Darrell Blatchley, a marine biologist and environmentalist based in the Philippine city of Davao, received a call from the philippines’ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (渔业与水产资源局) early Friday morning reporting a death of a young whale.
When the necropsy (尸检) was performed, Blatchley told NPR, he was not prepared for the amount of plastic they found in the whale’s stomach. “It was full of plastic- nothing but nonstop plastic,” he said. “It was filled to the point that its stomach was as hard as a baseball.” “That means that this animal has been suffering not for days or weeks but for months or even a year or more.” Blatchley added.
Blatchley is the founder and owner of the D’ Bone Collector Museum, a natural history museum in Davao. In the coming days, the museum will display all the items found in the whale’s system.
Blatchley and his team work with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and other organizations to assist in rescue and recovery of marine animals.
“Within the last 10 years, we have recovered 61 whales and dolphins just within the Davao Gulf,” he said. “Of them, 57 have died due to man --whether they took plastic or fishing nets or other waste, or gotten caught in pollution-- and four were pregnant.”
Blatchley said he hoped that the latest incident would launch the issue of plastic pollution in the Philippines and across the globe. “If we keep going this way, it will be more uncommon to see an animal die of natural causes than it is to see an animal die of plastic.” he said.
21. What can be inferred from the second paragraph?

23. What is the best title for the text?

Mankind will soon be able to discover the far side of the moon as the Chang'e 4 probe(探测器), the first one to touch down on the moon's far side, lifted off at 2:23 am on December 8, 2018.
Affected by Earth, the same side of the moon always faces Earth. The other side, most of which is never seen from Earth, is the far side of the moon. However, it is not a "dark side" of the moon because the far side is as lighted by the sun as the "near side" facing us. Though the far side has been taken pictures of, no probe had ever made a soft-landing on it so scientists around the world expect to be able to make close observations and researches of it.
The program's scientific tasks are to perform special observations, to explore condition of the landing site, and to carry out lunar environmental research. The tasks will enable scientists to discover what they haven't known about the moon. They also can make clearer observations into deep space through Chang'e 4.
Chang'e 4 has been designed to fit the moon surface and communication conditions on the far side of the moon. In addition to Chinese scientific equipment, the Chang'e 4 tasks also include scientific devices(装置) developed by the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
In May, China sent off a satellite, whose task is sending signals(信号) between Chang'e 4 and ground control.
The next step in China's lunar exploration timetable, the Chang'e 5 task, is scheduled for 2019 and will collect samples and then bring them back to Earth.
24. According to the passage, Chang'e 4 will be the first .
A. to take photos of the moon. B. to soft-land on the moon.
C. to soft-land on the far side of the moon. D. to take photos of the far side of the moon.

A. on the earth we can see little of. B. is dark all the year round.
C. scientists have known nothing about. D. faces the earth all the time.
26. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. What Chang'e 4 is made up of.
B. What scientists want Chang'e 4 to do.
C. How Chang'e 4 communicates with ground control.
D. How scientists make lunar environmental research.
27. From the passage we can know .
A. Chang'e 4 can communicate with ground control directly.
B. Chang'e 4 will bring samples back to Earth in 2019.
C. scientists can make clearer observations without Chang'e 4.
D. there is experiment equipment for foreign countries on Chang'e 4.

A number of companies have used the wind and sun to produce energy. Now, one company called ORPC is using the force of flowing rivers and ocean currents(水流). The company recently presented the new technology at an energy conference near Washington, DC.
Christopher Sauer is the chief executive officer of ORPC. He says the technology was designed for small, rural communities that do not have easy access to power sources.
The ORPC technology is an energy generator(发电机) which can be put under water, called RivGen. It works in a series of steps. First, the generator is put in the middle of a steel cage on top of a wide boat. Wheels – or, turbines – are attached to each side of the generator. The boat, cage, and generator all sink to the bottom of the river. There, the river current turns the wheels and creates as much as 50 kilowatts of power.
The turbines are safe for the animals that live in the river. The generator is not very tall, so it can work in water areas that are not very deep. Other companies are not able to work in shallow (浅的)water.
Another feature of the technology are “crossflow turbines(双击式水轮机).” They make the turbines move in the same direction, whatever way the water is flowing. The turbines’shape helps the generator harvest power from tidal currents in the ocean. The company's ocean turbine is called TidGen. It can create up to 600 kilowatts of electricity, enough to power a small settlement. Right now, the amount of power TidGen can harvest changes as the strength of the tide goes up and down. But ORPC workers are trying to make the power harvest steady(稳定的). In time, they want TidGen power to be part of the main energy sources.
28. What does “RivGen” refer to in the text?
A. A boat. B. TidGen. C. An energy generator. D. The ORPC company.
- What is special about ORPC’s generator compared with other companies ?
- It is safe for the sea animals.
- It is suitable for small rural communities.
- It is can work in water that is not deep.
- It can take energy from water movement.
- What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. ORPC is able to make much power at the same speed.
B. The strength of the tide decides on the amount of power.
C. TidGen power has become part of the main energy sources.
D. Water’s flowing helps the turbines move in different directions.
- What’s the purpose of the text ?
- To introduce. B. To sell. C. To educate. D. To prevent.

How to Improve Vocabulary Fast
Your vocabulary refers to the words in a language you are familiar with. We should learn some ways to expand it.
Read every day. 36 Choose reading material that is slightly above your level and keep a dictionary with you to look up words you do not know.
37 If you do not meet with an unfamiliar word in your daily reading, use your dictionary to search for one.
Learn the correct definition and pronunciation for each new word. Pronunciation is as important as definition because in order to add a word to your active vocabulary, you must be able to use it in speech.
Elaborate (详尽阐述) on the meaning of the word. If you have just learned the word “stubborn”, think about the neighbor who will not lend you his car. 38
Use your new word in speech and in writing. Email your sister about how your cat is stubborn about sleeping on your pillow. 39 But the more you use it, the more fluent you will become in its use. Soon it will be a regular part of your active vocabulary.
Tell everyone you are trying to increase your vocabulary. Encourage them to ask you what your latest word is. 40 The more you explain the meaning of a word to someone, the more likely you are to remember it.
A. Find a new word every day.
B. The vocabulary can be increased.
C. Your vocabulary contains the words you understand.
D. The more often you read, the faster your vocabulary can grow.
E. Or let them ask for the definition of a new word you have used.
F. The first time you use a new word in speech it may seem strange.
G. Imagine him shaking his head, and think of him as “stubborn in his refusal”.
