The desks are almost always positioned in lines facing the teacher. But educators now say children can do better in a less structured learning environment. And designers have been providing spaces and seating to meet those suggestions. Bob Pearlman works as an education consultant in the United States. He helps teachers and school administrators with educational planning and other issues. He told The Associated Press traditional classrooms are a thing of the past. Now students work in “extended learning areas” that include projectplanning rooms, workrooms, and laboratories,as well as learning spaces for groups and individuals. Pearlman points to Albemarle County Public Schools, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The school system invited teams from all its schools to develop learning spaces that would help students deal with complex ideas and work on creative building projects. Now, its elementary school classes have exchanged traditional desks for things like soft seating and connectable tables. Another change to the design of classrooms is the ability to connect to the Internet. “Classrooms and libraries used to be the only spaces where students spent their school hours. Wireless, laptops and project learning have changed that,” Pearlman said. He noted that this has made all school spaces into possible extended learning areas. “Natural light, reduced outside noise and good air quality are all considerations in classroom design,” says Aaron Jobson. He is with the Quattrocchi Kwok Architects in Santa Rosa, California. “More and more evidence connects the physical environment to learning outcomes,” Jobson said. New designs include glass walls inside buildings and doors that increase connectedness among students and create more open space for teachers. 8.Where can students learn better?A.In wellordered classrooms. B.In traditional classrooms. C.In less structured classrooms. D.In classrooms with modern equipment. 9.What’s the change of the elementary school classes in Albemarle County?A.New desks are positioned facing teachers. B.Libraries become the places for students to learn. C.Soft seats and connectable tables are equipped. D.Students study at home through the Internet. 10.What can we infer from the text?A.School education is extremely important. B.Classroom design has nothing to do with learning outcomes. C.Teaching methods contribute much to students’ exam results. D.Classroom design should take physical environment into account. 11.What’s the best title of the passage?A.The New Educational Plannings B.Some Creative Teaching TheoriesC.Traditional Teaching Methods D.The New Design of Classrooms【语篇导读】本文是一篇文化类说明文。 根据第一段中的“But educators now say children can do better in a less structured learning environment. 根据文章第二段中的“Now, its elementary school classes have exchanged traditional desks for things like soft seating and connectable tables. A项“学校教育非常重要”与C项“教学方法有利于学生们的考试结果”在文中并未提到;根据最后一段中的“More and more evidence connects the physical environment to learning outcomes”和首句“Natural light, reduced outside noise and good air quality are all considerations in classroom design. Ⅱ.七选五阅读Endangered species(2021·广州市高三年级阶段训练)An endangered species is a group of animals or plants that could soon become extinct. __1__ Many species are nearly extinct and could disappear off the face of the earth very soon if we don’t do anything to save them. There are many reasons why species become endangered. Habitat destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered and this happens in two ways. When humans move into a new area, the animals’ habitat is destroyed and there is nowhere for them to live and nothing for them to eat because humans chop down trees and build houses and farms. __2__ Chemicals in rivers and poisons on farms cause the destruction of animals’ homes and food supplies. __3__ Animals have been brought to the edge of extinction because they are killed for their highly valued meat, fur, bones or skin, or just for sport. Overfishing has resulted in many large sea creatures like whales and sharks becoming endangered species. __4__ We should take care not to pollute natural areas, and farmers or companies who destroy animal habitats should face severe financial penalties(处罚). The public can help out by refusing to buy any product made from these animals’ body parts. Governments can help, too, by making it against the law to hunt, fish or trade in endangered species. They can also provide funding for animal sanctuaries(保护区), to protect animals from extinction by breeding more endangered animals, which they later release into the wild. __5__A.Animal habitats are also destroyed because of pollution. B.Endangered species are also the result of hunting and fishing. C.Eventually, all the creatures on the earth will enjoy being together. D.Recent changes, however, have helped to improve the situation. E.So what can individuals and governments do to protect endangered species?F.Extinction happens when the last of the species has died out and there will be no more. G.If we all cooperate and take these steps, we will protect these animals for future generations. 根据空前一句“An endangered species is a group of animals or plants that could soon become extinct. ”和空后一句中的“Many species are nearly extinct…” 2.A 根据空后一句“Chemicals in rivers…and food supplies. 故选A项。3.B 根据下文描述的“…because they are killed for their highly valued meat, fur, bones or skin, or just for sport. Overfishing has resulted in…”
