The first part is language knowledge detection, including two activities. Activity 1 Focus on the use of freeze, arise, astonish, proceed.Activity 2 is a completion dialogue exercise, which revolves around a discussion of the novel Anne of Green Gables.The second part is unit content evaluation and self-reflection. The third part is the project activity, the theme of the activity is "preparing for a long journey".

Learn about the novel Anne of Green Gables .

Anne of Green Gables was written by L.M.Montgomery.In 1908, she published the novel, which became an international hit.

   Anne of Green Gables is about an orphan girl named Anne Shirley who is sent to live with an elderly brother and sister, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, on Prince Edward Island. Through the novel we see her adventures as she grows up to be a young lady, eventually going to a university very much like Dalhousie, and then becoming a teacher.

Complete the conversation with the correct forms of the words in brackets.

Mr Clark:Morning,everyone!Did you finish reading the novel over the weekend? Did you note down anything that impressed you? Nancy. Would you like to say something?

Nancy: Yes. Mr Clark. I’m halfway through the story. I think Matthew and Marilla are very_______(interest)

•what difficulties you might face.

•what you enjoy on your journey.

You may use the beginning and ending below to help you in your writing.

...It’s true that it might be a little dangerous hiking in such a place, but to be alone under the open sky will fill me with great peace and allow me to my mind and focus on the positive things in my life. Activity 5 (PPT22-24)

Presentation:

My plan is to go hiking in the Grand Canyon, as I want to see the beautiful scenery there and experience the wonders of one of the largest canyons on earth. Since the Colorado River flows through the canyon, finding water to drink is not an issue. However, many of the paths are quite rocky and narrow with a high cliff on one side, so it can be difficult and dangerous to hike there. Another danger is wild animals such as rattle snakes, mountain lions, scorpions, and skunks. On the other hand, the colours and natural wonders inside the canyon are so beautiful that it makes such a trip worthwhile, and hiking in the canyon would help me learn more about its unique geography, along with its plants and animals.

   It’s true that it might be a little dangerous hiking in such a place, but to be alone under the open sky will fill me with great peace and allow me to clear my mind and focus on the positive things in my life. And to challenge myself with the difficulty seems like a wonderful experience.

   I think we can learn a great deal from travelling.
