Almst everyne agrees n the ht dg basics: a lng bread rll with a ht sausage inside it. And that’s what has led t a big questin — is a ht dg a sandwich, r is it in a special categry f its wn?
“Peple have really strng pinins n bth sides,” says Eric Mittenthal, president f the Natinal Ht Dg and Sausage Cuncil (NHDSC). In Nvember, the cuncil published an fficial annuncement ruling that the ht dg is nt a sandwich. It argues that the ht dg is t significant t be cnsidered “just a sandwich.” The cuncil admits that the ht dg was nce the “Frankfurter sandwich,” but says that peple n lnger use that name. Tday, n ne wuld call a ht dg eating cntest a sandwich eating cntest.
But thers disagree. The U.S. Department f Agriculture (USDA) includes a sausage inside a
bread rll in its sandwich categry. But it als calls the fd a “sandwich type prduct”. In May, dictinary publisher Merriam Webster said that the ht dg is a sandwich. The Merriam Webster’s Cllegiate Dictinary, 11th Editin, defines a sandwich as “tw r mre slices f bread r a split rll having a filling in between” r “ne slice f bread cvered with fd”. The annuncement fueled a heated debate amng ht dg fans. If ht dgs are sandwiches, where d yu draw the line? Are burrits (玉米馅饼) sandwiches t?
This debate wn’t stp Americans frm eating piles f ht dgs this summer. During peak ht dg
seasn — frm Memrial Day t Labr Day — Americans will eat abut 7 billin f them. That’s 818 ht dgs cnsumed every secnd. Peple lve ht dgs s much that in 2015, a ht dg emji was released s peple can easily tweet r text an image f the famus fd. This may cme in handy sn, since July is Natinal Ht Dg Mnth.

The New Yrker’s Jhn Seabrk recently described a mre pwerful versin f this technlgy, called GPT-2, which can ably mimic (模拟) his magazine’s style. Such systems use a digital netwrk f billins f artificial “neurns” (神经元) with virtual “synapses” — the cnnectins between neurns — that strengthen as the netwrk “learns”, in this case frm 40 gigabytes(千兆字节)— wrth f nline writing. The versin Mr. Seabrk tested was plished with back-issues f the New Yrker.
The metaphr f the brain is attractive, but “neurns” and “synapses” deserve thse scare-qutes ( 双引号). The system is merely making sme—admittedly very cmplex—statistical guesses abut which wrds fllw which in a New Yrker-style sentence.
What escapes cmputers is creativity. They cannt create a tpic r gal n their wn, much less plan hw t get there with lgic and style. At varius pints in the nline versin f his article, readers can see hw GPT-2 wuld have carried n writing Mr. Seabrk’s piece fr him. The writing gives the impressin f being human. But n clser inspectin it is empty, even incherent.
Meaningless writing is the preserve f artificial intelligence. But t truly write, yu must first have smething t say. Cmputers d nt. They await instructins. T cmpse meaningful essays, the likes f GPT-2 will first have t be integrated with databases f real-wrld knwledge.
Why des the authr mentin Gmail in the first paragraph?
    A. T prepare fr the intrductin f the tpic.B. T advertise the pwerful Gmail.
    C. T describe the feature f Gmail.D. T prve the strength f the Gmail.
In what way is GPT-2 mre pwerful than Gmail?
    A. It is creative.B. It has neurns with synapses.
    C. It can ffer quick answers.D. It can fllw a certain writing style.
What can we learn frm the last tw paragraphs?
GPT-2 is pwerful because it is integrated t real-wrld knwledge.
GPT-2 has already been able t write meaningful essays.
GPT-2 still has a lng way t write like humans.
GPT-2 can help Mr. Seabrk with writing very well.
Where is the passage taken frm?
    A. A brchure.B. An advertisement.
    C. A magazine.D. An essay.
