Ever since my childhood, I have been hearing people talking about Rome. Last month, I finally had the chance to visit it. I spent three busy days there, seeing tourist attractions and walking down streets lit by Christmas decorations. There are so many things I love about the city.
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in the world and is full of wonderful relics(遗迹)from its long past. These monuments include the vast Coliseum(竞技场)where gladiators used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another country. The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating: you can't quite believe how old they are.
I studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance at university and was very excited to see them in real life. I walked around the museum in the Vatican and saw plenty of famous sculptures. The best part of the visit was, without doubt, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted in the early 16th century by Michelangelo. It was so breathtaking that I couldn't tear my eyes away from it.
In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn't of very good quality. I made an effort to find reliable restaurants to taste the popular meals of the region, like pasta with tomato, onion and bacon. I also love eating ice cream and hot chocolate under the Christmas lights.
Rome has not only lots of luxury boutiques (精品店)but also plenty of shops that were more in my price range! It was a perfect opportunity to go and buy presents for my family and friends. There was also a Christmas market, where I bought a sparkly decoration for the tree.

A fire swallowed a warehouse on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, threatening to spread to a historic World War II-era ship before firefighters controlled it. One firefighter got a hand injury while battling the fire.
After the fire, investigators searched the building to determine whether homeless people were inside. "We're trying to confirm if anybody is in this building," San Francisco Fire Lt. Jonathan Baxter said. "Nobody is supposed to be in the building and we are hoping that there is no victim."
However, at least two workers were inside the warehouse when the fire broke out before dawn. Alejandro Arellano was cleaning out a fish storage locker when the fire began, shortly after 4 a. m.. The first thing Eileen Korey noticed when she got into the car that Wednesday afternoon in early May was a small diamond ring in the tray(托盘)between the front seats. It hadn't been there before. Weeks earlier, she had taken the car in to have the airbag replaced. The car belonged to her daughter and son-in-law and she was helping them out. Now she was picking it up. That's when she saw the ring. Korey.64, of Lake Oswego quickly contacted her daughter and son-in-law to ask if they were missing a diamond ring or if any of their friends had reported losing a ring. They both wrote back, saying they had no idea what she was talking about.
Korey took the ring to the service desk at the garage to ask if any women technicians might have left a ring in the car while they were working on it. The woman behind the counter said only men worked on the cars.
Korey asked if the desk clerk could get information from the guy who had replaced the airbag. Over a two-way radio(对讲机), Helbt said he'd placed the ring in the tray when it dropped to the car's floor after he opened up the steering column to replace the airbag. He was not sure how it got there.
She knew a friend who was a jeweler and stopped by to have her look at the ring to see if it was real. Her friend said the diamond, set in a white gold hand, was worth $ 1,200 and Korey could easily sell it for $ 500. But she wouldn't sell it. After making sure the ring didn't belong to anyone in her family-or anyone at the auto shop Korey tracked down the first owner of the car using paperwork she found in the glove box. Her detective work led her to a dealership in Beaverton, and the car's first owners: Daniel and Ashleigh Hannah. They had purchased the small ring when they got engaged and were saving money to buy a house.
