However, I believe learning that sometimes you lose is just as important. There is a school of thought that if children are playing for fun, they should not keep score, which seems a bit backwards to me. Participation is great, but let’s also give them a goal to reach.Sport has winners and losers, which is an important part of its make-up. I believe the greatest joy you can get from sport is when you play hard and produce a win, when you and your teammates work together for your goal.I am a competitive person, but I don’t think you’re ever too young to start learning that putting effort into something can result in reward. I’m not saying winning should be the be-all and end-all of the experience for children, but it should at least be a choice.Michael Jordan once said. “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”Without learning how it feels to win, and just as importantly how it feels to lose, we will bring up children who expect life to be easy. Life is not easy and I believe the sooner children learn that, the better off they are in the long run. But, there does need to be a balance. There are parents who always want to see their children win and will punish them when they make mistakes.I believe the key is to teach children that they should give their all in an effort to be victorious. It does need to be fun or they won’t be interested, but they should be graceful (优雅的) in failure. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is an example of someone who appears to have gone too far the other way, always in the news for his terrible attitude on court.4Which of the following will the author agree with?AFewer kids play sport nowadays. BIt is participation that matters most.CCompetitive sport is important for kids. DKids often have unrealistic goals in sport.5What does the author want to show by using Jordan’s words?ALife lies in sport. BNothing is impossible.CGreat hopes make great men. DFailure is the mother of success.6What will winning and losing in sport teach children?AThe difficulty of life. BThe role of hard work.CThe power of teamwork. DThe need for dreaming big.7What does the author think of Nick Kyrgios?AHe is not skilled. BHe is not graceful.CHe sets a good example for kids. DHe pays little attention to success.CHave you ever thought that your life will be perfect if something in your outside world changes? You may say, “I will live happily if I find my soul mate.” You may say, “If the perfect job comes along, I will get satisfaction. My problem is that my boss is stupid.” Or you may say, “If I have a child, I will know what it is like to be loved.” The problem is that it is not the outside world that prevents you from experiencing peace, love and joy. Instead, it is your own internal (内部的) patterns that get in your way.To prove this point, at my weekend programs, I had my students look at a flower on my table. Then I asked them to share their experiences. Some showed a state of complete joy because staring at the flower reminded them of their wedding or a great trip with their lovers. Others said the flower made them angry because it reminded them of a gift given by a former partner who turned against them. Some students even told me that the flower reminded them of their beloved grandmothers’ gardens with some shedding tears (流泪)of joy and others shedding tears of sadness. However, the flower was still just a flower. Our internal patterns decide whether each moment is filled with peace, anger, joy, love or sadness. When you don’t realize that it is your own internal state that is creating your experience, you are likely to blame (责备)the external situations in your life. Most people aren’t taught that emotion is a choice. And they aren’t taught how to change those lower emotional patterns such as anger, anxiety, sadness and so on. Next time, when you meet something bad, please look at your internal state. When you accept that you are responsible for your own state, and find the courage to turn inward, you can step out of being a slave to what shows up in your external world.8Why does the author mention the examples in Paragraph 1 ?ATo lead to the topic of this passage.BTo complain about imperfect life.CTo show common problems in life.DTo encourage people to change the outside world.9How does the author prove his opinion?ABy giving examples. BBy doing an experiment.CBy telling a related story. DBy comparing other people’s opinions.10What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?ATo step out of negative emotions.BTo pay attention to our internal world.CTo share our real emotions with others.DTo use different methods to change bad emotions.11What does the author want to express through the passage?AOur external world matters a lot.BOur emotions can affect our health.COur internal patterns truly decide our emotions.DOur experiences have a great influence on our emotions.DFrom airplanes to apartments, most spaces are now designed with sound-absorbing materials that help decrease various sounds of everyday life. But most of the sound-absorbing materials that can cancel out human voices, traffic noise and music are made from plastic foams (泡沫) that aren’t easily recycled or degraded. Now, researchers reporting in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering have created a biodegradable film (薄膜) obtained from seaweed, which effectively absorbs sounds in this range. Controlling and optimizing the way sound moves throughout a room is the key to creating functional spaces. Foam sound-absorbing panels are a common solution, and they come in a variety of materials and thicknesses tailored to specific sound requirements. Most of these foams, however, are made from a type of plastic material and other chemical substances that are obtained from natural oil or petrol. To avoid petrochemicals, researchers have explored more renewable sources and biodegradable sound-absorbing alternatives. But many current options are made from plant fibers that don’t effectively decrease noises in the most useful range of sound frequencies, or they are too thick or difficult to produce. So, Chindam’s team wanted to develop a biodegradable material from a plant, which would be simple to produce and could absorb a range of sounds. The team created films of agar (琼脂), a material that comes from seaweed, along with other additives developed from plants and varied the thickness of the films. After running the materials through a battery of tests, the researchers measured how well the films reduced sound across a range of frequencies. To do this, the team created a sound tube in which a speaker is placed at one end, and the test film is fitted over the other end. Microphones in the middle of the tube measured the amount of sound sent by the speaker and the amount of sound reflected off the film. These experiments showed that the films with many small holes made with the highest concentrations of agar had the greatest sound-absorbing qualities and performed similarly to traditional sound-absorbing foams. The researchers plan to explore ways to change the agar films to give them other desirable properties, such as flame resistance, and will explore other biologically obtained film materials.12What is the disadvantage of plastic foams?AThey take up, too much space. BThey cannot absorb sounds effectively.CThey cannot meet specific sound requirements. DThey have difficulty achieving sustainable use.13What kind of sound-absorbing material would Chindam’s team develop?AOne obtained easily and effectively. BOne produced toughly and tiredly.COne developed from petrochemicals. DOne made from plant fibers.14What is the last paragraph mainly about?AThe purpose of film research. BA series of tests on the new material.CA tool of measuring the film thickness. DThe difficulty of searching the new material.15What can be the best title for the text?AAn Eco-friendly Sound-absorbing Material from SeaweedBPlastic Foams: the Worst Choice of Absorbing SoundsCA Tube for Measuring the Amount of Underwater SoundsDSeaweed: a Better Sound-absorbing Underwater Plant第二节(共5题;每小题2分,满分10分)When people look at mountains, they often feel a desire to climb to the top. It moves me very much and makes me think how true friendship is.Nowadays, the word friendship has been used very often that it has lost its meaning. Some jokingly put it that friends are made to be taken advantage. In my opinion, true friendship doesn’t mean that when you need your friends’ help, you’ll treat them for dinner. Once you have found such true friends, do treasure him. Some citizens think it necessary to forbid setting off fireworks. For one thing, fireworks worsen air pollution and give rise to smog. For another, they often bring about fires, and even cause great loss of property in addition to severe injuries and deaths. However, those who are opposed to banning fireworks think it the Chinese tradition to set off fireworks. It is a way of adding to atmosphere of happiness. Besides, fireworks are not set off every day, so it is absolutely not the major source of environmental problem.Personally speaking, I think it a good idea to ban fireworks for the sake of safety. Anyway, we have many other ways of celebrating the New Year such as having parties. Above all, forbidding fireworks may well let citizens have a peaceful New Year’s Eve.
