A study f vilinists fund that merely gd players practised as much as better players, leaving ther factrs such as quality f educatin, learning skills and perhaps natural talent t accunt fr the difference.
This finding challenges the 10, 000-hur rule prmted in Malclm Gladwell’s 1993 study f vilinists and pianists. Gladwell states that enugh practice will make an expert f anyne. “The idea has been ppular and entrenched in ur culture fr years. It’s nt an idim but an verstatement,” said Brke Macnamara, the lead authr. “When it cmes t human skill, a cmplex cmbinatin f envirnmental factrs and genetic factrs explains the perfrmance differences acrss peple.”
Macnamara and her clleagues set ut t repeat part f the 1993 study t see whether they reached the same cnclusin. They interviewed three grups f 13 vilinists regarded as best, gd, r less accmplished abut their practice habits, befre having them cmplete daily diaries f their activities ver a week. While the less skillful vilinists reached an average f abut 6,000 hurs f practice by the age f 20, there was little t separate the gd frm the best, with each reaching an average f abut 11,000 hurs. In all, the number f hurs spent practising accunted fr abut a quarter f the skill difference acrss the three grups.
Macnamara believes practice is less f a driver. “Once yu get t the highly skilled grups, practice stps accunting fr the difference. Everyne has practised a lt and ther factrs are at play in determining wh ges n t a higher level,” she said. “The factrs depend n the skill being learned: in chess it culd be intelligence r wrking memry; in sprt it may be hw efficiently a persn uses xygen. T cmplicate matters further, ne factr can drive anther. Children wh enjy playing the vilin, fr example, may be happy t practise because they d nt see it as a truble.”
The authrs f the 1993 study are unimpressed. Macnamara said it was imprtant fr peple t understand the limits f practice, thugh. “Practice makes yu better than yu were yesterday, mst f the time,” she said. “But it might nt make yu better than yur neighhur r the ther kid in yur vilin class.”
    24. What des the underlined wrd “entrenched” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
    A. Rted.B. Advanced.C. Changed.D. Uncnfirmed.
    25. What can we learn abut Macnamara’s study?
    A. It cnvinced Malclm Gladwell.B. It invlved vilinists and pianists.
    C. Its prcess was similar t the 1993 study.D. Its result is cnsistent with the 1993 study.
    26. What des Macnamara find abut highly skilled peple?
    A. Practicing fr 11,000 hurs is their main driver.
    B. They enjy keeping diaries abut their prgress.
    C. Envirnmental factrs have little relatin t their success.
    D. Mre practice makes little difference t their further prgress.

What may well be the ldest metal cins in the wrld have been identified at an ancient abandned city knwn as Guanzhuang in China. Like many Brnze Age (青铜时代) cins frm the regin, they were cast in the shape f spades with finely carved handles. These ancient cins existed during an in-between perid between barter (以物易物) and mney, when cins were a nvel cncept, but everybdy knew that agricultural tls were valuable.
Reading abut this incredible discvery, I kept thinking abut the way mdern peple represent cmputer netwrks by describing machines as having “addresses”, like a huse. We als talk abut ne cmputer using a “prt” t send infrmatin t anther cmputer, as if the data were a flating bat with destinatin. It’s as if we are in the Brnze Age f infrmatin technlgy, grasping desperately fr real-wrld reference t transfrm ur civilizatin.
Nw cnsider what happened t spade cins. Over centuries, metalwrkers made these cins int mre abstract shapes. Sme became almst human figures. Others’ handles were reduced t small half-circles. As spade cins grew mre abstract, peple carved them with number values and the lcatins where they were made. They became mre like mdern cins, flat and cvered in writing. Lking at ne f these later pieces, yu wuld have n idea that they were nce intended t lk like a spade.
This makes me wnder if we will develp an entirely new set f symbls that allw us t interact with ur digital infrmatin mre smthly.
Taking spade cins as ur guide, we can guess that far-future cmputer netwrks will n lnger cntain any recgnizable references t huses. But they still might bring sme f the ideas we assciate with hme t ur mind. In fact, cmputer netwrks — if they still exist at all — are likely t be almst the indispensable part f ur huses and cities, their sensrs inset with walls and rads. Our netwrk addresses might actually be the same as ur street addresses. If climate change leads t flds, ur mbile devices might lk mre like bats than phnes, assisting us t land.
My pint is that the metaphrs f the infrmatin age aren’t randm. Mbile devices d ffer us cmfrt after a lng day at wrk. In sme sense, ur desire t settle n the shres f data lakes culd change the way we understand hme, as well as hw we build cmputers. S as we cast ur minds frward, we have t think abut what new abstractins will g alng with ur infrmatin technlgy. Perhaps the ne thing we cunt n is that humans will still appreciate the cmfrts f hme.
    28. Why were many Brnze Age cins made int the shape f a spade?
    A. Because a lt f emphasis was put n agriculture.
    B. Because this stylish design made the cins valuable.
    C. Because these cins als served as agricultural tls.
    D. Because the handles made the cins easily exchanged.
    29. Why des the authr relate cmputers t spade cins in Paragraph 2?
    A. T shw they bth used t be new cncepts when first invented.
    B. T explain abstract digital wrlds are different frm cncrete cins.
    C. T suggest cmputers will experience dramatic changes as cins did.
    D. T highlight their same imprtance in ur civilizatinal transfrmatin.
    30. What des the underlined wrd “indispensable” in Paragraph 5 prbably mean?
    A. Flexible.B. Essential.C. Wasteful.D. Alternative.
    31. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
    A. What Cins and Cmputers Bring Us
    B. Hw Agriculture Lses t Digital Industry
    C. Hw Brnze Age Develps t Infrmatin Age
    D. What Ancient Mney Tells Us Abut the Future IT

Peple with a rare genetic disrder knwn as Prader-Willi syndrme never feel full, and this excess hunger can lead t life-threatening besity (肥胖症). Scientists studying the prblem have nw fund that the fist-shaped structure knwn as the cerebellum (小脑) -- which had nt previusly been linked t hunger -- is key t regulating satiatin (饱食) in thse with this cnditin.
This finding is the latest in a series f discveries revealing that the cerebellum, lng thught t be primarily invlved in mvement harmny, als plays a brad rle in cgnitin, emtin and behavir. “We’ve pened up a whle field f cerebellar cntrl f fd intake,” says Albert Chen, a neurscientist at the Scintilln Institute in Califrnia.
The prject began with an accidental bservatin: Chen and his team nticed they culd make mice stp eating by activating small pckets f neurns(神经元) in regins knwn as the anterir deep cerebellar nuclei (aDCN), within the cerebellum. Fascinated, the researchers gathered data using functinal MRI t cmpare brain activity in 14 peple wh had Prader-Willi syndrme with activity in 14 unaffected peple while each testee viewed images f fd -- either immediately fllwing a meal r after fasting (禁食) fr at least fur hurs.
New analysis f these scans revealed that activity in the same regins Chen’s grup had accurately pinted ut in mice, the aDCN, appeared t be significantly disturbed in humans with Prader-Willi syndrme. In healthy individuals, the aDCN were mre active in respnse t fd images while fasting than just after a meal, but n such difference was identifiable in participants with the disrder. The result suggested that the aDCN were invlved in cntrlling hunger. Further experiments n mice, cnducted by researchers frm several different institutins, demnstrated that activating the animals’ aDCN neurns dramatically reduced fd intake by weakening hw the brain’s pleasure center respnds t fd.
Fr years neurscientists studying appetite fcused mainly either n the hypthalamus, a brain area invlved in regulating energy balance, r n reward-prcessing centers such as the nucleusaccumbens (伏隔核). But this grup has identified a new feeding center in the brain, says Elanr Hintn, a neurscientist at the University f Bristl in England wh was nt invlved with the study. “I’ve been wrking in appetite research fr the past 15 years r s, and the cerebellum has just nt been a target,” Hintn says. “I think this is ging t be imprtant bth fr Prader-Willi syndrme and, much mre widely, t address besity in the general ppulatin.”
    32. Befre the recent study, what had scientists assumed?
    A. The cerebellum helped cntrl everyday fd intake.
    B. The cerebellum played a minr rle in mvement harmny.
    C. The cerebellum had nthing t d with appetite regulatin.
    D. The cerebellum had a direct link t behaviral develpment.
    33. Accrding t the prject cnducted by the researchers, which f the fllwing is true?
    A. The healthy testees were mre likely t vereat after fasting.
    B. Fd images increased the appetite f the testees with Prader-Willi syndrme.
    C. The aDCN in the healthy testees respnded t fd images mre actively after fasting.
    D. The aDCN in the testees with Prader-Willi syndrme made n respnse t fd images.
    34. What des Elanr Hintn imply abut future appetite research?
    A. It may help in the early diagnsis f Prader-Willi syndrme.
    B. It will have brader implicatins fr the treatment f besity.
    C. The ptential feeding center in human brain remains t be discvered.
    D. Mre studies are needed t understand the link between appetite and reward-prcessing.
    35. What des the passage mainly talk abut?
    A. Hw ur brain cntrls vereating.
    B. Hw the aDCN wrks up ur appetite.
    C. Hw Prader-Willi syndrme can be prevented.
    D. Hw lwering fd intake benefits ur verall health.

第二段划线词句的上一句“Gladwell states that enugh practice will make an expert f anyne.(Gladwell指出,足够多的练习将使任何人成为专家。)”中 Gladwell提出了谚语“Practice makes perfect”的观点,再根据划线词句“The idea has been ppular and entrenched in ur culture fr years.(多年来,这个观点已经很流行,并在我们的文化中entrenched。)”
根据第三段中“Macnamara and her clleagues set ut t repeat part f the 1993 study t see whether they reached the same cnclusin.( Macnamara和她的同事重复了1993年的部分研究,看看他们是否能得出相同的结论。)”
根据第四段中“Macnamara believes practice is less f a driver.( Macnamara认为,练习并不是唯一的驱动因素。)”以及她所说的“Once yu get t the highly skilled grups, practice stps accunting fr the difference. Everyne has practised a lt and ther factrs are at play in determining wh ges n t a higher level.(一旦你进入了高技能人群,练习就不能解释这种差异了。每个人都做了很多练习,其他因素在决定谁能上更高的水平上起作用)”可推知,Macnamara认为更多练习对高技能的人的进一步继续进步没有多大影响。故选D项。
27.B【解析】主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段“A study f vilinists fund that merely gd players practised as much as better players, leaving ther factrs such as quality f educatin, learning skills and perhaps natural talent t accunt fr the difference.(一项对小提琴家的研究发现,优秀的小提琴手和更优秀的小提琴手仅仅是练习的次数一样多,这时,其他因素,如教育质量、学习技巧,也许还有天生的天赋,就是造成这种差异的原因。)”
    【答案】28.A29.D30.B31.D
根据第一段中“These ancient cins existed during an in-between perid between barter(以物易物) and mney, when cins were a nvel cncept, but everybdy knew that agricultural tls were valuable.(这些古币存在于物物交换和货币交换之间的一个时期,当时硬币还是一个新奇的概念,但每个人都知道农业工具是有价值的。)” 故选A。
根据第二段中“It's as if we are in the Brnze Age f infrmatin technlgy, grasping desperately fr real-wrld reference t transfrm ur civilizatin. (我们仿佛处于信息技术的青铜时代,拼命地寻找现实世界的参考来改变我们的文明。)”可知,作者通过提及青铜时代的货币提到了如今的电脑科技世界,是因为二者具有共同的特点即铁锹货币在青铜时代改变的文明中起着重要作用,电脑科技在我们当今时代改变文明中也发挥着重要作用。即强调它们在我们的文明变革中同样重要。故选D。
30.词义猜测题。根据倒数第二段中“part f ur huses and cities, their sensrs inset with walls and rads. Our netwrk addresses might actually be the same as ur street addresses.”(计算机网络是我们房屋和城市的一部分,它们的传感器嵌入了墙壁和道路。

根据文章第四段“ In healthy individuals, the aDCN were mre active in respnse t fd images while fasting than just after a meal, but n such difference was identifiable in participants with the disrder. (在健康个体中,与饭后相比,禁食时aDCN对食物图像的反应更为积极,但在患有这种疾病的参与者中没有发现这种差异。)”可知,健康受试者的aDCN在禁食后对食物图像的反应更积极。故选C。
34.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“I think this is ging t be imprtant bth fr Prader-Willi syndrme and, much mre widely, t address besity in the general ppulatin.(我认为这对Prader-Willi综合征以及更广泛地解决普通人群的肥胖问题都很重要。)”
