It’s not easy being a teenager-nor is it easy being the parent of a teenager. You can make your child feel angry, hurt, or misunderstood by what you say without realizing it yourself. It is important to give your child the space he needs to grow while gently letting him know that you you’ll still be there for him when he needs you.
Expect a lot from your child, just not everything. Except for health and safety problems, such as drug use or careless driving, consider everything else open to discussion. If your child is unwilling to discuss something, don’t insist he tell you what’s on his mind. The more you insist, the more likely that he’ll clam up. Instead, let him attempt to solve things by himself. At the same time, remind him that you’re always there for him should he seek advice or help. Show respect for your teenager’s privacy (隐私). Never read his mail or listen in on personal conversions.
Teach your teenager that the family phone is for the whole family. If your child talks on the family’s telephone for too long, tell him he can talk for 15 minutes, but then he must stay off the phone for at least an equal period of time. This not only frees up the line so that other family members can make and receive calls, but teaches your teenager moderation(节制). Or if you are open to the idea, allow your teenager his own phone that he pays for with his own pocket money or a part-time job.
24.The main purpose of the text is to tell parents _______.
A.how to play with a teenager
B.how to help a teenager grow up
C.how to understand a teenager
D.how to respect a teenager
25.What does the phrase “clam up” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.become excited B.show respect
C.refuse to talk D.seek help
26.The last paragraph is about how to teach a teenager _______.
A.to use the phone in a sensible way B.to pay for his own telephone
C.to share the phone quickly D.to answer the phone quickly
27.What should parents do in raising a teenager according to the text?
A.Not allow him to learn driving or take drugs.
B.Not talk about personal things with him.
C.Give him advice only when necessary.
D.Let him have his own telephone.

Dear Daisy,
Phew! I'm so glad the day is over. I'm really tired, but my first day at school went well.
First of all, we met outside the school building.I was very nervous because my primary school only had 300 pupils but in the middle school there are about 1,300.What a difference! The older pupils are really big.I felt so small waiting there in front of the school.
The head teacher came out and told us to go into the school hall. Then he called our names out to tell us which class we were in. My class teacher is called Mrs. Black. She took us to our classroom. It's on the 5th floor. We aren't allowed to use the lift! I couldn't believe it.
We spent all morning with Mrs.Black looking at our timetables.Everyone in the school had a different timetable.I'm worried that I'll forget my timetable and go to the wrong room.
Lunchtime was OK. I had salad, fish and fruit, which was quite good, and then I went to play football with some of the other boys. They were all friendly and I don't think it will take me long to make friends.
After lunch we started lessons. I had maths and then history, where we started to learn about ancient Greece. That looked interesting.I have to do some homework tonight to find out how the ancient Greek people lived, so I'm going to do an Internet search and look it up in the library.
So far so good.I am quite looking forward to tomorrow, even though I've got science. I hate science!
Yours,
Jason

In the past several years, air travel has become less appealing for some travellers. Tighter security regulations mean longer waits. Rising fuel prices can lead to more expensive tickets. Despite(尽管) the inconveniences, air travel still has a number of advantages over car, train and bus travel.
For a long distance, air travel is the fastest way to get to your destination, but even on shorter trips planes are much quicker. On a medium-length trip from New York City to Detroit, a flight will take about 4.5 hours—including an hour’s driving to and from the airport and an hour’s waiting in the terminal(终点站) — while a car ride will take 9.5 hours, a bus ride almost 15 hours and a train ride about 16.5 hours. Buses, cars and trains only begin to become competitive on extremely short trips such as from NYC to Philadelphia.
Plane crashes are tragic events that can result in hundreds of deaths. Fortunately, they are extremely rare. According to Chance News, the odds(可能性) of dying on a 1,000-mile flight are significantly less than those from dying on a 100-mile car ride. Car, bus and train travel are also more dangerous than flying on a plane.
The cost of tickets for airplane, bus and train travel can vary greatly. In many cases, however, air travel is the cheapest way. A trip from New York City to Detroit costs $86 by plane. This is comparable to slightly cheaper train tickets ($75) and bus tickets ($80) and cheaper than car travel ($115). On the longer New York City to Los Angeles trip, the advantages of air travel shine: airplane tickets are more than 30 dollars less than train tickets, the cheapest alternative.
32.Which means of transportation takes the longest time from New York City to Detroit?
A.A train ride. B.A car ride.
C.A bus ride. D.A flight.
33.What does the underlined word “shine” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Cast a shadow. B.Are obvious.
C.Are unclear. D.Reflect light.
34.What can be concluded about the writer?
A.He is worried about the safety of air travel.
B.He is familiar with the trip between New York City and Detroit.
C.He prefers travelling by car rather than by bus.
D.He chooses to travel by train while travelling around the US.
35.What’s the best title for the text?
A.The Traffic System in America B.The Disadvantages of Air, Train and Bus Travel
C.Different Ways of Travelling around the US D.The Advantages of Air Travel

Does your mood change with the seasons?
Some people find that when the temperature goes down, so do their spirits. 36.They eat more and gain weight. They have trouble sleeping. They can’t think clearly.
Here are some ways you can beat the winter blues:
Get out in the sun. Some experts say that winter blues happen because we get less sunlight in the winter than we do in other seasons. Some say that the decrease in sunlight can make us feel sad.37.
Get some exercise. A walk or other exercise will make chemicals called endorphins (内啡肽) flow through your body. Endorphins are natural “feel good” chemicals.
38.Avoid having too much sugar. If you are eager for sugary foods (like cookies or candy), it may be a sign that you need more protein , like meat, chicken, or fish.
Avoid holiday stress. Cut back if you have too many things to do. Make sure you have some quiet time to yourself.39.Get some rest. Studies show that most teens need about nine hours of sleep each night. The average teen, though, gets only about six or seven hours of sleep per night.
Get help. Be cautious if you feel sad all the time and the feeling won’t go away.40.
Talk to an adult who you trust or get help from a doctor.
A.Eat more healthy foods.
B.Choose different foods in season.
C.Don’t be so busy that you get tired.
D.Those people sometimes feel sad for no reason.
E.You may have a bigger problem than the winter blues.
