However, an invitation to a formal meal can make many people nervous. Here are some ideas that can help you to be a well - behaved guest. Basic table manners should be kept in mind first. Keep your elbows off the table, and chew (咀嚼) with your mouth closed. Never pick your teeth at the table. While it’s OK to use your fingers when eating bread or sandwiches, most foods should be eaten with’ utensils (餐具) . Thinking more of others is necessary to a pleasant dining experience. Be polite, eat slowly and take time to converse with those around you. Laughter is perfectly fine, but never shout across the table to make yourself heard. Moreover, keep your phone on silent, and check it as little as possible during the meal. If you don’t know what to do at the table, just begin with your napkin. When you sit down, open the napkin at once and place it over your knees. Whenever you need to excuse yourself, leave it in your seat. When you sit down, you’ll find forks on your left as well as knives and spoons on your right. These utensils will be in different shapes and sizes, but don’t be worried! Just begin with the outer utensils and work towards the middle. Still, if you’re uncertain what to do, simply follow your host’s lead, and you can’t go wrong. When the meal is over, tidy up your napkin and put it down to the left of you. Before you leave, be sure to express your thankfulness to your host.5What can we do at the table according to the passage?AWe can pick our teeth at the tableBWe can chew with our mouth closedCWe can put our elbows on the table DWe can take the food with both hands6What does the underlined word “converse” in Paragraph 3 mean?Acompare                       Bconnect Ccontinue                       Dcommunicate7What can we learn from the passage?AWe should shut off our phone at the table.BForks are usually put on the right at the table.CAfter the meal, we should help the host tidy up the table.DWe should put the napkin on our knees after sitting down.8What would be the best title for the passage?AHow to accept a dining invitation BTable manners in different countriesCHow to behave well at the table DA pleasant dining experience 【答案】5.B             6. The ways of greeting are not always the same in different countries. In America, two people usually greet each other with a handshake. It is a way to show respect(尊重)to the other person. Athletes from opposite teams shake hands before a game for the same reason. However, most Americans don’t shake hands when they meet people they have already known well. When American friends meet each other, they might only wave(挥手), or maybe just nod(点头)their heads. In New Zealand, there is a special way of greeting called “Hongi”. In the greeting, two people press their noses and foreheads(前额)together and close their eyes. This is an old tradition that comes from the Maori, who were the first people to live in New Zealand. Even today, many New Zealanders still press their foreheads when they meet.Kissing is sometimes used as a way to greet someone. In some countries, important people used to wear special rings. It was the custom for visitors to kiss these rings when they came for a meeting. In France, when people meet, they sometimes kiss each other on the face.In Japan, people bow to each other every time they meet. Even family members bow to each other. People decide how low to bow depending on how respected the other person is.Today, new ways of greeting are created all the time. People can do this with a quick “hi”, a handshake, or even a simple smile. The important thing is that the people they are greeting understand them.9The passage mainly talks about ________.Adifferent ways of greeting Bhow to be a polite personChow to show respect to others Dways of saying hello in different languages10The underlined part “the same reason” refers to ________.Ashowing love Bshowing respect Cthanking each other Dintroducing each other11We can learn from the third paragraph that ________.Ait’s impolite to press one’s nose in New Zealand BHongi is a kind of traditional food in New ZealandCthe Maori used to be an old village in New Zealand DHongi is an old tradition in New Zealand12How low does one Japanese bow to the other?AIt depends on how respected the other person is. BIt depends on how old the other person is.CIt depends on how successful the other person is. DIt depends on how tall the other person is.13Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?AIt’s OK to just nod heads when American friends meet. BIn some countries rings were once used for kissing.CFamily members in Japan do not bow to each other. DThe ways of greeting are changing over time.  答案9.
