This is, unfortunately, a common situation in life when interacting with others. I know it can be difficult and awkward to take the initiative in talking with others. But, in life, it is often up to us to make the first move if we want to improve our relationships with others. What I suggest is this: Start with simple, small conversations when you see the right moment. Try to look for similarities you have in common and offer your opinion on how you relate. Knowing how to “break the ice” in this way is an essential social and life skill that is sure to help you in the years to come.If you have further trouble, don’t hesitate to write to me.                                                       Best wishes,                                                       Li Hua  听力原文Text 1W: What’s your dream job?M: From junior high school days, I knew how to make things taste good and I am really good at it. So I think that’s what I’d like to do when I graduate.Text 2W: Have you ever seen the movie Nezha? I’m going to see it this weekend.M: No, not yet. Who are you going with?W: With Amy. You can come with us if you want to.M: I’d like to, but I have a few things to do on the weekend.Text 3M: Excuse me, I think you charged me too much for the tea. W: Oh, let me see. Sorry, it’s correct.M: But tea is only $1.25.W: You are right. Tea is $1.25, but you drank two.Text 4W: Excuse me, can you tell me the way to the nearest bank please?M: Yes. Go along this street and turn right. The bank is on the left, opposite a school.W: Turn right and it’s on the left. Thank you!M: You’re welcome!Text 5M: What do you recommend to me to ease my flu?W: Try making a combination of honey, lemon, and a little cinnamon, and heat it slightly. A few spoons of this will help you feel better.M: Ah, that sounds helpful! I should try it. Thank you for your tip!Text 6W: Hi, Johnny! Where are you going?M: Hi, Dorothy! Im going to the cinema.W: Oh, really? With whom? Your girlfriend? Anyone in your class?M: Hey, Dorothy. I don’t have a girlfriend. Don’t upset me. I go alone.W: Oh! Sorry! I didn’t know that. That’s too bad. I’ll go with you.M: No, thanks. Just leave me alone.W: Hmm... Okay. Have a good time, Johnny.M: Thanks. See you tomorrow at school.Text 7W: Hey, Jude. What are you doing here?M: Oh, thank goodness you’re here. I need your help.W: What’s the problem?M: Well, I have to give a presentation in class tomorrow morning and I really need to practise it beforehand.W: So, you need someone to help you give it a try?M: Bingo! Do you have time to help me out?W: No problem. When do you want to practice?M: Right away.Text 8W: How was your trip?M: It was really fun, but I don’t think the family that I visited will invite me back.W: Why not?M: Well, I guess I asked some embarrassing questions while I was visiting.W: What do you mean? What did you ask?M: I asked the father how much his car cost. And I asked the mother how much money she made in her job.W: Oh, yeah. That’s considered to be personal information.M: I know. Im not sure why I asked those questions. I guess I was just nervous.W: Why don’t you send them an email and explain that you didn’t mean to ask inappropriate questions, but that you were nervous? And thank them for letting you stay with them.M: That’s a good idea. At least it will make me feel better.Text 9W: When studying English, don’t you think an electronic dictionary is necessary?M: I can’t agree more. So I bought one last Sunday.W: Really? It is considerably expensive.M: Will you buy one, too?W: Yes, I will. I went to a department store last Saturday. But I didnt buy one, because it was too expensive for me.M: A department store? Everything is expensive there.W: Well, where should I go and buy one then?M: I bought mine at the Young Electronic Mall. That place offers low priced goods, and has various sorts of electronic dictionaries to choose from.W: Well, then I could make a careful comparison of them and see which one is better. How about going shopping with me at the Young Electronic Mall?M: Of course, I will!Text 10W: The United Nations says over 250 million children of primary school age cannot read, write or do basic maths. 120 million children have spent little or no time on school. Countries are poorer when children do not go to school. Each year, countries lose up to $130 billion. The UN says there is a global “learning crisis”. In one-third of countries, 75% of primary school teachers do not have enough training. The UN says it is important “to focus on quality”.Most children not going to school are girls. Countries get richer if girls go to school up to 25% richer in 40 years. Almost two thirds of girls in Arab countries and parts of Africa may never go to school. In Yemen, just 36% of girls can read and write. Reuters says poorer girls in developing countries won’t be able to read or write until 2072. The good news is that in Laos, Rwanda and Vietnam, the number of children not going to school has fallen by 85% in the last five years.
