Writer Lu Xun is a cultural giant of the 20th century in China. His influence goes far beyond literature to the world of ideas, art and even politics.
Zhou Shuren(1881-1936), more commonly known by his pen name Lu Xun, is often called “the father of modern Chinese literature”. He believed in the idea of “literature as a vehicle for a moral message”. As a critic of the social problems of the early 20th century, he wanted to inspire his fellow people.
His famous works include A Madman's Diary, a critical attack on traditional values, and The True Story of Ah Q, about a day laborer who wishes to participate in the revolution of 1911 without any understanding. The former was also the first work to be written entirely in the everyday language spoken by ordinary people. His stories wrote about the ugly side of human nature and transformed people's minds as a result.
His writing did not come easily, which might be different from what many believe about writers. His friends finally persuaded him to write in 1918, when the words, as he later put it, “[ did] not pour out of me but [had]to be squeezed(挤)out”. Therefore, he considered 1918 as the year he set out as a writer, according to How the True Story of Ah Q Was Written in the Selected Works of Lu Xun.
Lu Xun's writing had a large influence throughout China. For years, his works have been included in Chinese textbooks. The Lu Xun Literature Prize, a major literature prize in China, is named after him. He is a master of irony, which makes his works very difficult to translate. But there have been a few translators who have successfully done so. Therefore, his work have also received attention internationally. He is respected "not only as a nation-builder but also, and perhaps most importantly, as the voice of the nation's conscience(良知).”
24. What can we learn about Lu Xun's works from the first three paragraphs?
A. The True Story of Ah Q was written to attack traditional values.
B. A Madman's Diary was written with the help of his friends.
C. They are often sharp criticisms on societal issues.
D. They made great impact on traditional Chinese literature.
25. According to Paragraph 4, how would Lu Xun probably describe his writing?
A. Difficult. B. Satisfactory.
C. Easy to understand. D. Helpful to his fellow people.
26. What makes Lu Xun's works difficult to translate?
A. The large number of citations. B. The careful choice of words.
C. The smart use of irony. D. The use of philosophical ideas.
27. What is the article mainly about?
A. What inspired Lu Xun to start writing.
B. How Lu Xun developed his writing style.
C. Lu Xun's life stories and famous works.
D. Lu Xun's works and his influence.
C
One lunchtime when I was in the third grade will stay with me always.
I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had painstakingly rehearsed(彩排)my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped on stage, every word disappeared from my head.
Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part to the play, and asked me to switch roles. I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practise my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the garden.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine(藤)was turning green. We could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英)popping through the grass in bunches. I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the clumps(花丛). “I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds(杂草),” she said. “From now on, we'll only have roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions.” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful -even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. "Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” she asked thoughtfully. “And that is true of people too," she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened.
“But you will be a beautiful narrator," she said, reminding me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. "The narrator's part is as important as the part of the princess.”
Over the next few weeks, with her constant encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role.
Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines and talking about what I would wear.
28. What happened when the author and her mother were practising the lines?
A. Her mother got very impatient with her.
B. The author couldn't remember the lines.
C. The author was very nervous.
D. Her mother put great effort in helping her.
29. How did the teacher deal with the author's problem of being nervous on stage?
A. She gave the author another two days for preparation.
B. She asked the author to change her part.
C. She persuaded the author to quit.
D. She changed the lines of the author's role.
30. Why did the author protest when her mother tried to dig up all the weeds in the garden?
A. Because the dandelions the author loved would be dug up.
B. Because the roses would be ruined completely.
C. Because the author wanted to practise the lines at that time.
D. Because it was harmful to the environment.
31. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. The author cared more about what to wear in the play.
B. The author only practised the lines during lunchtimes.
C. The author liked the new part she got.
D. The author gave up the role in the end.
D
You may have heard that the corona virus pandemie is over. This opinion is common and COVID-19's ranking among international news agendas has fallen since the start of the year, displaced by a host of other stories, including war, Roe v Wade, food and energy crises, extreme heatwaves and a political soap opera in the UK government.
And yet there are now more confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally than there were at any point during the first two years of the pandemic, as the BA. 4 and BA.5 omicron sub-variants(亚变异型)spread worldwide and contribute to the UK's fifth wave of surging COVID-19 infections.
Due to cutbacks in mass testing, it is perhaps more difficult than ever to get a clear picture of the pandemic's current status. Fortunately, the randomized testing survey conducted by the UK's official statistics agency continues to give a picture of the country's infections-although with a roughly nine-day time lag(时间差)in which infection numbers could peak, stabilize or rise dramatically without us knowing.
The wide roll-out of vaccines in some countries has avoided many deaths—20 million globally, according to one study. But the vaccines' protection against the corona virus has never been 100 percent, and as ever-more-transmissible variants continue to come out, increasing infection numbers will always mean more deaths. COVID-19 was the underlying(潜在的)cause of 166 deaths in England and Wales in the week ending 24 June, the most recent official data available. Many questions about the virus also remain, ranging from the long-term effects it has on our organs to the impact of catching it multiple times.
No one wants to return to mass lock-downs. But two-and-a-half years of research has provided us with tools for controlling infections, from rapid testing and isolation(隔离)to behaviour change and masking, as well as the knowledge that ventilation(呼吸机)is important. To best make use of these valuable tools, we need a full, data-informed understanding of the current state of play.
32. What contributes to more confirmed cases now?
A. Fewer people wearing masks. B. The lack of ventilators.
C. The wide spread of BA. 4 and BA.5 omicron. D. The more advanced medical equipment.
33. The survey made by the UK's official statistics is_________.
A. accurate enough to deal with the pandemic B. not telling us what is happening now
C. full of mistakes in the country's infections D. the reason for cutbacks in mass testing
34. What's the main idea of paragraph 4?
A. The wide roll-out of vaccines has cut down the deaths.
B. The reason why the vaccines' protection against the corona virus is not 100 per cent.
C. The long-term effect the virus has on our organs.
D. The corona virus pandemic is not over now.
35. How can we better control the infections according to the last paragraph?
A. By getting more data of the current pandemic.
B. By spending more money on the vaccine.
C. By testing more people when infections occur.
D. By having larger lock-downs.

第二节(满分25分)
A warm and sunny afternoon on a holiday, birds were singing and flowers were waving in the breeze. The sunshine cast beautiful shadows among the leaves. Susan was sitting in the room and doing the weaving(编织)task her grandmother had set, absent-minded.
A group of little girls came up to Susan from outside, jumping and talking happily. Rose, her best friend, asked Susan if she would like to play in the woods with them. Susan sighed and refused. After all, she had to finish the job first. The girls argued it must be rather tiresome to stay at home on such a good day. They commented that Susan's grandmother was too strict. After hearing this, Susan bent her head.
As they disappeared in the distance, she could picture what would happen to these little crazy creatures. However, her heart sank. She was thinking of the crown(皇冠)game—the girl's favorite. She was sure that she would be the queen if she were there. Suddenly, an idea flashed into her mind. Perhaps there might be no harm if she moved the mark Grandmother had put in the stocking(长筒袜). After a while, she told her grandmother that she had made it, her heart beating wildly. Grandmother was shocked, but took the work, surveying it very closely. Then laying great stress on each word, she told Susan it was true, because she had counted twenty turns from the mark. Besides, she believed Susan had never cheated her. "Susan, go and amuse yourself as you like," Grandma said, gently patting her on the head. Susan's cheeks turned red, but she rushed out and even forgot to say thanks.
The girls were excited and surprised to see Susan join their company. Soon, the woods were bursting with the elves'(小精灵)laughter. Not a moment later, Susan sat on the grass, feeling guilty. She did cheat. When her companions ran about enjoying themselves, Susan wished she were at home admitting her fault.

应用文范文
Dear Eric,
How are you? I’m writing to inform you of some relevant arrangement about the visit this Sunday.
According to the schedule, we are going to pay a visit to the Palace Museum this Sunday. Be sure to arrive at the school gate before 8:00 a. m. as we will go there by bus altogether. At about 8:40 a. m, we’ll visit the museum following a guide. The visit will be over at around 12:00, and then we’ll return by bus.
Please observe public order, keep quiet and avoid running. Video recording and flash photography are forbidden in the museum so you’d better take some notes since we have to write a review after the visit. Hope you enjoy the visit!
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写范文
Finally, the exciting moment came and all girls decided to make a crown of flowers. Rose and Susan were to make the crown with the flowers picked by other girls. Soon, a fancy crown was made! The girls heatedly discussed who should be the queen. One tall thin girl said Susan was to wear it for she behaved best both at home and school, and others nodded with a smile. Here came the thrilling ceremony. Unexpectedly, Susan stood still not a bit excited and then snatched the crown off and threw it on the ground.
The girls looked at her with surprise. Tears welling up in her eyes, Susan explained that she had cheated her grandmother to play in the woods with them. Rose comforted her and said she was great to admit her fault. Drying her tears, Susan ran home and told everything to her grandmother. To her relief, her grandmother said, “I knew it, but I hope you would tell me yourself.” Susan’s cheeks turned red, and made up her mind that she would never tell a lie again.
