Rock and roll(rock ’n’ roll) has its origin in three different traditions of music.Perhaps the largest influence on rock came from the rhythm and blues (R&B) music popular in the southwestern United States during the 1930s and 1940s.Both the rhythm and singing style of R&B artists can be found in modern rock music.
Rock and roll first became popular in 1954,and the first true superstar of rock and roll was,of course,Elvis Presley. With his handsome looks and his controversial dancing style,he captured the imagination and hearts of young people around the world.Although no figures have ever been published,he was surely the most successful solo artist in history.Over his career from 1956 to 1977,he had in all sold more than 170 major hit singles and more than 80 topselling albums.According to the billboard charts(排行榜),he remains the most successful male soloist with nine No.1 singles.
In the early 1960s,rock and roll suffered a brief decline in popularity for two reasons.First,Elvis Presley served in the army and did not record for a while, and second, record companies began to try and make rock music more suitable for all music lovers. Then,in 1962,the Beatles brought rock and roll back to life again and made it louder and more defiant(大胆的) than before.
After the Beatles broke up in 1970,another decline began as rock and roll broke into three popular styles—country rock, folk (which was quieter with more acoustic guitar),and heavy metal. In the mid1970s,disco began to sweep the music industry.Seemingly in reaction to this disco movement, punk rock(朋克摇滚) began in England.Actually, economic and racial problems in England at that time gave rise to punk rock, and the music used loud backing music and violent lyrics.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s,musicians toned down the anger in punk music and developed new wave music.Record labels found this new music highly marketable, and bands such as Blondie and The Clash suddenly came into popularity.New creative ideas in music continue to change rock and roll.

In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity.Others say that competition is bad; that it sets one person against another; that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their selfworth relied on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often lifeanddeath affairs. In their singleminded pursuit (追求) of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which values only the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition.Among the most vocal are youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society.Teaching these young people,I often observe in them a desire to fail. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or achieve success.By not trying, they always have an excuse: “I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't try.” What is not usually admitted by themselves is the belief that if they had really tried and lost, that would mean a lot.
Such a loss would be a measure of their worth.Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's selfrespect relies on how well one performs in comparison with others. Both are afraid of not being valued.Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve (缓解) can we discover a new meaning in competition.

    D.It encourages individual efforts.
根据第一段中的“Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity.” 故选A。]

故填than。]
41.have been exhibited [考查时态和语态。 根据后文“since she set up her company in 2012”可知,应用现在完成时,主语与谓语动词构成被动关系,故用现在完成时的被动语态,主语为Her artworks,助动词用have。故填have been exhibited。]
Every piece of the Miao embroidery,“every+单数名词”作主语,谓语动词应用单数。故填is。]
表示“花费时间做某事”可知短语为take time to do sth.。故填to complete。]
故填which。]

My favorite song is Heal the World, which is written by Micheal Jackson and was first sung by him.
The song shows that our environment has gone from bad to worse and we should take the urgent measures to protect the earth.I like its lyrics very much.I like this song because of its melody and content.
By listening to this song,we can realize what and how we can do about our earth at the present time.
Fifteen years ago,I was born in a big family.I had been taught that money couldn't buy everything ever since I was a little kid.My parents are the most hardworking people I have ever seen.As much as my parents tried to teach me these values, some could only be learned through personal experiences.
As a child,I would sit in the church trying to concentrate on the words of the priest (牧师),but my attention was soon attracted by the shining gold and the diamonds worn by the Saturday church goers. As my eyes began to wander,I noticed men dressed in their tailored suits and shirts accompanied by women in their designer dresses with matching handbags and shoes.
My family,on the other hand, was the opposite of rich. Our handmedown clothes had been washed so many times that the colors had become dull and lifeless.Although this revealed the money struggles of our large family, our faces were always washed and hair neatly combed. When sitting on the old big red and white truck after the service,I pictured the lives led by those driving their brand new cars, wishing I would be one of them.
I never stopped those fantasies, even when I was in middle school.Since it was a private school, most of the children came from wealthy families. As a result,I constantly felt ashamed.Although I could hide my lack of wealth at school by wearing our school uniforms,my poverty was embarrassingly apparent on weekends with my classmates wearing designer jeans and I had no choice but to wear my sister's old jeans.I never fitted in with my classmates. To my relief, there was only one girl named Julie who opened her heart to me.I was attached to her like a shadow.Soon, her birthday was approaching.Julie invited me to attend her birthday party.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式作答。
    However,I grew upset as I couldn't afford a gift.

However,I grew upset as I couldn't afford a gift.It would be embarrassing to be present without gift, but her insistence put me in a dilemma. Finally,I accepted her invitation against my will.I was wondering what to do when the values my parents taught me flashed across my mind.“Why not make a gift by myself?” I made a toy with materials on hand and put it into box. Finally, the big day came.
When she opened the gift box,my heart missed a beat.On seeing the toy,the boys and girls froze with surprise and then burst into laughter.I lowered my head in shame, tears streaming down my cheeks. At this moment,Julie came over and hugged me tightly, saying it was the best gift that she had ever received.I brightened up at her words and was fully aware that money couldn't buy every thing. It was our friendship that really mattered.I would cherish this moment forever.
