Travelling around the world with children is difficult enough, while attempting it without using motorized transport is even more of challenge. Even so, Dario Schworer, a 42yearold climatologist and mountain guide, and his 33yearold wife Sabine are on a journey to do just that.
The Swiss couple want to travel across the world's oceans and climb the highest mountain on every continent to promote Earthfriendly ways of life.
“We are collecting good examples of dealing with climate change and living in harmony with nature and we want to spread such ideas.” Schworer said.“We want to help people affected by global warming and to inspire children for the future.”
Recently after having spent three months teaching children in the Everest region, the couple want to show it is possible to travel through the world's climate zones using just human power and forces of nature.
In the 47 countries they have visited they have collected 22 tons of trash, taught people in Ecuador how the sun's rays can be used to clean water and inspired a person in Chile to build a house on water with recycled plastic bottles as a foundation. They have also collected trash in the mountains of Nepal with school children.
So far they have communicated with 45,000 children from South America, Australia and Asia, giving presentations about the importance of recycling and using alternative energy like solar and wind power.
When they began their adventure in 2003, they had no children of their own. But since then two has become five: daughter Salina is now five years old, Andri was born in Chile and baby Neo was born in Australia.
Initially the couple thought they would complete their travels in four years, but now, they believe it could take seven more.
“Since our belief is the need to respect nature, we travel only when conditions are good,” Schworer said.

Earlier this year, my family experienced an unexpected tragedy. The kind of tragedy which knocks you out of yourself and turns your whole world upside down. A tragedy which also caused me to be out of work for three months. It was completely unforeseen and I had no time to put together an out-of-office plan.
I’ve worked at previous companies where this kind of tragedy would have been handled professionally; I would have been given the legally-required money and asked to leave. But at SAS Institute (an American developer of analytics software), my team stepped in and filled in with no questions or hesitations. My work was not left undone. My clients (客户) were patient when those picking up the pieces of projects unrelated to them needed some time to get familiar with the work. My management and colleagues checked on my family regularly. At last, my manager, my entire team and Human Resources Department helped me back to work at my own pace. They even changed my workspace over a weekend to better suit my personal needs before I even came back to work.
You see, SAS creates a family. The special attention to employee happiness and work/life balance makes that family possible. The flexible work environment enables most employees to create a schedule that best suits their personal needs—whether it’s attending a school play or taking an aging parent to the doctor. The Work/Life Office has a wealth of resources for college planning, anger management, sorrow, etc. But, as you can see, it doesn’t stop there. Most employees believe that SAS is their family. We rely on each other. We help each other succeed. We celebrate team successes. We hang out after work. Our kids play together. We laugh together and cry together.
Sure, we have a lot of convenience benefits at SAS. But, what really makes a difference to me is the SAS culture that the outside world doesn’t always see: The balance. The companionship. The management support. The family it allows me to have.
I’m so eager for others to see the side of SAS that I see every day.
    8. After the tragedy, the author ________.
    A. changed his job
    B. felt very hopeless
    C. was sick for three months
    D. turned to his colleagues for help
    9. What did the author’s colleagues do for him during his absence?
    A. They raised money to help him.
    B. They visited his family every weekend.
    C. They asked his clients to wait for him to return.
    D. They moved his office desk to a convenient place.
    10. By saying the underlined words “SAS creates a family” in Paragraph 3, the author means ________.
    A. the employees feel at home at SAS
    B. SAS often organizes family get-togethers
    C. many SAS employees have become couples
    D. the offices at SAS are decorated like families
    11. The author writes the text mainly to ________.
    A. tell his life experience
    B. introduce SAS culture
    C. encourage people to join SAS
    D. explain the importance of family

Slowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smarthome security to selfdriving cars, all the internetconnected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightningfast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the U.S. top out at an average of 19.42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds.
“5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age,” said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. The selfdriving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It’s pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基础设施) construction. There’s lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed.
Augmented reality glasses and virtual headset haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist — or perhaps even replace — smartphones.
Ericsson stated at February’s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on hardware for processing power.
But don’t get too excited. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the meantime including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn’t concentrated only in big cities.
12.What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1?
    A.The lightingfast speed of 5G.
    B.The expectation of 5G world.
    C.The difference between 4G and 5G.
D.The internetconnected devices in our life.
13.What does the underlined word “emblem” in Paragraph 2 mean?
    A.Exhibition. B.Success.
    C.Symbol. D.Explanation.
14.We can infer from the text that ________.
A.5G world won’t come without AR glasses
B.5G helps to create the artificial intelligence vehicle
C.Apple company is developing AR glasses worldwide
D.Tech companies will face the fact that smartphones may be replaced
15.What will the author probably tell us next?
A.How to fully expand 5G coverage.
B.Smart glasses will become faster and lighter.
    C.Why 5G isn’t concentrated in big cities.
    D.The importance of infrastructure construction.
根据第一段最后一句“But by comparison 5G promises gigabit speeds(但是相比之下5 G承诺千兆速度).”
根据画线词所在句的下一句“... and that is to say, it is a sign of time... (也就是说,这是时间的标志)”可知,画线词的意思是“标志,象征”。
14.D 推理判断题。根据第三段中“This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist—or perhaps even replace—smartphones(这一点值得注意,因为据报道,苹果等公司正在开发增强现实眼镜,以帮助——甚至取代——智能手机).”
根据最后一段 “But don’t get too excited. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the meantime, including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn’t concentrated only in big cities(但是不要太激动。与此同时,仍有很多工作要做,包括各种试验,以确保无线电能很好地配合硬件和基础设施建设,这样5G就不会只集中在大城市).”可知,作者接下来可能会告诉我们“如何全面扩大5G覆盖”。

If your host family gets angry about kids running wildly, either plan to keep a close eye on your kids or plan to stay somewhere else. __17__

Playing host to a family with children can be quite a challenge. Make sure you help lighten the load.
__18__ Offer to help with cooking and cleanup. Make your beds and run to the store for milk. Better yet, don’t ask. Just start working.
    Help pay for food
This may not apply, if you’re visiting parents and they insist on paying for everything and they can afford it. __19__ Use your judgment when it comes to staying with parents. However, if you’re visiting cousins, it will be a great help to them if you buy your share of the food.

G.Having a talk with your children about expected behavior while visiting is always a good idea.

43.impossible 根据上文“The guide on the second journey was very softlyspoken. ”可推知,此处表示导游说话温和,在急流的噪音下不可能听到他的声音。故填impossible。
    44.ours 句意:这位安静的导游不是我们的领袖,而是一个比我们更敏感的人。空处与“whose sensitivity”呼应,故此处用名词性物主代词作宾语。
    45.Given 句意:如果给机会选择一个领导者,每个人都会选择像巴兹这样的人。分析句子结构可知,give和句子主语everyone之间构成逻辑上的动宾关系,故用过去分词。
