    What is “Humr”? Des any ne f yu knw anything abut humr? Lk at the screen and read the definitin f Humr frm the Internet.
    Humr (humur in British English) is the ability r quality f peple, bjects r situatins t invke feelings f amusement in ther peple. The term encmpasses any frm f entertainment r human cmmunicatin which invkes such feelings, r which makes peple laugh r feel happy.

    Humr is particular t each culture. Fr example, the British laugh at things that are ridiculus and enjy pardy very much. Chinese humr includes puns, extended crss talk between tw cmedians etc. The British als enjys play n wrds(like puns) but they are mre like shrt jkes.

    2. Pre-reading by telling the truth —What d yu like t laugh at?
    I like t laugh at cartns, fr they’re lvely and fun.
    I like t laugh at fairy tales. They are amusing and interesting.
    Althugh we have different sense f humr, it seems that the humr that all cultures enjy is nn-verbal humr. We all laugh at the antics f Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Bean. It is gd that we can all laugh at smething tgether!
    Many years ag there lived an Emperr wh was s exceedingly fnd f fine new clthes that he spent vast sums f mney n dress. T him clthes meant mre than anything else in the wrld. He tk n interest in his army, nr did he care t g t the theatre, r t drive abut in his state cach, unless it was t display his new clthes. He had different rbes fr every single hur f the day.
    3. Reading alud t the recrding
    Reading alud t the recrding f the text imprves ur literacy skills -- reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Nw please listen and read alud t the recrding f the text A MASTER OF NONVERBAL HUMOUR. Pay attentin t the prnunciatin f each wrd and the pauses between the thught grups.
    Reading and underlining
    A really useful way t help us with ur listening is t becme aware f ‘thught grups’ .
    When we speak, we need t divide speech up int small 'chunks' t help the listener understand messages. These chunks r thught grups are grups f wrds which g tgether t express an idea r thught. In English, we use pauses and lw pitch t mark the end f thught grups.
    Next yu are t read the text, dividing the text int thught grups and circling all the useful expressins r cllcatins in the passage. Cpy them int yur ntebk after schl as hmewrk.
    Reading t identify the tpic sentence f each paragraph
    Skim the text and identify the tpic sentence f each paragraph. Yu may find it either at the beginning, the middle r the end f the paragraph.
    Clsing dwn by reading and transferring infrmatin
    Read the text again t cmplete the table.

    单元话题和结构

    The Gld Rush (1925) is the quintessential Chaplin/Little Tramp film, with a balance f slapstick cmedy and pantmime, scial satire, and emtinal and dramatic mments f tenderness. It was Chaplin's wn persnal favrite film, shwing the classic Tramp character as a rmantic idealist and lne gld prspectr at the turn f the century, with his cane, derby, distinctive walk, tight shabby suit, and mustache.
    During the Great Gld Rush t Alaska, men in thusands came frm all parts f the wrld. Many f them were ignrant f the hardships befre them - The intense cld, the lack f fd and a jurney thrugh regins f ice and snw were the prblems that awaited them.
    Classic scenes include the starvatin scene f tw cabin-marned prspectrs biling and fastidiusly eating a stewed she, the teetering cabin n the edge f a cliff, and Chaplin's lnely fantasized New Year's Eve party when he waits fr a girl wh never cmes.
    Facts abut Oscar
    The Academy Awards, mstly knwn as Oscar, is the main natinal film award in the United States f America. Each Oscar statuette, manufactured in Chicag, is made frm cpper and nickel silver, and finally, is cvered with 24-karat gld. It depicts a knight, hlding a crusader’s swrd, standing n a reel f film. The five spkes f the film reel signify the five riginal branches f the Academy: actrs, directrs, prducers, technicians and writers. Althugh financially an Oscar statuette is nt really valuable, its mral values are inestimable.
    The traditin f the Academy Awards dates back 71 years, when the first talking mvies had just begun.

    Charlie Chaplin, brn in Walwrth, Lndn, England n April 26th, 1889, began his fficial acting career at the age f eight. He is cnsidered t be ne f the mst pivtal stars f the early days f Hllywd and is mst recgnized as an icn f the silent film era, ften assciated with his ppular "Little Tramp" character; the man with the tthbrush mustache, bwler hat, bamb cane, and a funny walk.
    In 1972 he was hnred with an Academy Award fr his "incalculable effect in making mtin pictures the art frm f the century.
    Charlie Chaplin was cnsidered ne f the greatest filmmakers in the histry f American cinema, whse mvies were and still are ppular thrughut the wrld, and have even gained ntriety as time prgresses. His films shw, thrugh the Little Tramp's psitive utlk n life in a wrld full f chas, that the human spirit has and always will remain the same.

    Charlie Chaplin (April 16, 1889 - December 25, 1977)
    Charlie Chaplin, wh brught laughter t millins wrldwide as the silent “Little Tramp” clwn, had the type f deprived childhd that ne wuld expect t find in a Dickens nvel. Brn in East Street, Walwrth, Lndn n 16 April, 1889, Charles Spencer Chaplin was the sn f a music hall singer and his wife. Charlie Chaplin's parents divrced early in his life, with his father prviding little t n supprt, either financial r therwise, leaving his mther t supprt them as best she culd. Chaplin's mther Hannah was the brightest spt in Charlie's childhd; frmerly an actr n stage, she had lst her ability t perfrm, and managed t earn a subsistence living fr herself, Charlie, and Charlie's lder half-brther Sidney by sewing. She was an integral part f Charlie's yung life, and he credited her with much f his success. Sadly, she slwly succumbed t mental illness, and by the time that Charlie was 7 years ld, she was cnfined t an asylum; Charlie and Sidney were relegated t a wrkhuse (a gvernment facility fr rphaned and abandned children) -- nt fr the last time. After 2 mnths, she was released, and the family was happily reunited, fr a time. In later years, she was readmitted fr an 8-mnth stretch later, during which time Charlie lived with his alchlic father and stepmther, in a strained envirnment.
