People who don’t make mistakes won’t learn anything.
The best 26 to learn something is to make mistakes first. Benjamin Franklin, the American scientist, once said, “I didn’t 27 the test. I just found 100 ways to do it wrong.” Thomas Edison, who invented the light bulb(电灯泡), told his friends, “Of the 200 light bulbs that didn’t work, every failure told me 28 I was able to incorporate(吸收) into the next try.”
Both of them 29 that failure is the stepping stone to success. 30 , a surprising number of everyday objects were created because of a mistake or a misunderstanding. Bread and potato chips are both unexpected inventions. A tired Egyptian man invented bread 31 the dough(生面团) rose during his sleep. And potato chips were first 32 by an American cook when a customer told him that his potatoes weren’t thin enough.
Successful businessmen have 33 made big, expensive mistakes. Once a man, who worked for IBM, made a mistake that cost(花费) the company $600,000. Thomas Watson, the boss, was asked if he would 34 the man to leave his job. “Of course not,” Thomas replied. I have just spent $600,000 training him. I won’t let another company benefit(获益) from his experience.
The 35 thing to remember is that you need to learn from your mistakes. If you don’t, then there is no meaning in making them.
