Online services are managed by a host system that maintains a base of information available to satellite users. Users of so-called “dumb” terminals (i.e. those without processing capability) simply access the information base via programs stored in the system. Personal computer (PC) users typically access the host (主机) through a modem (调制解调器). A PC software program serves as an interface (接口) between the server and a PC, allowing the user to operate through the online system and select different databases using a keyboard or a mouse.
National and regional online systems usually have local telephone numbers that PC modems can call to access either a local information base or an indirect long-distance connection, thus reducing long-distance telephone fees. Some online systems allow users to copy large volumes of information onto a local memory storage device, which also reduces the time user is connected to the online system.
Besides offering a great number of different information bases, ranging from full-text journal libraries to reports of missing children, online services allow users to, for example, reserve airline tickets, buy stocks, purchase goods, and communicate with other users. In exchange for the service, users usually pay a monthly membership fee. They may also pay to connect to various databases on the service or to download information.

In recent years, many Americans of both sexes and various ages have become interested in improving their bodies. They have become devoted to physical fitness. The need to exercise has almost become compulsive (禁不住的) with many persons who have a strong desire to be more physically fit.
By nature, Americans are enthusiastic (充满热情的) about their hobbies and pastimes. They apply this enthusiasm to jogging/running. As a result, there are running clubs to join and many books and magazines to read about running.
The desire to be physically fit is explained by a “passion” for good health. The high rate of heart attacks in the 1960s caused an increase on the part of the public in improving the human body. Middle-aged men especially suffer from heart attacks. Thus, they are one group more strongly interested in physical exercise. In fact, many doctors encourage their patients to become more physically active, especially those who have sedentary jobs. It is interesting to note that the rate of heart attacks began to decrease in the 1970s and it is still decreasing. Physical fitness currently enjoys a favored role in the United States. It is a new “love” that many Americans have cherished. Will it last long? Only time can tell-- or until another“new passion”comes along.

In the United States, teaching is very important. If teachers do not teach well, students complain. If many students do not understand, people think that the teacher does not do a good job. The teacher has big responsibility to make sure students understand. In a sense, students are consumers and the teacher is offering services.
Students have the right to evaluate their teachers, and they usually do so at the end of each course. That evaluation includes lots of aspects of teaching, such as explanation, preparation, using good examples, answering questions, and organization of classes.
Students are supposed to read required textbooks and recommended books before classes. Without reading them, they will find it very difficult to understand the class. Basic courses on doing research and writing papers are taught at the beginning of the program. They teach things very concretely(具体地) and clearly. Students are expected to apply what they have learned to their studies.
Classes are usually divided into lectures and seminars. There are some lecture classes, where the teacher just gives a lecture, and students ask questions at the end. Most graduate level classes are lectures and discussions. Participating in discussions is very important. Higher level classes involve very little lecturing. They emphasize discussion and presentation by the students.

Life really should be one long journey of joy for children born with a world of wealth at their feet.
Internationally famous child doctor Robert Coles is the world’s top expert on the influence of money on children. He has written a well-known book on the subject, “The Privileged Ones,” and his research shows that too much money in the family can cause as many problems as too little. “Obviously there are certain advantages to being rich,” says the 53-year-old doctor, “such as better health, education and future work prospects. But most important is the quality of family life. Money can’t buy love.”
It can buy a lot of other things, however, and that’s where the trouble starts. Rich kids have so much to choose from that they often become confused. Over-indulgence (娇养) by their parents can make them spoilt. They tend to travel more than other children, from home to home and country to country, which causes feelings of restlessness.
“But privileged children do have a better sense of their positions in the world,” adds Mr. Coles, “and they are more self-assured.” The rich children inherit the property from their parents and enjoy a high income. So money will never be one of their problems. “However, they have a sense of isolation,” warns Dr Coles, “and they could suffer from the hardship of not being able to deal with the everyday world because they will never really be given the chance. Everything they have achieved is because of an accident of birth. There can be no tremendous inner satisfaction about that.”
Today’s wealthy parents perhaps realize their riches can be more of a heavy load than happiness to their children. So the first thing for them to consider is to ensure that their families are as rich in love as they are in money.

Most young people are accustomed to having online profiles on their mobile devices, such as smart phones, pads, and laptops. These devices contain a significant amount of information about them and their friends and family, including contact numbers, photos and locations. Since they are exposed to cyber more frequently, young people need to be aware of cyber threats and have a good understanding of cybersecurity, the measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks.
Cybersecurity experts continually identify the use of strong, unique passwords as one of their top recommendations. However, because young people have been using passwords online for most of their lives, they might not have stopped to think about how unsafe their passwords actually are. Indeed, strong passphrases, passcodes or other features such as touch identification to lock their devices can help protect their information if their devices are lost or stolen.
Public wireless networks are widely used nowadays, however, they are not safe. which means that anyone could possibly see what you are doing on your laptop or smart phone while you are connected to them. Young people should limit what they do on public WiFi, and avoid logging in to personal accounts like email and E-pay. If needing a safer connection, they should consider using a virtual private network (VPN) or a personal mobile hotspot.
Finally, information on how to act online is important for the safety of young people. They should be taught that they should add “friends” on social media only if they know who he or she is. They should also be made aware that posting pictures of other people without their permission might get themselves into trouble.
Starting to use these methods and raising the certain awareness of cybersecurity at an early age can dramatically improve the security of a young person’s online life.
55. What is cybersecurity?
56. What is the possible danger of connecting to public wireless networks?
57. Read the following statement, underline the false part of it and explain the reason. Experts continually recommend young people to use passwords frequently because they lack security awareness.
58. Please briefly present what you can do to improve your cybersecurity. (about 40 words)
55. Cybersecurity is the measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks. / The measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks. / The measures taken to protect your personal information online.
56. Anyone could possibly see what you are doing on your laptop or smart phone. / What you are doing on your mobile devices will be exposed to other people. / Their personal information may leak out (be unsafe).
57. Experts continually recommend young people to use passwords frequently because they lack security awareness. In spite of frequent use of passwords online, young people may not be aware of how unsafe their passwords actually are. So experts continually recommend them to use strong, unique passwords.
58. Firstly, I will design strong passwords to unlock my mobile phone. Also, when in public places, I choose to use my mobile hotspot rather than public WiFi. Besides, if strangers ask me to add “friends” on WeChat, I tend to refuse. (43 words)

根据文章第一段“Since they are exposed to cyber more frequently, young people need to be aware of cyber threats and have a good understanding of cybersecurity, the measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks.(由于他们更频繁地接触网络,年轻人需要意识到网络威胁,并充分了解网络安全,即为保护系统、网络、设备和程序免受数字攻击而采取的措施)”可知,网络安全是为保护系统、网络、设备和程序免受数字攻击而采取的措施。 Cybersecurity is the measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks. / The measures taken to protect systems, networks, devices, and programs from digital attacks. / The measures taken to protect your personal information online.
根据文章第三段“Public wireless networks are widely used nowadays, however, they are not safe. which means that anyone could possibly see what you are doing on your laptop or smart phone while you are connected to them.(现在公共无线网络应用广泛,但并不安全。这意味着当你是连接公共无线网络时,任何人都可能看到你在笔记本电脑或智能手机上做什么)”可知,连接到公共无线网络可能存在的危险是任何人都可能看到你在笔记本电脑或智能手机上做什么。故答案为Anyone could possibly see what you are doing on your laptop or smart phone. / What you are doing on your mobile devices will be exposed to other people. / Their personal information may leak out (be unsafe).
所给陈述“Experts continually recommend young people to use passwords frequently because they lack security awareness.” 根据文章第二段“Cybersecurity experts continually identify the use of strong, unique passwords as one of their top recommendations. However, because young people have been using passwords online for most of their lives, they might not have stopped to think about how unsafe their passwords actually are.(网络安全专家不断将使用强大、独特的密码作为他们的首要建议之一。 Experts continually recommend young people to use passwords frequently because they lack security awareness. In spite of frequent use of passwords online, young people may not be aware of how unsafe their passwords actually are. So experts continually recommend them to use strong, unique passwords.

If needing a safer connection, they should consider using a virtual private network (VPN) or a personal mobile hotspot.(年轻人应该限制他们在公共Wi Fi上的行为,避免登录电子邮件和E-pay等个人账户。如果需要更安全的连接,他们应该考虑使用虚拟专用网(VPN)或个人移动热点)”可知,为了提高网络安全,在公共场所,我们选择使用虚拟专用网或移动热点,而不是公共Wi Fi;根据文章倒数第二段关键句“They should be taught that they should add “friends” on social media only if they know who he or she is. They should also be made aware that posting pictures of other people without their permission might get themselves into trouble.(应该教导他们,只有知道对方是谁,才能在社交媒体上添加“朋友”。 Firstly, I will design strong passwords to unlock my mobile phone. Also, when in public places, I choose to use my mobile hotspot rather than public Wi Fi. Besides, if strangers ask me to add “friends” on We Chat, I tend to refuse. (43 words)
