With millions of Chinese having chosen to stay where they were during the weeklong Spring Festival, the workers in theaters were working overtime (加班). They were happy to see the golden time of the year for the Chinese film market.
From February 11 to February 17, the country set a new Spring Festival record by a box office total of over 6 billion yuan according to the app Beacon. The number is larger than the record at the same time in 2019, showing that homegrown films were doing a good job in the home market.
At the beginning of last year, China began closing all cinemas in order to contain COVID-19. Most of the films left theaters to go direct online, or were put off to another hot box-office season such as the National Day holiday in early October.
There is no doubt that the 2021 Spring Festival has brought a big surprise to many film makers. Detective Chinatown 3 brought in over 4 billion yuan. Hi, Mom was widely regarded as the top dark horse. Director Lu Yang’s A Writer’s Odyssey, a horrible adventure film, also drew wide attention. Besides, Boonie Bears: The Wild Life and The Yingyang Master were popular with people.
Most cinemas in big cities raised ticket prices since there were more moviegoers but fewer scats. Because of COVID-19, theaters in low-risk areas were required to limit seating to 75 percent. What’s more, as many people stayed where they were for the holiday, theaters in larger cities became more crowded. Besides, the shortage of attractive films in November and December made movies more desirable (值得向往的) to movie fans during the festival, causing ticket prices to go up.
( )16. What happened during the 2021 Spring Festival?
A. Most films went direct online.
B. The film market was very successful.
C. Some theater workers hated the busy work.
D. The box office was smaller than that in 2019.
( )17. What does the underlined word “contain” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Meet. B. Admit. C. Include. D. Control.
( )18. What do we know from Paragraph 4?
A. Some good films on show.

( )19. How many films are mentioned in this passage?
A. 3. B.4. C.5. D.6.
( )20. Why did the film ticket prices go up during the 2021 Spring Festival?
①The films were better made.
②Theaters were required to limit seats.
③Many people stayed where they were.
④There were few amazing films in November and December.
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①③④ D.①②④

As any parent knows, sometimes a little white lie (善意的说言) is the only way to make a naughty child quiet. Indeed, parents have shared the top white lies they have told their children. While some of them are funny, others are somewhat cruel.
“Father Christmas is watching you” and “Your pet has gone to live on a farm” are among the top white lies. The top 20 list of little lies that adults use shows that four in five parents have told their children something that isn’t true. The threat (威胁) of Father Christmas is on the top, with 62 percent of parents using Father Christmas to keep their kids under control.
Most of the British people say that they lie to their children to save them from being upset or to stop them behaving badly. The top white lie told to kids about their pets is “Your pet has gone to live on a form in the countryside”, which is used after a pet dies or has gone missing.
One 62-year-old man said that he couldn’t forget that when he was four, his parents told him that his cat had run away. However, after he grew up, he finally knew the truth — the cat had actually been given away. Another person said that he still remembered that when he was young, he believed his father’s words that the whole world used to be black and white.
Forty percent of parents say that they will certainly lie to their children if necessary, but over half say they will certainly tell the truth. However, one in ten parents say they have replaced (代替) their children’s dead pets with new ones looking the same to trick their children into believing they were still alive.
( )21. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The ways B. The parents
C. The children. D. The top white lies.
( )22. What docs the threat of Father Christmas show?
A. Father Christmas does live in the world.
B. Children should learn more about festivals.
C. Some children fear and respect Father Christmas.
D. Father Christmas is more important than parents.
( )23. Why do most British parents tell white lies to their children?
A. To make them happy and behave well.
B. To make them believe Father Christmas.
C. To stop them from looking for their pets.
D. To help them understand the meaning of life.
( )24. What can we know from Paragraph 4?
A. Children hate the white lies from their parents.
B. Parents’ white lies may impress their children deeply.
C. Parents’ white lies may do harm to their children.
D. Children don’t really mind their parents’ white lies.
( ) 25. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Parents’ different worries about white lies.
B. Parents’ different understandings of white lies.
