    三、阅读单选
People of all ages can improve their communities through volunteer work. Lending a hand to a person or organization in need is a great way to show your care. Volunteering has been shown to increase confidence and self-esteem (自尊) while helping people to attain a real sense of satisfaction.
Keep a watchful eye out and you are likely to see volunteers in many roles. Volunteers support others with everything from homework to transportation needs in a community. If you are interested in volunteering in your community, you might want to consider:
◇Walking a dog or doing yard work for a neighbor who is not able to complete these tasks on their own.
    ◇Reading stories to younger children.
    ◇Participating in a community garden.
◇Helping out at a local pet shelter.
◇Cleaning up a park or helping to beautify your school grounds.
    ◇Completing extra work at home.
Volunteering benefits everyone involved (涉及到的). As people volunteer, they gain experience and discover hidden talents. Participating in service projects regularly reduces stress and makes people healthier. Volunteering brings people together and strengthens the community. As people step forward to lend a hand, they develop a sense of pride and identity.
Through volunteer work, people learn a lot about how their community works and get to know others who are dedicated (奉献) to having a real and lasting influence on the world. As stated long ago by Aesop, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
Always remember you can make a difference to the world. Everyone can be great because anyone can serve.
26.What does the underlined word “attain” mean in the passage?

27.If you are interested in volunteering in your community, you might want to consider the following EXCEPT ________.
A.reading stories to younger children B.participating in a community garden
C.taking care of the baby for your neighbor D.cleaning up a park
28.The writer wants to tell people ________ in the second paragraph.
A.how to learn about the community as they volunteer B.the reason to keep a watchful eye out as they volunteer
C.some of the ways people volunteer in a community D.how to help at home
29.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.As people volunteer, they gain experience and discover hidden talents.

D.Participating in service projects regularly reduces stress and makes people luckier.
30.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Walking a dog for a neighbor is one way of volunteering.
    B.Volunteering benefits everyone involved (涉及到的).
C.People can volunteer by helping out at a local pet shelter.
D.Lending a hand to a person in need is the only way to show your care.

On a weekend during Spring Festival, my parents and I were sitting in a restaurant. The drinks and food were good, so when we finished, my father left a tip(小费). As we were about to open the door, the waiter caught up with us. He gave the tip back to us. My dad forgot that here is China, and tipping is not common.
However, in some countries, tipping is the norm. That’s the way it is in the US. It’s said to be good manners to tip your waiter, taxi driver, hairdresser, doorman and so on. And how much you tip depends on the service, which can really put your math skills to the test! But we usually give a tip that is 15-20% of the bill.
So why is there a strong custom of tipping? In the US, waiters have a very low income(收入). They depend on tips to pay their bills. As a US writer once wrote about her experience as a waitress, “It was difficult and I lived and died by my tips."
31.What did the family think of the food at the restaurant?
    A.Delicious. B.Cheap. C.Cold.
32.Where were the parents when the waiter stopped them?
A.At the table. B.At the door. C.Outside the restaurant.
33.What does the underlined word “norm” mean in Paragraph 2?
    A.Idea. B.Custom. C.Bill.
34.What can be the tip for a $100 bill according to the writer?
    A.$8. B.$10. C.$18.
35.The last paragraph mainly tells us __________.
A.who need tips for their life
B.how the US writer made her life
C.why tipping is popular in the US
