Presentatin
Bring in a map f the residential areas arund the schl r draw a simple map n the bard. Prepare a large envelpe by writing a lcal address (in large letters) n it. The address shuld have a flat number, a blck number, an estate name and a street address.
Revise numbers 1 t 20. Number the pupils 1-20. Ask the pupils t write their number n a piece f paper. Check that they knw their numbers by getting them t cunt alud and stand up when their number is called. Play a game by giving a number and an instructin, e.g. Number 7 tuch yur head. Number 18 stand up etc.
Pint t an estate n the map intrducing its name and giving the address. Fr example, That’s … Estate. It’s at … Street. Repeat with ther estates and streets. Write the names f the estates and the streets n the bard. Pint t the map and ask the pupils t repeat my sentences.
Shw Transparency. Play the Pupil’s Bk Cassette and pint t the speech bubble. Ask the pupils t repeat after the beeps.
Practice
Shw Transparency. Pint t the pstman and shw the envelpe with the address n it. Read the pstman’s wrds and pint t the estate in the backgrund. Encurage the pupils t repeat the sentences after me. Write 21 n the bard in figures. Tell the pupils we say twenty-ne. We can write it tw ways, either 21 r twenty-ne.
Shw the pupils hw we link the wrd twenty with the numbers 1-9. Ask the pupils t cunt frm twenty t twenty-nine. Pint t the figures and the wrds n Transparency.
Shw the pupils the ntice at the bttm f the page. Read ut the wrds fr 30, 40, etc. t 100 and have the pupils repeat the wrds.

Play the pupil’s Bk Cassette and ask the pupils t listen t the sunds and the wrds. Pint t the spelling f this sund. It is imprtant that the pupils realize the cnsnant sund is spelt with tw letters. There is n difference between this sund and single letter w sund (e.g. we and where are prnunced in exactly the same way). Anther example f a wrd that the pupils knw beginning with wh is white.
Say the wrds slwly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sund crrectly.
Pint t the pictures and check that the pupils can say the wrds withut my mdel.
Play the pupil’s Bk Cassette again. Ask the pupils t listen t the rhyme and t circle the by’s friend. Get the pupils t repeat the rhyme.
