    Lesson 2 Apps

    教学目标与核心素养:

    知识目标:Students can learn some new words.

    能力目标:Students can listen for general understanding and specific information.

    情感目标:Students can think individually and learn cooperatively.

    教学难点:Howto improve students' listening skills.

    教学过程:

    一、Pre-listening

    教师活动:

    Ask students to have a talk:

    What apps do you often use? What do you use them for? Use the phrases below to help you make notes.

    to book tickets

    to book accommodation

    to order food

    to find directions

    to learn a language

    to check the weather

    to look for popular restaurants

    to subscribe to newspapers and magazines

    Ask for volunteers to share their ideas about apps to the class.

    二、  While- listening

    LISTEN FOR UNDERSTANDING

    1. 教师活动:引导学生读题。

    Ask students to read the information in the Skill Builder box on Page 12. And make them understand it.

    2. 学生活动:回答问题。

    Before listening to an interview with an app developer, read and answer the questions. Use the key words to help you. Then listen and check.

    1. Why are apps so popular?

    2. What are the difficulties in developing an app?

    3. What are the latest technologies used in apps?

    Answer the questions using the information in Activity 3 to help you.

    1. What are some general functions of apps?

    2. What can students do with educational apps?

    3. According to Li Xing, what are the difficulties in developing an app?

    4. If you are able to develop an app to solve a real-world problem, what problem would you like to solve? And how?

    (Suggested Answers:

    1. General functions include: finding popular restaurants, calling for taxis, finding directions to different places, and so on.

    2. Students can choose their online teachers and subjects on educational apps according to their personal interests and needs.

    3. The most difficult thing is finding out what people need and solving real-world problems.

    三、After-listening

    1. 学生活动:完成练习。

    Look at the Talk Builder. Pick out the expressions that are formal/ informal andexplain why.

    (1) Divide students into pairs. Tell students that they will discuss the difference between formal and informalconversations.

    (2) Review students' opinions. Explain to students that when they are talking to a family member, the conversation is informal; when they are talking to someone they don't know, the conversation is formal.

    Role-play the following situations. Note the formal/ informal use of language.

    ·Student A: a mother who wants to choose an app

    Student B: the son/ daughter offering to help

    ·Student A: a teenager preparing for a party

    Student B: a friend offering to help to buy things online for Student A
