to recover.
    D. Running may also help you live longer
    E. These exercises are easier on the body.
    F. Usually, there are warning signs.
    G. As advertisements for the running shoe Nike say, “just do it.”
B 17. C 18. F 19. A 20. E
根据下文各个段落的小标题“Take it easy(放松)”;“Listen to your body(倾听身体的声音)”;“Take good notes.(做好笔记)”;以及“Cross train.(交叉训练)”,可知此处要总说减少受伤的可能性的方法,之后进行分说,B选项“Here are five ideas to reduce the risk of injury.(这里有五个降低受伤风险的方法。)”
根据空前“The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed.(身体需要时间来适应距离或速度的增加。)”
根据空前“Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly (意外地).(大多数跑步损伤并非意外发生。)”;以及空后“They may include body aches, sore muscles (肌肉) and pain that does not go away.(它们可能包括身体疼痛、肌肉酸痛和无法消除的疼痛。)”可知,此空承上启下,F选项“Usually, there are warning signs.(通常,有警告征兆。)”
空格处是本段的主题句,根据空后“There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoe that offers the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.(没有一双最好的鞋适合每个跑步者。你应该找到最适合你的鞋,为你的脚提供最佳支撑。更重要的是,你应该每隔500到800公里更换一次鞋子。)”可知本段在讨论要买双好跑鞋, A选项“Get good running shoes.(买双好跑鞋)”能够概括本段大意,可作为本段的主题句,故选A。
    【20题详解】
根据空前“They say, besides running, swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises.(他们说,除了跑步,游泳、瑜伽和骑自行车都是很好的锻炼。)”

    They don’t mean it
Our family moved here from China two years ago, and we thought we were pretty well adjusted to American ways. This year my parents decided to give a party on Chinese New Year and invite some of our American friends.
The party went pretty well. Our guests were amazed at the flavor of all the special foods. After the dinner, they thanked us for showing them what a real Chinese New Year dinner was like.
“I loved the dishes. You and the girls must have spent hours doing all the work!” Mrs. O’Meara said to my mother.
“The girls helped with the cutting and I’m sorry they did such a terrible job.” said Mother.
I heard a little gasp(倒吸气) from my friend Kim O’Meara, who stared wide-eyes at Mother. When I asked what the matter was, she told me she just didn’t understand why my mother said so.
I had to laugh. “She doesn’t mean it! It’s just the way she talks.”
Seeing her still confused look, I went on explaining, “In China, parents consider it good manners to deny praises about their children. Otherwise, it would be the same as bragging(自夸).” Kim seemed a little hesitant, but she nodded anyway.
That Easter, the O’Mearas invited our family for dinner. Mrs. O’Meara cooked a huge ham which we enjoyed a lot. As Mrs. O’Meara started cutting up the cake for dessert, Mother said, “I’m not sure if I can eat one more bite. That was the best ham I’ve ever tasted!”
“Aw, that ham was terrible,” said Kim. “I bet you could do a lot better, Mrs. Yang.”
    注意:1. 续写短文词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。
    Paragraph 1:
There was a stunned (震惊的) silence around the table.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
I finally knew how Kim had misunderstood what I had said.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】There was a stunned(震惊的) silence around the table. Kim was on the receiving end of a cold stare from Mrs. O’Meara, whose face reddened with embarrassment. I was also shocked at my friend’s mean remark. Clearing my throat, I finally asked, “What made you talk like that to your mother?” Kim whirled around, seemingly furious“But you were the one who told me that saying nice things about your own family was the same as bragging!” she stuttered. “I was just trying to act modest!”
I finally knew how Kim had misunderstood what I had said.“Listen, Kim,” I took her hands in mine to calm her down, “Chinese parents might say critical things about their children to show modesty but young people are always expected to be respectful to the elders.” Hearing this, Kim sighed deeply, her cheeks flushed. The awkward silence was soon dispelled as the misunderstanding was erased. Drooping her head, Kim apologized for her impolite behavior. Mrs. O’Meara winked at her, joking, “That’s all right. We know you didn’t mean it!”
①道歉:apologize to sb for sth /make an apology to sb
    ②冷静:calm down/stay calm
③尊重:be respectful to sb/show respect for sb
    ①尴尬:reddened with embarrassment /embarrassed
    ②震惊的:stunned /astonished/ amazed

[高分句型2] But you were the one who told me that saying nice things about your own family was the same as bragging!” she stuttered.
