One f the reasns why many rbts ccasinally misbehave while participating in a grup cnversatin is that their actins heavily rely n data cllected by their sensrs. Sensrs, hwever, are prne(易于遭受) t errrs, and can smetimes be disturbed by sudden mvements and bstacles in the rbt's surrundings.
“If the rbt's camera is masked by an bstacle fr a secnd, the rbt might nt see that persn, and as a result, it ignres the user,” Hedayati explained. “Based n my experience, users find these misbehavirs disturbing. The key gal f ur recent prject was t help rbts detect and predict the psitin f an undetected persn within the cnversatinal grup.”
The technique develped by Hedayati and Szafir was trained n a series f existing datasets. By analyzing the psitins f ther speakers in a grup, it can accurately predict the psitin f an undetected user.
In the future, the new apprach culd help t enhance the cnversatinal abilities f bth existing and newly develped rbts. This might in turn make them easier t serve in large public spaces, including malls, hspitals, and ther public places. “The next step fr us will be t imprve the gaze behavir f rbts in a cnversatinal grup.
