Since tea spread from China worldwide, it has become one of the most popular drinks in the world. Different countries have their own tea cultures, like afternoon tea in England.
The tradition of afternoon tea is a very special part of English culture. The custom of drinking tea became popular in England during the 1660s. It was not until the mid-19th century that the idea of “afternoon tea” first appeared.
Afternoon tea is served in the mid-afternoon, between lunch and a late dinner. The idea came from Anna, the seventh Duchess(公爵夫人) of Bedford, in 1840. At the time, many families would eat a late dinner at about 8 p. m., which was one of only two main meals each day, and the other was a mid-morning meal.
With a long time between breakfast and dinner, Anna would become hungry around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. So she asked some tea, bread, butter and cakes to be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.
Later, Anna continued it, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for “tea and a walking in the fields”.
Others soon picked up on the idea. By the 1880s, afternoon tea became an event for many ladies. They would be dressed beautifully to be served in the sitting room between four and five o'clock, talking about the latest news, their daily life and fashion.
Today’s afternoon tea is simpler than traditional afternoon tea. It is just a biscuit or small cake and a cup of tea. However, there is one thing that has never changed—the meaning of afternoon tea.

These days, teenagers are heavily influenced by the media. Many of them have watched thousands of hours of TV. That's more time than they spend with teachers at school. And we haven't yet considered the hours they spend using the Internet and reading newspapers.
However, several studies have shown a serious problem: today's teenagers lack media literacy (媒体素养). In other words, they have difficultly critically thinking about the information they see. One study that was done on middle school students showed that more than 80 percent of them couldn't tell the difference between real stories and ads that looked like news.
Standford professor Kevin John teaches a class called Media Effects. He tries to help his students learn media literacy. The professor gave an example that shows why media literacy is important. In the example, two news stations report a snowstorm. One focuses on (关注) the terrible road conditions. The other focuses on kids playing in the snow. "With a news story. news stations tell you what they feel are the important details (细节). These details mostly depend on the opinions of the news director." said John. "A person who has media literacy would realize that each story is about one side at this time. There is more going on."
Some experts think shoe is the best place to teach media literacy. Other believe everyone—form parents to reporters—should help teenagers learn the skills.
As for the best time to start learning media literacy, many experts suggest the age of 12. But some basic ideas can be taught even earlier. "It's never too early to start learning media literacy," John said.
26.From the first paragraph, we can learn that teenagers today spend more time ______.

27.The underlined word "lack" in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.

28.The example shows that a person who has media literacy _______about a news story.
A.should have the same opinions as others
B.could think about is good and bad sides
C.must know about all the important details
29.Professor Kevin John would agree that _______.
A.everyone is supposed to help children learn different skills
B.children should be taught media literacy as early as possible
C.news directors should report the news children are interested in
30.The main idea of the passage is _______.

In 2009, Todd Bol put up a Little Free Library with the used boards. That was to show his respect and love for his mother, who loved reading very much. The idea quickly spread, and Todd made a wise decision to set up Little Free library as a non-profit (非营利的) organization with signs that read “Little Free Library: Take a Book, Return a Book.” Today there are about 100,000 little free libraries in over 100 countries and they have a great influence on people’s life.

I just live in such a world where books, and the knowledge that comes with them, are highly valued.” Catherine, an American woman, said, “I’ve even received a note of thanks from a gentleman named Esteban. He was especially thankful to have a “friend” on a cold night: ‘Thank you for this wonderful gift of a book. It’s an excellent friend on this cold and lonely night. I’ll return one in its place as soon as I can!’”

It's really difficult to live in a country like Australia, especially after you have spent so much time in China. If you don't drive a car in China, you just ride a bike. You can get anywhere easily, and there are subways. But in Australia, if you don't have a car, you can do nothing."
The Australian uncle also complained about (抱怨) the price of Uber, an Australian taxi-hailing software. "My God, one kilometer is almost 20 Australian ollas (about 97 yuan RMB)."
The blogger of Beijing Expat Guide, Paul Stoker, compared life in Beijing with life in America. He said. "Life is usually controlled by cars in the US. There's no cheap and good public transportation, so it's so difficult to get somewhere. You always have to borrow or rent a car or ask for a ride." "Compared to the colorful life in Beijing, life seems so boring in America. It seems nothing has changed at home, except for you."
Coming back to America, Cynthia Lopez said at eChinacities. "The number of mass shooting in the US has quickly increased in recent years. You don't have to worry about your safety in China—guns are not allowed by law in China. Because of America's gun culture, guns will never be illegal in the US."

When learning is mentioned, regular school can be the first place which you can think of. However, the Internet is changing the way students learn. Many learning apps provide rich courses for the learners to meet their levels of knowledge and interests. TED is one of them. With the Internet, learners are allowed to learn at home or anywhere else.
Which do you prefer: Regular School or Home School?
Regular school helps you learn more. And you have more chances to take part in clubs and try out different kinds of courses. In class, you can discuss problems by working in groups.
I prefer having classes online because you can spend more time learning when you're the only student in "your class". Having cases at home may make you very independent.
I prefer regular school. You can have so many more friends and work with more people in groups. When I was having classes at home, I hated it.
If you're a slow learner, you can fall behind in regular school. But if you have classes at home, you can learn well. I' m having classes at home, and I make much more progress now than when I went to regular school.
TEDThis free app is a great tool for those who are interested in public speaking It provides more than 700 talks from the world's most famous thinkers, leaders and artists. It could be the first choice for many learners to develop their speaking skill.
What can you do to improve your online studies? To successfully learn online, you can follow these steps. First of all, you should always keep in mind what you hope to complete by the end of it. Then, a study plan is needed. A good study plan includes a study calendar and a to-do list. Next, when having a class, be active to think about what he teacher says and express yourself. After class, remember to review what you have learned by reading your notes or making a mind map.
With the coming of 5G, the cloud classroom might not be far away. However, whatever advantages online learning has, it just offers a way of learning. It doesn't take the place of any of the ways. There must be many more ways of learning in the future. Nobody knows what will happen.

Footprint means the influence that a person’s or organization’s activities have on the environment. Simply understanding it is very useful to us. (Let’s take the example of Mr. Brown’s footprints.)
Water footprint
Water is the source of life. We use water directly for drinking, cooking and washing, but we also use water indirectly for producing things such as food, paper and cloth. A water footprint tells us how much water is being used. It can help us come up with ways to save water. You can learn about how your daily habits influence your water use through the food you eat, the things you buy and even the energy you use.
Food
Water Footprint
Mr. Brown’s Water Footprint

Carbon(碳) footprintA carbon footprint is the total amount of CO₂ a person or organization produces. We can use it to understand the influence of personal behavior on global warming (全球变暖). Most people are surprised when they see how much CO₂ their activities create. Then they begin to think about changing their daily habits to reduce(减少) their carbon footprints. For example, they can walk instead of using a car.
Carbon Footprint(Each of the following activities adds 1 kilo of CO₂)
Mr. Brown’s Carbon Footprint
travel 10 to 12 km by train or bus
drive 6 km by car
produce 5 plastic hags
use your computer for 32 hours
drive to work 24 km
drive to the supermarket 5 km

How to reduce your water footprint and carbon footprint to be greener
Tip 1: Save water and electricityWhen you are at home, don’t leave the water or lights on when you don’t need it.
Tip2: __▲__
Meatless Monday is popular with people who want to eat less meat. The production of meat uses lots of energy and produces lots of CO₂.
Tip 3: Buy less

As the saying goes, “Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles”. In modern society, travelling is a very common thing. Almost everyone can go on a trip at any time as long as they want to. In fact, centuries ago, some famous people already travelled around China and they got a lot from exploration (探险).
Xu Xiake, a geographer and writer in Ming dynasty, spent more than thirty years on the road four hundred years ago. With his mother’s encouragement, Xu Xiake travelled around China. He met with many difficulties on the road. But he never stopped travelling and writing.
Xu Xiake was on the road all his life, and his travel notes covered as much as his knowledge. His 600,000- word travel notes finally came out in 1776, about 135 years after his death. China Tourism Day is set on May 19th, the date when he started The Travels of Xu Xiake.
Some of Xu Xiake’s Footprints around China
Macro Polo’s Journey to the East
