I remember, back in my early 20s, I was the youngest in the office while my workmates were at least twice my age. They had children and aging parents to take care of. My only stress was finding the right dress for a Saturday night date. I didn't imagine ever being their age.
But life has a way of racing ahead. In my 40s, when seeing my first gray hair, I couldn't stop staring at it. It took me a while to figure out what that thing was. As any parent will tell you, the easiest way to get gray hair is to have children.
Parenting is a hard job. I now know my husband and I have done a good job. Not only do our young adult sons like to spend time with us, but when we hand them cash, they often say, "No, thank you, I'm good."
When I celebrated my own 50th birthday, I didn't feel" old" or any different from how I had felt in my 40s or 30s, even 20s. Though society had given me the message that being 50 was not something to celebrate, I saw the benefits of getting older.
By the time I was 50, I no longer had to put everyone in front of me. I didn't have to take care of getting dinner on the table for a demanding child or help someone study the French and Indian War. Instead, I could see friends or travel with my husband.
Getting older also came with a new thinking way. I used to concentrate on things I regretted that I had or hadn't done. Now that I've lived many more years, those regrets have disappeared, because now I know that those choices have helped make me who I am today.
Whatever the age, I'll do what I want to. I am still a contributor to society, whether by writing novels or by being there for my friends and family. I plan to keep doing all of that for many years to come.

26. What can be inferred about the author from the passage?
A. She was successful as a mother. B. She regretted more as she aged.

Recently, the topic of “school subject colors” has become a heated debate. Everyone seems to have strong opinions about which colors are associated (关联) with which school subjects, even if they graduated from school a long time ago. People associate school subjects with colors subconsciously (下意识地). There could be lots of reasons for these color associations, but the most common explanation is that they're based on something people learned as a kid. At many schools, kids were asked to use color folders to keep their notes and homework in. Many people got so used to using the same colors over and over again that they still associate those colors with subjects to this day.
Of course, the color of each subject is different depending on the school kids went to and the teachers they had as well as their personal preferences. For that reason, not everyone agrees on colors.
However, a few associations are more widely accepted. For example, science, which nearly everyone thinks is green, does not spark much debate. It includes classes like chemistry, biology, and physics and they are closely related to nature. When people think of nature and the environment, green is a key color because so many things in nature are green.
People could also choose colors based on how the subjects make them feel. For example, if a subject makes them happy and excited, they might call it yellow. However, if a subject makes them angry, they could associate it with red. As for blue, if a subject is fun and relaxing, then it's likely that blue comes to mind first.
There are no right or wrong answers for the school subject debate. While the exact reason varies from person to person, it's a fascinating topic to focus on. It goes to show that just because we see something one way and someone else sees it another way doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just two different viewpoints.
28. Where do most people think their color associations come from?
A. Their personal preferences. B. Their grades of each subject.
C. Their school experience as a kid. D. Their teachers' teaching methods.
29. What does the underlined word "spark" in paragraph 3 most likely mean?
A. Cause. B. Reduce. C. Flash. D. End.
30. Which color will an relaxing subject probably remind people of?
A. Yellow. B. Red. C. Blue. D. Green.
31. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Who Likes Associating Colors to School Subjects B. How People Associate Colors with School Subjects
C. Why People Debate over Associations with Subjects D. What Colours People Associate with Certain Subjects

In 2020, American National Youth Tobacco Survey found that more than 3.6 millon youth had used e-cigarettes. That means e-cigarette use has gone beyond traditional cigarette use in young people.
There are some reasons for that. Many young people are curious to try out some new flavors (味道) in e-cigarettes, like chocolate, lemon and strawberry. In fact, research has shown that the interesting flavors are what lead kids to experiment with e-cigarettes in the first place. Besides, when seeing some friends using them, the youth would probably have a try, too, believing that e-cigarettes are much cooler than traditional cigarettes. Last, they falsely believe me-cigarettes are harmless to their health since no smelly gases are produced in the process.
Many young users do not realize e-cigarettes have dangerously high levels of nicotine (尼古丁), sometimes as much as that of an entire pack of cigarettes, so that they are pretty harmful to their health and highly addictive. There has been a rise of stories in the media about kids who use e-cigarettes developing serious breathing problems. And nicotine may harm their developing brain, as brain development continues through about age 25. Also, nicotine can affect their ability to concentrate, learn and exercise.
Another huge risk is the fact that e-cigarettes blow up, thus causing serious injuries. According to a 2019 study from the U.S. Fire Department, e-cigarettes caused serious injuries to users including breaking their jaws (下巴 ) or knocking out their teeth. Meanwhile, another study found that injuries from e-cigarette use resulted in nearly 2,000 emergency room visits between 2018and 2020.
In the U.S, it is now illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to buy e-cigarettes. What's more, the government now requires e-cigarettes to contain a warning about the addictiveness of nicotine.
32. What is the major reason why teenagers begin to smoke e-cigarettes?
A. They want to copy what their friends have done.
B. They think using e-cigarettes makes them look cooler.
C. They believe e-cigarettes are much safer than cigarettes.
D. They are curious about the inviting flavors of e-cigarettes.
33. According to the passage, what may result in the concentration problem in young people?
A. Nicotine in e-cigarettes. B. Slow brain development.
C. Lack of physical exercise. D. Serious breathing problems.
34. Why does the author mention the two studies in Paragraph 4?
A. To prove his opinion. B. To compare different results.
C. To give detailed information. D. To explain research methods.
35. What is the passage mainly about?
A. E-cigarettes are rather harmful to young people. B. Many young people get addicted to e-cigarettes.
C. People under 21 are forbidden to use e-cigarettes. D. Risk awareness of e-cigarette smoking should be raised.
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. C 35. A
