Ⅱ. AFor ten years, Hingorani and I have shared a wall. In all these years, we shared nothing more than that wall.Hingorani lost her husband around eight months ago. Now, the 82-year-old former headmaster of Mumbai’s Jai Hind College lives alone in the apartment next door.Knowing it would be difficult for her to manage things without any help, I started dropping by. When I found out that she loves meat and chicken, I went with a plate of butter chicken and kulchas. And we started to talk of course. As we started to talk, I realized how different she was from what I had thought. And that’s where our friendship really began. I found that she related to me in a lot of ways—both of us married of our own free will, and she, too, was a working mother. We spoke about her relationship with her two sisters who live abroad and how they connect with each other every day.Her liberal thinking, the way she raised her daughter, her passion for her culture and stories of her teaching days—including how the boys at her college gave her a hard time—all made for great conversation. I never felt we were generations apart. She, too, loves my company and looks forward to my crazy stories without judgment. I tell her about the challenges I face when raising a child. A chat with her is like a warm hug at the end of a bad day.Hingorani has become part of my daily life. I look forward to either having a cup of tea with her on her balcony or enjoying a glass of wine in a friendly atmosphere on a Saturday night. Our connection is pure. Our friendship is not limited by age. Instead, it is maintained and strengthened by the circumstances.1.Why did the author begin to visit Hingorani?A.She felt lonely living alone. B.She was curious about the neighbor. C.She had extra food to share with the neighbor. D.She wanted to lend the neighbor a hand.2.What did the author realize after talking with Hingorani?A.They had a lot in common. B.They both had two sisters. C.They had different thoughts. D.They had known each other for years.3.What can we infer about the author from the last two paragraphs?A.She lives a very relaxing life. B.She is good at raising children. C.She enjoys the old lady’s company. D.She has no other friends except the old lady.4.What would be the best title for the text?A.I Found a Great Friend Beyond Age B.I Saw Cooking as a Useful Bonding Tool C.A Great Conversation Saved My Life D.My New Friend Taught Me to CookBThirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends—532, actually, if you count up her friends online. And she spends a lot of time with them. But is it possible that Kaylee’s online friendship could be making her lonely? That’s what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendship.Could this be true? During your parents’ childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other. Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teen sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of his time is spent on social media platforms(平台)like Instagram and Facebook. In fact, in many ways, online communication enables friendship to be stronger. “There’s definitely a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendship. “If we are constantly checking out our virtual worlds, we will have little time for our real-world friendship,” says Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the “friends” on social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don’t need someone to like your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.5.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?A.To summarize the text. B.To tell something about true friends. C.To bring up a discussion. D.To encourage online friendship.6.What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3?A.In any case. B.In person. C.In a hurry. D.In advance.7.What is Katie’s attitude towards online communication?A.Positive. B.Unconcerned. C.Confused. D.Worried.8.What view does Rosen hold?A.It’s wise to turn to friends online. B.It’s easier to develop friendship in reality. C.Teenagers need focus on real-world friendship.D.Social media help people stay closely connected.Ⅲ.七选五Friendships mean a lot in our life. 1 Be sure that the people who are close to you are the ones that make your life better, not worse. Remember, good friends improve your life, while toxic(极其有害的) friends harm it. The UserThis type of friend is sometimes called a fair-weather friend. The user seems to be there for you forever, and make plans with you—that is, until something better comes along. This friend is always looking for a way to improve their social position. They also do not want to be alone on the weekend. 2 You deserve a friend who is your friend through thick and thin. The Leech 3 They expect you to drop everything when they call. While it is important to be a supportive friend, with this type of friend, you have to set boundaries. If you do not, after a while, this type of friend will take up most of your time. The Negative NellieThis friend is never happy with anything they have. 4 Negative Nellies tend to have negative opinions about almost everything. Not only is this type of friend negative about their life, but they also direct that negativity toward you. They may judge everything from the clothes you wear to the people you talk to. They will never praise you. Look for inspiring friends that can be happy for you and supportive. The Drama QueenThis type of friend’s life is like one long soap opera. Every day there seem to be letdowns and sadness. With this friend, you become the problem-solver. But remember, they are probably not really interested in changing. 5 Drama queens pay all attention to their life, and they never notice what you need. A.This friend may put you in danger. B.This type of friend always needs you. C.They spend a lot of time complaining. D.It is important to choose your friends wisely.E.It is difficult to know our friends’ true colors.F.Once you have done your part, they will be gone.G.This type of friend is not interested to hear your issues.1. 2. 3. 4. 5. have a chat意为“聊天”。 4.To make 考查不定式。 此处强调时间状语on that night,故填It。 correspond with sb. 根据第三段中的“Knowing it would be difficult for her to manage things without any help, I started dropping by.” 根据第四段中的“I found that she related to me in a lot of ways—both of us married of our own free will, and she, too, was a working mother.(我发现她和我在很多方面都很投契,我们都是自愿结婚的,她也是一个职业母亲。)” 根据倒数第二段中的“She, too, loves my company(她也喜欢和我在一起)”及最后一段中的“Hingorani has become part of my daily life.(Hingorani已经成为我日常生活的一部分。)” 通读全文,特别是根据最后一段中的“Our friendship is not limited by age.(我们的友谊不受年龄的限制。)” 根据画线部分前“During your parents’ childhoods...”和画线部分后“Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones.” 由第五段中的“In fact, in many ways...with each other”可知,事实上,在很多方面,在线交流可以使朋友关系更加牢固,Katie认为,这绝对有积极的影响。 故选A。 根据上文“Friendships mean a lot in our life.”
