“My ocean is my life.”These are the powerful words of Andre Miller, a marine
(海洋的) scientist. He is also the owner of a dive shop that attaches great importance to the exploration and conservation of his hometown’s waters.
As a young child, Andre would be fascinated by tales of the sea told by his dad
who was a fisherman. When he was six years old, his mum gave him his first equipment of diving. Then, Andre spent his time diving. Andre interned (实习) at a
dive shop. With this training, the young diver was able to see new depths. But
unfortunately, he saw much damage.
After finishing his studies in marine biology, Andre got to work as a member of
the Coastal Zone Management Unit. It was here that once again he was horrified by the rapid decline of the numbers of sea creatures and the negative effects of poor
boating practices which caused havoc to the island's coral(珊瑚). Therefore, the first
mission of Andre’ s team was to repair destroyed reefs and save coral. And they have been very successful in their efforts.
One of Andre’s perfect moments was his role in the creation of the Carlisle Bay
Marine Park. The park has now become the premier dive site in his hometown. Andre describes it as “the best textbook example of how marine parks can benefit the islands”.
In 2016, Andre further promised his support of the conservation of Carlisle Bay
through his work with other projects. Through their work, Andre ‘s hometown has seen an increase in underwater clean-ups, which has made marine life increase
greatly. Andre's contagious (有感染力的) passion for marine conservation doesn’t
end here. He is always searching for more. Andre Miller is a man on a mission.
24.What made Andre interested in marine life when he was young?

When Israel’s Beresheet spacecraft launched toward the moon last week, it was carrying a time capsule. The little lunar probe carries a 30-million-page archive (档案馆) of human knowledge etched into a DVD-size metal disc.
The Lunar Library, as the archive is known, is considered a “civilization backup” to help ensure that our future generations never lose humanity’s collective wisdom, according to Spivack, co-founder of Arch Mission Foundation.
“One primary challenge that we face is amnesia (健忘症) about our past
mistakes, and the lack of active countermeasures to repeating them,” Spivack said. “For the survival of our species, we need to ensure it is shared with the people of the future.”
One small part of the archive is a collection of songs, children’s drawings and
writings about Israeli culture and history. But the rest is truly encyclopedic. Included in the Lunar Library are Wikipedia, fiction and nonfiction books, textbooks and so on. All of that information is etched onto 25 disks.
All of that content will mean nothing if the physical object doesn’t survive, so
the Arch Foundation helped develop a super-durable data-recording technology
called Nanofiche for the Lunar Library disc. “It can stand up well to sustained heat that is 10 times greater than what is experienced on the moon with no damage to the data,” Spivack said of the disc, which is made of nickel because of its extreme durability and modest cost.
“We want the archive to last longer than the moon itself,” Spivack said. “If we
place enough copies in enough places, some will make it into the distant future, no matter what happens on Earth, the moon, Mars or any other location.”
28.Why is the Lunar Library launched?
A. To display scientific progress. B. To preserve human civilization.
C. To record humans’ past mistakes. D. To encourage reading on the moon.
29.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. The Lunar Library disc. B. Nanofiche.
C. The Arch Foundation. D. Nickel.
30.What can we learn about the DVD-size disc from the text?
A.It stores an archive of human knowledge.
B.It mainly covers Israeli culture and history.
C.It is made of expensive but lasting materials.
D.It resists heat 10 times greater than it does on the earth.
31..What can be the best title for the text?
A.A DVD-size Disc to Survive Longer
B.Israel’s Beresheet Spacecraft Launched
C.More Lunar Libraries Set up on the Moon
D.30-million Page Library Heading to the Moon
D
In recent years computer scientists have come up with several different ways of creating false videos of people using Artificial Intelligence (AI). These videos are usually called “deepfakes”. Some deepfakes work by putting the face of one person onto a different person in a video. Others work by taking an existing video of a
person and changing it so that the person says or does something they didn't say or
do.
At first, creating deepfakes was complex. It required special knowledge, hundreds of pictures of the person who was being faked, and lots of time. Now it's much simpler. There are websites and apps that allow almost anyone to create deepfakes. An app recently came out which allowed users to put their faces into famous movie scenes. The process takes about eight seconds, requires one picture, and can be done on a mobile phone. One group of computer scientists created a program that allowed them to edit the words coming out of someone's mouth in a video just like you might edit a document on the computer.
It's one thing to swap the faces of famous actors. But what happens if someone
puts out a fake video of a politician, for example, making it look like they broke the law? There's also the problem of the time it takes to figure out that something is fake. Even if a video is proven to be fake, it could be too late. Millions of people might have already seen and believed it. On the other hand, what happens if a video is actually real, but people don't trust it because they're told it's a deepfake?
Many deepfakes are so good that only another AI system can tell that they're
fake. Experts are working hard to create new AI tools that can identify faked videos.
Many people are confident that people can defeat deepfakes soon. However, personally, it is very challenging because this technology has always fallen behind the deepfakes.
32.What can be learnt about deepfakes?
A. They are all made by apps. B. They are improving rapidly.
C. They are mainly used to joke. D. They'll lose popularity soon.
33.What does paragraph 3 focus on about deepfakes?
A. The anxieties raised by them. B. The results caused by them.
C. The ways of making them. D. The doubts about them.
34.What is the author's attitude to developing AI tools to recognize deepfakes?
A. Optimistic. B. Indifferent. C. Disapproving. D. Uncertain.
35.What is the purpose of the text?
A. To recommend new AI tools. B. To explain the importance of AI.
C. To describe a technology trend. D. To stress technology revolutions.

September 23 marks the start of a new season. ____36____ In Great Britain, the third season of the year usually has only one name: autumn. But if you travel across the Atlantic, you’ll find that people use both fall and autumn interchangeably when referring to this time of year, making it the only season in the English language with two widely accepted names. ____37____
According to Dictionary.com, fall isn’t a modern name that followed the more
traditional autumn. The two terms are actually first recorded within a few hundred years, with the term fall being used even a bit earlier.
____38____ The word is of Germanic origin and meant “picking” or
“collecting”, a nod to the act of gathering and preserving crops in the field before winter. In the 1500s, English speakers began referring to the season separating the hot and cold months as either the fall of the leaf or the spring of the leaf, or fall and spring for short. ____39____ By the end of the 1600s, autumn, from the French word “automne” and the Latin “autumnus”, had overtaken fall as the standard British term for the third season.
Around the same time England adopted autumn, the first-ever British American
colonists (殖民者) were voyaging to North America. ____40____ While the former fell out of fashion overseas, it established itself in the local vocabulary by the time America won its independence. Today, using both words to describe the season before winter is still a unique American behavior.
A.The Americans prefer using fall to using autumn.
B.With them they brought the words fall and autumn.
C.So what is it about the season that makes it so special?
D.But for some reason, only spring had staying power in Britain.
E.It is time to gather apples, rice and other things for the farmers.
F.However, what exactly you should call that season depends on where you are.
G.Before either word appeared, the season between summer and winter was known as harvest.

“Ugh, chicken rolls again? I hate chicken rolls!” Matt yelled. “I’m not eating this.” Matt’s mom and dad looked at each other. Matt’s outbursts had been happening at least once a week all summer long.
“You know what, Matt? We're going to let you take over dinnertime from now
on. You can pick the meals and cook them, as long as they’re healthy,” Mom said.
“Good, we’re going to eat good food every night!” Matt answered.
The next day, Dad sat down with Matt to make the meal plan so he could go grocery shopping. Matt had already been thinking about his favorite dinners. “We’re
going to have beef tonight, and spaghetti tomorrow, and macaroni (通心粉) and
cheese the next day,” Matt started.
“Woah, hold on now,” Dad said. “What else are we going to have with the beef?
We need to have at least one vegetable with each meal, and usually we have another side to go with it.”
“Oh, yeah. Um, we can have corn with the beef,” Matt said.
“Sophia does not like corn,” said Dad.
“Well, it’s my choice, so I’m going to make corn,” Matt replied.
“OK, but she might complain at dinner tonight. Are you ready for that?” Dad asked.
“Yeah, whatever,” Matt answered.
Matt and his dad spent the next hour figuring out the whole week’s meals and side dishes. It was a lot more work than Matt expected, and almost every time he picked something out, his dad would tell him that someone in the family wouldn’t like it. It was very frustrating. “This is impossible!” Matt said.
“Yes, it is hard. Your mother and I try very hard to make everyone happy, but
everyone has different tastes, and sometimes, we just can’t please everyone.”
“Fine, we’ll have to just go with this plan this week. Next week I’ll try to make everyone happy,” replied Matt.

The Lunar Library,as the archive is known,is considered a "civilization backup" to help ensure that our future generations never lose humanity's collective wisdom(月球图书馆被称为"文明备份",以帮助确保我们的后代永远不会失去人类的集体智慧)可知,启动月球图书馆是为了保护人类文明。故选B。
29.
All of that content will mean nothing if the physical object doesn't survive,so the Arch Foundation helped develop a super-durable data-recording technology called Nanofiche for the Lunar Library disc. "It can stand up well to sustained heat that is 10 times greater than what is experienced on the moon with no damage to the data(如果物理物体不能存活下来,所有这些内容都将毫无意义,因此,Arch基金会帮助开发了一种超级耐用的数据记录技术,称为Nanofiche,用于月球图书馆光盘。它能很好地经受住持续的热量,这种热量是月球上经历的热量的10倍,而不会对数据造成损害)可知这里it指代"月球图书馆光盘。"。故选A。
One small part of the archive is a collection of songs, children's drawings and writings about Israeli culture and history. But the rest is truly encyclopedic.Included in the Lunar Library are Wikipedia, fiction and nonfiction books, textbooks and so on.All of that information is etched onto 25 disks.(档案的一小部分是关于以色列文化和历史的歌曲、儿童绘画和著作的收藏。 故选A。
When Israel's Beresheet spacecraft launched toward the moon last week,it was carrying a time capsule. The little lunar probe carries a 30-million-page archive (档案馆) of human knowledge etched into a DVD-size metal disc.(上周,当以色列的贝雷希特太空船向月球发射时,它携带着一个时间胶囊。 30-million Page Library Heading to the Moon(3000万页图书馆前往月球)是最好的标题。
The process lakes about eight seconds, requires one picture, and can be done on a mobile phone."(起初,换脸很复杂。
33.A. It's one thing to swap the faces of famous actors. But what happens if someone puts out a fake video of a politician, for example, making it look like they broke the law? There's also the problem of the time it takes to figure out that something is fake.Even if a video is proven to be fake,it could be too late.Millions of people might have already seen and believed it.On the other hand, what happens if a video is actually real, but people don't trust it because they're told it's a deepfake?"(交换著名演员的面孔是一回事。 故选A项。
34.D. Experts are working hard to create new AI tools that can identify faked videos. Many people are confident that people can defeat deepfakes soon. However, personally,it is very challenging because this technology has always fallen behind the deepfakes."(专家们正在努力创造新的人工智能工具来识别伪造的视频。 A.Optimistic乐观的;B.Supportive支持的;C.Disapproving不赞成的;D.Uncertain不确定的。故选D项。

____38____ The word is of Germanic origin and meant “picking” or “collecting”, a nod to the act of gathering and preserving crops in the field before winter.
Around the same time England adopted autumn, the first-ever British American colonists (殖民者) were voyaging to North America.
In Great Britain, the third season of the year ually has only one name:autumn. But if you travel across the Atlantic, you'll find that people use both fall and autumn interchangeably when referring to this time of year, making it the only season in the English language with two widely accepted names." However, what exacly you should call that season depends on where you are."
根据空格前句的"you'll find that people use both fall and autumn interchangeably when referring to this time of year, making it the only season in the English language with two widely accepted names"(你会发现当人们谈到这个时间的时候,人们交替使用fall和autumn,使这个季节成为唯一的一个有两个广泛接受的名字的一个) ,这个季节与众不同,接下来势必会解释原因,因此提出一个问题"C.So what is it about the season that makes it so special?"
The word is of Germanic origin and meant" picking" or"collecting",a nod to the act of gathering and preserving crops in the field before winter" (这个词来源于德语,意味着"捡起"和"收集",一种在冬季来临前收集并保存庄稼的行为。) Before either word appeared, the season between summer and winter was known as harvest" (在这两个词的任意一个出现之前,这段时期被人们称为收获。) "与下文逻辑一致,故选G。
39.D.推理判断题。根据空格前句"English speakers began referring to the season separating the hot and cold months as either the fall of the leaf or the spring of the leaf,or fall and spring for short." But for some reason, only spring had staying power in Britain."(但是出于某些原因,只有春天这个词仍然在英国保持强势地位。)
前文已经讲了fall在British的使用,本段第一句指明了英格兰又接受了autumn,根据the first-ever Brtish American colonists were voyaging to North America." (第一代的英裔美籍殖民者们航行去北美。)可知,后句的内容与他们有关,那么只有B选项的"With them they brought the words fall and autumn." (他们带来了单词fall和autumn),与上下文逻辑一致,故选B。
【点评】关于选句填空的做题步骤:
步骤一:快速浏览一遍备选答案,先确定哪个选项适合放在文章的什么位置。通常在以下位置:标题,句首,句中,句尾。不同位置的句子有不同的特征。
