Unit 7 It's raining!Section B 1a-1eTeaching plan:I. Teaching aims:1. Help students to master the words and phrases about weather and activities.2. Enable students to learn to greet people with the target sentence pattern “How is it going?”.3. Lead students to talk about activities and weather flexibly with the target sentences in telephone conversations.4. Improve students’ listening and speaking ability through the listening and speaking tasks.II. Teaching key points:1. Students can master the target words (warm, hot, cool, cold, dry) and talk about weather flexibly.2. Help students to ask about what people are doing and understand the inherent meaning of present progressive tense.III. Teaching difficult points:1. Lead students to explore the characteristics of the people in the listening material and have a deep understanding of it.2. Encourage students to use what they’ve learned in their conversations and guide them to show their ideas bravely and confidently.IV. Teaching method:Task-based language teaching method and communicative approach.V. Teaching aids:Recording and multi-media computer.VI. Teaching procedure:Step I. Warm up: let’s singShowing a video of a song about weather, the teacher asks students to sing and clap hands together with the video. This can help arouse students’ interest in learning. After singing, the teacher invites several students to answer what the video is about. Step II. Lead in: a phone call with Alice The teacher leads in the situation of meeting a good friend in Duqiao. Show students a phone call. Students need to listen carefully and answer how it is going with Alice and how the weather is in Duqiao. Motivate students to find more information in the phone call.Step III. Let’s talk Encourage students to talk about the weather in Duqiao and the activities the people in Duqiao like doing. With the help of the pictures, the new words and expressions about weather and activities are presented. Make sure that students can know how to read them clearly.Students need to show their answers by asking and answering the questions below. -How’s the weather? -It’s... -What is he/she doing?/What are they doing? -He/She is doing.../They are doing...Step IV. Before listening: let’s guessBefore listening, the teacher shows the two pictures of Mary and Eric and asks students to guess what they are talking about. Encourage them to guess bravely according to the pictures. Step V. While listening 1. Students listen to the recording for the first time and answer the three questions: (1) How’s it going with Eric? (2) How’s it going with Mary? (3) Why is she calling Eric? The teacher can remind students to take notes with short forms. For example, they can just write “go” for “good”. When they finish, the teacher asks several students to check answers. Praise those who have done a good job.Listen again and complete the chart.Play the recording for the second time. Students should listen carefully for the key information and fill in the chart below. How’s it going?What is he/she doing?How’s the weather?Mary Eric After students finish, the teacher invites some of them to check answers. They can show their answers by asking and answering in pairs, which can enhance their speaking ability.Step V. After listeningLet’s thinkLead students to summarize and find out the topics Mary and Eric are talking about with the help of the chart. Guide them to guess what they might talk about, which can help them to have a better understanding of the conversation. 2. Listen and imitateThe teacher leads students to listen and imitate. Remind students to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation. Invite some students to try to imitate and read with the correct tone and emotion.3. Let’s exploreThe teacher raises some questions for students to think. Lead them to analyze the characteristics of the people in the conversation. Guide students to find the speaking strategies of using follow-up questions and giving proper responses. Encourage them to use the strategies in their conversation.Step VI. Let’s role-playMotivate students to work in pairs and role-play conversations with your friends in different places. Their conversations should include greeting, weather and activities.
