设计说明

通过自由会话的方式，引导学生谈论怎样学习英语，很自然地导入新课。然后依据课本，通过设置不同的任务来学习对话，培养学生阅读与交际的能力。指导学生学习课文中出现的知识点，提升解题能力。然后通过训练，实际运用所学知识。

Step 1　Lead-in

Free talk.

1. Show some pictures and talk about the ways to learn English.

2. Get the class to list more good ways to learn English well. And then discuss them.

3. What is an English corner?

An English corner is a small place, where Chinese students and other people practise their English.

Have you ever been to an English corner? Do you like it?

Step 2　Warming up  

Work on Activity 1.

1. Get the class to look at the picture and describe what is happening.

2. Read the three questions to the class and ask the students to discuss the questions in groups.

Step 3　Listening

1. Get the class to read the questions to make sure they know what they are going to listen to.

2. Play the recording for students to choose the correct answers.

Tony: Have you made much progress with your Chinese, Dad?

Dad: Yes, I have. I’ve practised it every day. My level is better than it was last year, even though I haven’t been to classes. But my handwriting still isn’t very good. I’ve still got some work to do on that. And I still find reading Chinese quite difficult.

Tony: Do you think you have to be really smart to be good at a foreign language?

Dad: No, I don’t. Whatever you do, you have to make an effort. I think Chinese is simpler than English, anyway.

Tony: I wish I spoke Chinese as well as you do.

Dad: I think your Chinese is quite good already. I’m really proud of you.

Step 4　Fast reading

1. Listen and read.

Tell students that they are going to listen to a conversation between Betty and Lingling. Play the recording for students to listen to.

2. Read the conversation and decide who might agree with the following sentences. Write B for Betty and L for Lingling.
