It wasn't exactly a huge shock, as I hadn't practiced medicine for quite a while. But I found it a big deal on an emotional level to permanently close this chapter of my life. When clearing out boxes of old paperwork, I noticed a training portfolio (档案袋).All doctors arerecommended to log their clinical experience in it. On looking through this portfolio for the first time inyears, my reflective practice seemed to involve going up to my hospital on-call room and writing downanything remotely interesting that had happened that day.Besides these, I was reminded of the long hours and the huge impact being a junior doctor had onmy life. Reading back, it felt extreme and unreasonable in terms of what was expected of me,but at thetime I'd just accepted it as part of the job.Around the same time that I was reliving all this through my diaries, junior doctors in the here andnow were coming under fire from politicians. I couldn't help but feel doctors were struggling to gettheir side of the story across and it struck me that the public weren't hearing the truth about what itactually means to be a doctor. Rather than shrugging my shoulders and ignoring the evidence,I decidedI had to do something to redress the balance. So here they are: the diaries I kept during my time in the hospital. What it's like working onthefront line, the consequences in my personal life, and how, one terrible day, it all became too much forme. (Sorry for revealing what is in my book beforehand.)Along the way, I'll help you out with the medical terms and provide a bit of context about whateach job involved. Unlike being a junior doctor, I won't just drop you in the deep end and expect you toknow exactly what you're doing.24.What does the writer think of his removal from the medical register?A. It didn't affect him at all.    B.It weighed heavily on his mind.C. It came as a shocking news for him.  D. It opened a new chapter of life for him.25. Which of the following can describe the writer's feeling as a junior doctor?A.Satisfied but tired.     B.Ambitious but frustrated.C.Bored and stressed.     D.Angry and uncomfortable.26.Which of the following best explains “redress the balance” underlined in Paragraph 5?A. Argue with politicians.    B. Tell the full story of doctors.C.Collect more solid evidence.   D. Win the support of the public.27. What does the writer intend to do by writing this article?A. Reveal what it means to be a junior doctor.B. Inform readers of some medical knowledge.C. Give some background information on a book.D. Encourage more people to practice medicine.CWithin the last decade, adult coloring books have surged in popularity. The vast selection availabletoday includes abstract images, mandalas (圆形图案) and your beloved characters ranging fromMarvelto Disney and anything in between. Themes aside, these books have often been best sellers and claim toprovide users with the opportunity to connect with their inner artists and live happier lives. But do they? I have heard friends, family, students and clients all share their personalpleasureexperiences with adult coloring books. And honestly, I truly enjoy my own. Nevertheless,I recognizethatjustbecausemy personal interpretation tendsto be echoed in those around me does not mean thatan illustration a day keeps the sorrows away. But what is it about these books that is so inviting? Is it the nostalgia (怀旧) for the free coloringwe experienced as children? Perhaps it gives us a creative outlet to break our rigid routines? Or could itbe the mindfulness achieved as we disconnect from chaos and connect to the present? A previous study provided support for adult coloring books. Curry and Kasser investigated a groupof undergraduates with anxiety, provided them either with a blank page or a mandala, and instructedthem to color for 20 minutes. Both designs reduced anxiety, but the mandala was slightly moreeffective. In a recent study, experts utilized randomized controlled experiments to explore the differencesbetween coloring and a free drawing. In one experiment, there were no differences in between anunguided coloring group and a free drawing. However, in a second experiment, participants wereassigned to either a guided or unguided mandala coloring group, and although no differences werenoted in mindfulness, those in a guided group did show a reduction in anxiety. It seems as though adult coloring books are therapeutic (治疗的), but theyare not substitutes fortherapy. There may be benefits, but the personal process may be different from the growth oneencounters in therapy. If you do enjoy this artistic activity and hope to improve your mental health, perhaps you will benefit from seeking a creative practitioner or an art therapist to help you along thejourney.28. What does the writer think of the adult coloring books in the first two paragraphs?A.They can help ease anxiety.   B. They can help gain some pleasure.C. They can help contact their inner artists.  D. They can help readers live happier lives.29. People may buy a coloring book for any of the following reasons EXCEPT______ A. to concentrate on what they are doingB. to relive the past joy of doing coloringC.to relate to their-friends and their family betterD. to take a break from their dull everyday routine30. What can we learn from the studies about the reduction of anxiety?A. Both studies share the same method.B. Both studies indicate mandala works better than others.C.The recent study proves the effectiveness of being guided.D.The previous study proves the effectiveness of being instructed.31.What is the main idea of this text?A. Adult coloring books are beneficial to some extent.B.Adult coloring books have both their pros and oons.  'C. Adult coloring books have more effects than we expected.D. Adult coloring books can be used as a medical treatment in reducing anxiety.DAbsence of evidence is not, as the saying goes, the same thing as evidence of absence. But if youcontinue looking for something intensively and keep failing to find it, you can be forgiven for startingto worry. And so it is with grammar teaching in schools and its link with the improved writing·ability. One study among many others, in this case, found that teaching kids how to label the hits and pieces in a sentence does not make them better writers. It was novel in that it tested six- and seven-year-olds who used a digital platform called Englicious to take grammar lessons alongside the rote (死记硬背的) classroom teaching of grammatical details and their functions. The Englicious group did nobetter than those receiving ordinary instruction when it came to writing narrative passages.Bath Aarts, one of the researchers on the project and one of the scholars behind Englicious holdsout hope that with longer exposure, or a study of older students, an improvement in writing skills mightbe detected.Other observers may begin to wonder whether the National Curriculum in England, which since2014 has made grammar such a central part of its English program might have gone down a blind alley. In retrospect(回顾过去),the grammatical knowledge of modal verbs such as “can”“should” and“may” does little to help students use them effectively in their own writing. These words are anywaygrasped by tiny children without the need to know what they are called. This may tempt the conclusionthat the teaching of grammar should be shelved altogether. But there are reasons to reform it rather thanscrap it.One of practical reasons to ask children to work on grammar is that explicit knowledge of it willmake learning a foreign language easier. Even if you did intuit(凭直觉知道) how to make nounclauses in your native languages as a very young kid just without instruction, grasping them in Germanor Russian in later years is simpler if you know how to define and spot them. In fact, many Englishspeakers come to understand grammar by studying a foreign language rather than the other way around.32.Why does the author mention “absence of evidence is not the same thing as evidence of absence”A. To introduce the passage with a largely unsupported assumption.B.To show that there is no need to worry about the failure of grammar teaching.C. To demonstrate that researchers should try harder to support grammar teaching.D. To imply the existence of connection between grammar teaching and better writing skill.33.Which of the following is incorrect according to paragraphs 2 and 3?A. Many studies have shown that grammar lessons don't help with writing skills.B.Longer exposure to digital grammar lessons can effectively improve writing skills.C. This study stands out from previous ones because it involves an e-learning platform.D. The project's researcher Bas Aarts expects the system to be useful for high school students.34 What does the underlined word “shelves” mean?A.Suspended.  B.Placed.  C.Divided.   D.Supported.35. What is the writer's attitude toward the future of grammar?A.Neutral.  B.Supportive.  C.Negative.   D.Confused.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Ways for you to get over post-series bluesWe all have those pangs of stress around the last few episodes of our current favorite TV show, about the crossroad where there will be no “Next Episode” button to click.
