When school started on that warm August day, I threw myself into everything 1 did, including playing volleyball.
1 decided to become beautiful, or at the very least, skinny. I stopped eating completely. Soon 1 began losing weight, which thrilled me, and I even grew to love the tiredness and lightheadedness that came with my poor diet, for those feelings meant that I was winning.
As the season progressed, things had become tense between my head volleyball coach, Coach Smith, and me.
She felt that something was wrong with my health. She talked with me about my eating and was angry that I wouldn't listen to her when she tried to make me eat. I was angry and hurt and she was suspicious and worried. We fought constantly. Then my malnourishment (营养不良) started to affect my performance. I was so tired that practice and games were becoming a struggle. One afternoon, with hurt in her eyes, Coach Smith asked me what I had eaten and I told her nothing yet. She looked at me, disappointment in her eyes, knowing she couldn't make me stop, and Walked away.
A couple of weeks later I attended the volleyball dinner for our volleyball team. I stood there as my coach managed to say something nice about me. I realized then that I had ruined my senior year by being disrespectful, and I had probably mined hers as well. So that evening I wrote her a letter apologizing and thanking her.
Then one Saturday, as 1 was reading in the library, I felt someone gently take my arm and say softly, "Lynn Jones, how are you doing?" I looked up and saw the familiar face. "Thanks for the letter," she said. "It meant a lot."
When I think of a coach, l think of someone above me, someone who gives instruction -- not a friend. But Coach Smith is different, and, like any other good friend, she dealt with my problem in a determined way even when I hated her for it at that time. I didn't deserve her kindness, but she gave it anyway. I will forever be grateful for her help, and now for her friendship.
    24. How did the author feel when she ate a poor diet and had a sense of tiredness?
    A. stupid B. proud C. funny D. nervous
    25. The author fought with Coach Smith because she .
    A. refused to go on a diet B. caused her team to lose
    C. changed the training schedule D. refused to eat properly
    26. Why did the author write a letter to Coach Smith?
    A. She felt sorry for eating too little food.
    B. She decided to improve her performance.
    C. She was grateful for Coach Smith's concern for her health.
    D. She wanted to build a close relationship with Coach Smith.
27.What is the best title for the text?
    A. Unexpected Friendship B. A Fight with My Coach
    C. A Strict Volleyball Coach D. My Way of Losing Weight
    C
It is a great, big, wide-open sky over our heads, but when you are flying in a jet airliner at 600 miles an hour, the sky is not so big. That's part of the reason why, in the first four months of this year, the government said only 72 percent of all flights arrived on time, the lowest number since the recent system of reporting began in 1995.
The runways are full, the planes are jammed, and air traffic controllers complain they're stressed out. And the radar systems that keep things going are, in large part, technology of the 1960s. "It's like driving down the road with a paper bag over your head, and you're trying to stay out of the way of other cars," says Captain Karen Lee, a 747 pilot who heads operations for UPS, the delivery service.
At its center in Louisville, UPS is experimenting with the next generation in air traffic control: planes guided by the satellites of the Global Positioning System, instead of radar.
Though it has advanced greatly over the years, radar is a technology that dates back to the second World War . It scans the sky, looking for signals from planes in the air. Typically, air traffic radar only updates a plane's position once every 12 seconds or so--and in 12 seconds, a jet can move two miles or make a turn. What's more, radar signals can be blocked by storms or mountains. But with GPS signals, pilots can see in real time exactly where they are, and where other planes are, too. A readout screen in the cockpit ( 驾驶舱) tells the pilots what's around them.
"What we end up with is a very exact location for each aircraft in the system," said Basil Barimo of the Air Transport Association, which represents airlines.
28.According to the passage, we know that .
A.the sky over our heads is becoming smaller B.the condition of air traffic is terrible now
C.the service of air companies is quite bad D.fewer and fewer planes are in the sky
29.The planes are jammed, mainly because .
A.the number of planes is increasing too fast
B.the control system hasn't kept up with the development of air traffic
C.there is not enough room for so many planes in the sky
D.the weather has become worse these years
30.What kind of air control system will be used instead of radar?
A.The Global Positioning System. B.A more advanced radar system.
C.A new unusual satellite. D.A readout screen in the cockpit.
31.Which of the following is a disadvantage of the radar system?
A .It can only update a plane’s position once every 12 minutes.
B.Its signals may not be received because of certain reasons.
C.The cost of radar is higher than the cost of the Global Positioning System.
D.Nothing can be done to improve the air traffic condition

China's livestreaming e-commerce industry has witnessed explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, thus creating new growth opportunities for a wide range of businesses.
Cao lei, director of the E-Commerce Research Center at the Internet Economy Institute, said that while most e-commerce platforms have now hit bottlenecks in finding new customers, livestreaming provides an important channel for them to tap into customers living in fourth and fifth-tier cities as well as rural areas.“What's more, livestreaming allows hosts to answer call-in questions from digital audiences in real time, which will improve shopping experiences and attract more netizens to shop online," Cao added.

    Text 5
W: Your exam is over, isn’t it? Why aren’t you more relaxed?
M: Oh, I don’t know. It isn’t that the questions were too hard, but I always feel uneasy when the exam doesn’t seem to have much to do with the book. (5)
    Text 6
M: Welcome to the German Bakery. How can I help you?

M: These are the same forms I filled out last week. Do I have to fill them all out again?
W: You can just put your name and ID number on the top, (12) and we’ll get the rest of the information from our computer.
    M: OK, thanks.
    Text 9
M: Excuse me. I wonder if you could help me.
W: What can I do for you?
M: Well, I’ve been working on a paper these days. I found a few books I need at the main library, but I was told that the library here at the graduate school has even more information. (13)
W: Yes. We have a large number of journals. We also have quite a few newspapers and videos.
M: I think some journals are enough. How can I find out which journals you have? (14)
W: I can give you a list of all of them. But if you want to search by author or by subject, you can use one of the computers over there in the corner. (15) You can also search for all outside books just by typing your request into the computer.
M: You mean you can get books from other universities?
W: Not only from other universities, but from almost any public or private library in the United States. The only problem is that outside books cannot be checked out. (16)
    Text 10
    memorial service: 追悼会
I cry whenever I think of a memorial service I attended in Iraq.
    每当我想起在伊拉克出席的一次追悼会,我都会忍不住落泪。
    请在那家咖啡店前靠边停车!
Hello, and welcome to today’s BBC evening news radio. Our top story is a sad one. Sparky, the famous fire department dog, died today in the line of duty. Sparky and his human partner Joel were walking down Maple Street when they spotted a building on fire. Joel and Sparky ran to the building to help. Joel heard the cries of a woman inside the building, (17) so he ran inside to save her. Sparky followed Joel into the building. Joel could hear the woman crying, but he couldn’t find her because of all the smoke from the fire. (18) It was Sparky who was finally able to find the woman. Sparky led Joel and the woman out, (20)but Sparky suddenly ran back into the building. The fire was too hot for Joel to go back inside, (19) and he shouted at Sparky to come back. A few moments later, Sparky came out of the building pulling something behind him. It was a baby.(20)Sparky was able to save the baby’s life, but the furry hero died from serious injuries just after coming out of the burning building. The whole neighborhood is expected to come to Sparky’s memorial service to be held tomorrow morning.
