    □停 顿一、意群一个句子可根据意思和语法结构分成若干小段,每一小段称之为一个意群(sense grup)。意群可以是一个词,一个词组或短语,也可以是并列句中的一个分句或复合句的一个主句、从句等等,停顿(pause)是在意群之间进行的。有些语法书用“/”来表示;本书和最新人教版教材一致,用“|”表示。
    句子可以按语义、语法和语调特征各分为三个单位。句子划分意群的一般原则归纳如下:1.名词词组(1)冠词+名词。例如:a cuntry(2)名词+名词。例如:cmrade Li(3)指示代词+名词。例如:this bk(4)形容词+名词。例如:natural science
    (5)作形容词用的名词或分词+名词。例如:New Year’s Day, the wrking class(6)数词+名词。例如:thirty-tw ntebks(7)不定代词+名词。例如:sme ink(注:“数词+数词”也可构成一个意群)
    2.介词短语。例如: frm nw n, with an effrt3.副词短语。例如:day and night, first f all4.副词+介词短语。例如:early in the mrning, far int the night5.“副词+动词”,或“动词+副词”。例如:quite understand, study hard6.一些固定的动词词组。例如:t take a rest, t have a meeting, t get ready
    7.系动词+表语。例如:be at schl, grw quite well8.主语+谓语。这种句型用于简短语句中,一般划分为一个意群。例如:He stands up.9.主语+谓语+宾语。这种句型用于简短语句时,划分为一个意群。例如:I can speak English.
    10.简短的名词性从句,包括主语从句、表语从句和宾语从句。例如:That he will cme here︱is certain.(主语从句)This is︱hw he studies English.(表语从句)He tld me︱where I culd find my bk.(宾语从句)
    11.简短的定语从句。例如:This is a factry︱that makes clth.12.简短的状语从句。状语从句可以放在句首或句末:放在句首时,从句后通常要用逗号;放在句末时,从句一般不用逗号,每个简短的状语从句分为一个意群。例如:I waited︱till he came back.He can’t cme︱because he is ill.We wrked fast︱s that we culd finish ur plan.
    二、气群凡是一口气能说完或者读完的一个句子,或句子一大部分的,称为一个气群。一个气群一般包括若干个意群,说话或者朗读时,气长的人可念完一个很长的句子而不停顿,但最短的气群不得少于一个意群。气群常用“‖”表示。例如:Bth my brther and I︱are fnd f tennis.‖He was cheered︱by the large crwd︱which assembled at the statin.‖
